Worth building coils with my set up?

Hi fellow vapers....

I've been doing some research into building micro coils and notice that those who are offering advice, generally seem to be using variable voltage and variable wattage devices.

My questions is whether it's worth building micro coils with a fixed vv/vw 650 mah Evod Battery?

I'm using a mini pro tank 2 if that makes any difference.

The only reason I'm considering it is from a cost point of view, I'm not unhappy with the performance of my present set up at all.

Thanking you I'm advance for any thoughts or opinions.

I started rebuiding long before my first ego died. I was using a Protank 2, a mini and an evod. Definitely worth it. And yeah, I did upgrade to a VV/VW, but I was enjoying the benefits of the rebuilds before then. Better taste, better vapor, way few dry hits. My rebuilds have lasted quite a while, too!

Quick update... based on all the excellent replies I've ordered the required essentials to build my own coils. Whilst I wait, I decided to practice using cotton wool on an old coil, just to get and idea of how to thread it etc. I didn't realise that this in itself would make such a big difference to the vape. I removed the flavor wicks and just used a piece of cotton wool and the vape is completely different. Much fuller, much tastier and overall a better experience. The draw is a little tighter but I can live with that. Anyone who doesn't want to go the full whack and build coils should at the very least try changing their wick to cotton wool. It's a revelation :)

Hi Arkwright.

Go for it. We all might need to in not too long.

I'd just add... anyone who doesn't want to go the full whack can also buy packs of ready-made wicks/coils. I bought 50 of these (£1.50) and fitted 3 immediately on 3 Kanger clearomisers. 10 days later, they are as good as new. They don't seem to get all burnt out like the factory heads. I think there's something going on... ??

Did notice you stated "from a cost point of veiw..." and "not happy with set up...". I started vaping 2 months ago with Ego-t stater kit. Then wanted a better battery and purchased a Itaste VV 3.0. Then I found out how much better bottom coils were than top fed coils. Moved from IClear 16's to Protank II. (love them). Wow I can rebuild coils? I can save money! Then began the passion...my computer desk looks like a work table in a Vapor shop that builds setups for customers. Spent money every week on parts and hardware. Each a step up.
But I digress...point here is rebuilding is more of challenge/satisfaction kinda thing now. (which goes along with the "not happy"). Same for me. The VV/VW units have a timed cutoff of usually 10 seconds. I've found the Provari is 16 seconds. I hate that as I'm a double hitter (probably because currently one draw seems to weak). Found that Ego style batteries can't deliver enough power. Moved up to Sigelei ZMax V5. More power, but still timed cutoff. Now researching my first mechanical.
Anyway if you are like me, be ready for.."Ok how can I make it better?...". You should invest in a good E-Cig resistance checker in stead of chasing the head around with DVOM leads (and won't have to subtract any numbers if zero check on meter shows resisitance). Can also use this checker as a work stand. VV/VW units have limitations on power. If you get to RDA's, you'll need a Mech. (in my opinion). My findings so far. Welcome to the obsession!!!

Building is always worth it, whether it's a pt or an rba. But fair warning, once you head down that path, next thing you know is you'll be looking at mechs and regulated mods and rba's. Most people who have re-buildable atomizers, use a regulated or mechanical mod to get the best vape possible out of their gear. I use only rba's, but use both mech's and high amp regulated mods. I also vape at 30 watts or higher. I'm dice, I am a vapeoholic. Love everything vape.

Vape is a progressive disease hobby, The more one vapes, the more one wants, and the more gear one acquirers. lmo. Well, least that has been my experience in the world of vape.

Vape long and Prosper!!!

P.S.: The cat bites!

Only have 10 second units now. Problem is I like cool vapes (lower wattage) with the good throat hit. Also trying to cut down on Nic mg. I'm complicated. Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong? Not trying to hijack this thread...

The key to ones preferred vape is adequate air supply and adequate wicking. That's assuming one has found their preferred juice ratio's and nic levels already. Everything effects everything, when it comes to the final results.

Been vaping almost a year now, and am able to customize every aspect of my vape, from mixing my own juice, build coils, with choice of wick and wire, and can push everything to the limit. Have a bit of compulsive/obsessive thing going on too, which does influence my choice of vape. lmao.

I read somewhere that factory coil heads are made with weak spots so that they burn out after so long, for "safety reasons". I've got 2 in particular rda's, that I use every day. The coils on both are more than 2 months old, I just dry burn and rewick.

A protank mini2?? it can be done but the frustration level may be high... I did a few coil rebuilds for the Protank 1 and within a week I purchased a HCigar 3.1 Kayfun clone... much easier to build coils for....

A PT 2 coil is no more difficult than a PT3 head. The difficulty with 30ga Kanthal is not too bad unless you have issues with dexterity in your hands. Even with what might be the start of arthritis in mine, I've had success so far.
