Got myself a SVD for Christmas to replace my faithful Lavatube that was about 18 months old. The SVD was working fine until a couple of days ago. It's started to turn itself off. It doesn't matter if I'm using a carto or a tank, it will shut off. Nothing is over tightened. Any ideas on what's going on?

Edit: sometimes it just won't fire, and it hasn't turned itself off.

Mine does that sometimes while I'm pressing the button. Kinda like I'm not pressing hard enough and it engages 3 times super fast and turns off. I actually looked at it once while pressing the button. It flashed green real fast then turned off. Like the contacts was just barely making contact.

Does that make any sense? Its a horrible explanation.

Maybe like screwing in a lightbulb just far enough that it flickers on and off. When it hits that 3 time mark it turns itself off.

I just chalk it up to user error. Me not making the button press hard enough.

Edit: mine does that. You really have to make an assertive button press. Press that button like it owes you money!! ;)

Sent from somebodys phone I found using Tapatalk.

Is it actually tuning itself off, or just not firing?

To test, make sure nothing is attached, fire it and see if it gives you an error (which means nothing is attached). Do this a few times and see if it cuts itself off.

One other thing, are you chain vaping? If you click the button too quickly, it could simply be activating the turn off switch. That's happened to me and a few others as well.

Also, what batteries are you using with the SVD? Do you have other batteries you can use to test?

I have an SVD and have never had any issues but many report issues with protected batteries, so if you're using them, you may want to get something like a Sony VTC3 or VTC4, a Panasonic or an AW IMR.

As said above; check if it does it by itself with not topper.

If so then the problem is with the device itself.

If it happens with toppers, then the problem could be on the connector to the topper. Maybe the connector is shorting out.

Do you have a topper like the miniprotank, or evod which uses the eGo threads instead of the inner 510 threads?

If so see if it happens only on 510 devices but not eGo devices.

With the 510 interface the positive and negative electical points are so close together, shorting out seems just a hairwidth away.

What is a protected battery? I expect to buy a tube soon, so I need find out about batteries for it.

There's no predicting when it will do it. Sometimes it just doesn't fire, other times the light blinks a couple of times and then it turns off. It can happen with a freshly charged battery, or one that is almost ready to charge.

It does it with both eGo and 510 threaded toppers.

I'm using Panasonic unprotected batts. A couple of them are at least a year old, and the other two might be four or five months old. It doesn't matter whether an older or newer battery is in use. Been thinking about trying the higher rated mah Panny batts.

Tried the no topper test and it fired every time. Fired it 20 times, but then again it might work for two or three hours just fine.

No chain vaping.

To quote Baditude

These batteries use a built-in protective circuit because they contain volatile chemistry that can become unstable quickly when they are severely stressed. Circuit failure can lead to battery failure, venting violently with flame in an event called thermal runaway. These batteries have a higher capacity (mAh rating) than IMR batteries and have been used in single voltage applications in a mechanical mod when long battery time was the primary objective. Not recommended for regulated mods, RBAs, or use in a mechanical using a Kick.

I'd recommend a Sony VTC4. They're 30 amp batteries and work well for both regulated and mechanical.

Sony 18650VTC4 2000MAH 30AMP Battery - Eciggity

I have 3 of them right now and they run my Nemesis Clone and my SVD.

Well if it doesn't do the blinkity thing with the toppers off, then it's a clue as to what is really going on. Maybe your toppers are shorting out the connection............. but you also said it happens with eGo toppers too!?

Maybe some eliquid has gone down inside and interfering with the electronics
