Would someone help me design a desktop mod?

I realize this might be just a tad ambitious for my first mod but I don't really need any battery mods to carry around, what I need and want is a desktop mod that works very much like a passthrough.

What I want to make (partly just for the retro aesthetic) is a VV device with a readout for at least the voltage and an option for atomizer resistance would be very nice to have as well.

I am not worried about anything being compact.

There would be two main parts:

1. The handle with a firing button and the 510 connection and the connecting wires leading to the

2. Part that sits on my desk which contains the power supply, an additional firing button, voltage readout, voltage adjustment, and the main on/off switch.

With the research I have done so far I am pretty sure I can handle making the variable voltage part and all the rest, the parts I'm not so sure about are power supply. I don't know what the safest, cheapest, and easiest way to go is. If worse comes to worse I can just make it battery powered.

There's no issue with putting batteries in parallel is there?

Has anyone built anything similar?

Find you a 3.5-4.2 volt 5amp+ power supply and use a DNA, then you don't need a display, just a little dial I don't know that a supply like that exists... For your VV setup you might be able to get away w/ a big 5V supply like these guys sell: Single Output Supplies-MPJA, Inc. Get a 20 amp and you could run a buncha attys at the same time, lol.

How about recycling electro junk? a PSU for an old laptop or xbox is a nice compact power source and with a bit of addition does everything you want it to. This is the board used in the Ghetto PT that asdaq posted. Add your choice in power supply and a box to put it in (or just hot glue it to the PSU ) and you're pretty much set.

use the above or any 12v 2amp or better supply and an OKR or TI 08100 regulator in a small aluminum project box...just add a barrel connector socket meter and button to the alum box put electronics in and you have a passthru sans battery powered by the 12v supply...

Been vaping on this at my desk at work since I finished it. For a PT first mod, unless you're an electrical/electronics wiz , I would definitely suggest going with the LM2596 or similar VV module.
