What is an eCheck?


Question : Answer : Sending an eCheck is just like writing a check, only you send it through your computer. It’s also called an electronic funds transfer, because you withdraw money directly from your bank account.

When you send money with an eCheck from a U.S. bank account, the transaction is held as pending for 3-4 business days, until the electronic funds transfer clears your bank. From a Canadian bank account, the transaction is held as pending for 7-8 business days.

With the time it takes to clear.. that'd be a week or more wait for my stuff.. so I don't think I'd be using it. (I have a hard enough time waiting 3-4 days.) However, it would be useful for some people I'm sure.

I'd use it, not that moving money into the account with the debit card is all that hard either.

Personally I would not use it but this could be very helpful for some people or in some circumstances. Such as if you lost your credit/ debit card and had to wait for a replacement. Also many people prefer to use echecks when paying bills as the costs assoicated with use are lower. I belive credit card companys charge Steve a percentage per order placed using such from what I know of billing from these companys.Since the fees assoicated with this would be on Steves end I would say you would need to decide if it would profitable as to your costs associated with the use. So I vote yes that it would be a helpful thing to have but I think you should factor any fees to see if it is worth it to you

I recently had to have a bank card canceled due to some "issues" with a smoke51 vendor. This option would have been great at that time. My new card should be here this week, though. Honestly I would have only used that service one or two time if you had offered it.

We live in the country, really! I doubt I could use an e-check. Our bank isn't on the net, even wire transfers have to go thru another bank and then be routed to our bank, but they have been so good to us over the years, I wouldn't dream of changing. I love doing business in the country!
I use PayPal a lot, I prefer it to credit cards. I have no idea what the charges to you are with PayPal. Are they as much as a credit card?
I know a lot of merchants here have refused American Express because they charge them so much more than other companies.

I just use my debit card online and it would not benefit me personally as it comes out of my checking account anyway .
Since most banks offer debit cards that are used in place of a credit card I dont see the benefit .As an accountant I would foresee more labor /time on your end though in processing /tracking.
