Alright, I give up. I got ss rope, 3 different sizez. I tried the rope itself, rope with ss mess, rope with cotton, cotton by itself, etc. I tried many different ways for 2 nights. Sometimes I thought I got it but only for couple puffs. Sometimes, it keep saying short. Sometimes, I wanted to smash it and let the dog bite it. I am going back to clearomizer and kanger type with 100% cotton.
Good luck you guys.

I wish I could help you but I'm not sure why it's not working for you like it should.

Give us some more details! What kind of Genny? Which rope did you get? What kind of coil? Dont give up. If we've gotten it to work, you can too

I really struggled with this as well. I got the silica diaper and it was very simple. I'm still struggling with it some and have set it aside til I get the replacement part for my RSST. The diaper makes it really no hassle.

Maybe some one can give a step by step again. I see that some aren't even heating the cable? How is that working?

The mesh topping goes into the wick hole too right? (if possible, of course).
Does it help to soak the wick in favorite juice for a few days prior to installing? (for flavor right off the bat).
I'm going to try my hand at this today. I have 2 gifted cables boiling on the stove as I type. (washed with soap & water first).
Next, I'll paper towel air dry them, then torch them, then install.
I wonder if natural Hemp would work for the collar? I've been wanting to get some for my Igo anyway.
I'm just rambling now. Kind of excited to try this! It will be so much easier to store and stock up with.
Water's done.

My mesh diaper doesnt go into the wick hole. It actually acts as a stopping point so that the wick will only go into the tank a certain distance. Keeps the SS rope from touching the bottom of the tank.

I torched the wick, torched the mesh... then just rolled the mesh onto to the top of the rope. 2 wraps or so of mesh did the trick. If you get it nice and tight, it'll stay put. Wrapped my coil directly around the mesh diaper. I was sure to work on a DRY tank so I could get rid of hotspots. After the coils glow evenly, you're ready to go. The rope wicks really well... no soaking or any of that. Filled the tank, primed the diaper/coil with some fluid to get it rolling... and its been working flawlessly.

Good deal. I will make a topper stopper then. (sounds easier, too), and finish as you did. Thanks!!
Pilot light's lit...

Like Chornbro, I used 3/32 7X7 rope boiled then torched to red hot. Wrapped the 325 mesh around the top for my RSST, dropped in the hole and wrapped ribbon 4/3 for 1.5 ohms. Wickes like a champ with little to no tilting. Believe it or not no hot spots when I pulsed coil on the mesh. Easiest and only build I have succeeded with. Give it a try!!

for 2 nights, I have tried and tried hundreds diff ways that I have read here and youtube. Rewick/recoil many times.
The genesis type is the cobra from fasttech. It's sent with a broken seal but that is another issue. What I tried were:

1- mess itself.
2- 3/32 ss cable 3 strains, with and without mess topping. Also cotton toping.
3- 3/32 ss cable 3 strains, with and without mess topping. Also cotton toping. With 4 strain, it's fit well into the wick hole, but it short bad.
4- primed it with juice.
5- I did it with and without burn/oxidize them.

When execute the botton without the cap, seeing the smoke coming up, there is a lot of smoke most of the time, but after seconds, the coil turn red because juice is gone. If I tilt it or turn it upside down, it'll be ok most of the time, if the wick isn't that tight.
Problems: even seeing vape/smoke produced without the cap, when I suck, there is not that much smoke, nothing compare to my clearomizer. I got rid of the bad taste by oxidize the wick, but it still taste burn more than 50% of the time. I guess this is wicking problem again. Also, hit is so hard. No vape/smoke, but it hit my throat/chest so bad to the point that I afraid to inhale. Just for info, I inhale anything, any kind of flavor :D

Is there anyone in OC SCal have successfully done this willing to help a tutorial?

Thanks

I haven't found the bolt cutters yet, so I'm behind schedule already. The cable won't slide into the hole either, which means I have to unwrap a strand or two too. The flat ribbon wire I bought a few months ago got it's trial run today. Well, not a run yet... I'm still batting zero. I've come to suspect that flat ribbon wire is really an insider's joke, and everyone's getting their jolly's knowing what us new to FRW peeps are going through. Come on guys, admit it.
Hopefully tomorrow will run smoother. Actually, I know it will be smoother once I toss that FRWire and push a duck into the pond.

A joke it is not! These are the best wicks next to ceramic wicks that I have ever tried. Heck of a lot more robust than ceramic, but ceramic is a smoother more flavorful vape. Since ceramic is so fragile I only use it around the house, I use these SS rope wicks everywhere else.

Some suggestions:
  • Use a Dremel tool with a cutoff disc to cut it, the Dremel wont fray the ends.
  • Put a diaper (i.e. a sleeve over the SS Rope) of mesh, or silica, or ceramic sleeve above the top deck, I actually go all the way into, but not through, the wickhole. Then wrap your coil over the sleeve.
  • If using mesh, pre-oxide it like a rolled mesh wick, or if you are experienced use the pulsing method. Bottom line you still have get an oxidation layer under the coil with mesh or bare SS Rope.
  • If using mesh, dont let the rope wick touch the bottom of the juice tank, unless you have an RSST or AC9.
  • Try the Peter K method of building your coil.
  • Try a size smaller than what you think you need, a loose wick works better for me anyway, plus you will get less heatsink effect.
  • Be persistent, once you "get it" it will become easy and will be worth the learning curve.

Edit: Oh and I only use flat ribbon wire exclusively now, it makes a much better coil, just watch your resistance, you might need one less wrap to get the same resistance you are used to.

This is the BEST advice & will get every ss wire wick working in your choice of device.:toast:mikepetro

Indefinitely. The SS rope isn't going anywhere, the ceramic under the coil can withstand 1500+ degress so I use the coil to burn it clean.

I don't really know how long it would last before I "had" to replace it but I see no reason why it wouldn't last for months and months and months, or even years, with proper care (ie. periodic cleaning)

Yup, months should not be a stretch. I haven't gotten my SS rope yet, but I use thin SS mesh wicks #325 about 15-20mm. Burn them clean once a day and I have many that are more than 6 months old and a few OCE a year old and still going strong. :)

I couldn't have said it better myself. Great advice!
