Would Anyone Be Interested?

Hey guys! So I'm looking into getting into DIY juice, and an idea popped into my head. One of my hobbies (also my degree) is software engineering. I was wondering if anyone would use a juice mixer program. Essentially I would crowd source recipes, brands, etc into a program. This program would have a built in calculator (obviously), but it would also house built-in recipes, your own recipes, and should they be willing to share, it would allow you to use other peoples recipes.

Basically, the program would have every flavoring brand, and every flavor offered by the brand (including those that are not safe). If you pick a flavoring that has ingredients that aren't "safe" for inhalation, it would throw up a warning and offer suggestions for other flavors by different brands.

Now when you are picking certain flavors, it would give you a 0-100% scale on the strength of the flavor to aid in mixing, and as you're creating the recipe, if someone has made something similar, it would show their recipe for comparison.

Think of it as a giant, maintained database of recipes that can be easily recreated down to the exact level. Regardless if others will use it or not, I'm going to make a basic version for myself, but I'll expand upon it if there is a demand.

As far as basic recipe calculators, several well-known ones already exist, although there are none that I am aware of that are portable across all computing platforms (win/mac/unix/mobile/etc) except web-based calculators. The latest of these calculate recipes based on weight as well as the usual volume-based calculations. WRT recipe and flavor databasing combined with an online calculator, sounds a lot like what has been developed and located here: e-Liquid Calculator

Dont be discouraged though, by all means code and learn. I think there is always room for more where portability is concerned. The idea of a self-contained offline flavor database is also appealing, there are at least a couple projects that are working on these as either ms access db's or excel spreadsheets, again targeted to one specific os.

Well dang, beaten to the punch. Yeah, mine would be java based, and would run locally on basically any platform.

Maybe Late on this, But I'll tell you what someone people might find Useful. And that is a Coil Building Program.

Something where users could enter in Different Resistance Wire gauges and the Numbers of Loops and do What-If Scenarios.

I started to write one awhile back in VB but never finished it. Things always seem to take Priority. That and I write Code very Slowly.

I coded one of these in tcl thats only about 40 lines, it works the other way and takes awg gauge and a target resistance as options. Seems to overestimate # of turns by 1 turn and doesnt account for lead-leg length but was very easy to code... Ive just been lazy to work on it further.

./coilcalc.tcl 30 1.8
form diameter:0.078 awg:30 ohms/foot:8.7065
amt:2.48 in. turns:10.12

Also I have the core of a recipe calculator (in tcl) that does volume-based calculations given a text-file recipe. I would release code for both of these freely given a bit more time and cleaning up effort.

With a little fixing up, the coil calculator seems easy enough, its probably only the undefined lead-leg length thats throwing off the turn count, as the wire length seems correct. I'd also be willing to collaborate on any projects written in ansi c or perl. Spending too much time mixing and vaping up the results and not enough time coding lol.

There's always room for another good e-juice calculator... Give it a shot. I use the e-juice me up and love it. The only thing missing is cost calculations like some of the others I've seen.

Very nice of you to offer your talent to the DIY community.
I see a lot of people that want a program that would keep a list of their flavors, and they would be able to make a recipe with those flavors. So, just hit a button and get a list of recipes that can be made with their flavors.
I know I would definitely like to use a program like that. It would be nice to keep track of my flavors, if it was easy to just check them from a list and also how much of that flavor I have. Maybe even a shopping list tab, wish list tab, flavor substitution suggestions. I could go on.
I have not seen any programs out there that would do this. What do you think? Is it even possible?

Here are a couple coil building links that may be useful:

On Topic, I would still like to know if this type of DIY program is feasible through the eyes of a programmer.

X2. I often wish other calculators could also work backwards. Show me all of the recipes that contain "x and y and z"

I like that...

Kinda like when you open the Frig and say... "I wonder what I can make from a Can of Corned Beef Hash, 6 Green Olives (Pitted of course), 1/2 a Bottle of Tamari Sauce and 2 Hard Boiled Eggs?"

---

Happy New Years Everyone!

The calculator in This Thread will do just that, best part is, it is being very actively developed, and the author will look into adding any features you might want to see, very much worth a look.

Sounds interesting. I like the idea of being able to search recipes for a flavouring on hand by manufacturer and Flavour.

I am using eJuice Calculator and found it to be the best one for my needs. Since I looked for this feature before and you suggested it was there, I thought I better look real hard before declaring that it wasn't. Sure enough IT IS!! Oddly located and named, but now it doesn't matter.

THANKS ccwaters!!
