Would you buy an E-Cigarette from the "Big Tobacco" companies?

Would you buy an E-Cigarette from the "Big Tobacco" companies?

  • Never! They got me addicted to nicotine in the first place!

  • I would think about it only if the product was cheaper than cigarettes.

  • I would think about it because they can spend more money on testing.

  • Yes. I would trust Big Tobacco over an E-cigarette company.

  • Yes! Right away. They have the money to make a great product.

I know for some people choosing this option " I would think about it because they can spend more money on testing" may be appealing but think about it.. Big Tobacco is not known for being forthcoming with test results unless it suits their purpose. If they did throw lots of money into testing and it helps confirm what we already believe, that e-cigs are better for you than smoking, it may help the industry as a whole - and at the same time damn themselves for making cigarettes. That's one good reason I cannot see Big Tobacco getting into the e-cig business.

There are several catch 22's here.

I would still purchase from the small vendor, but I would like to see BT get involved just because of the power they have. They might be able to make things easier for the rest of us.
I always try to go to the small vendors if given a choice. I only buy my guitar supplies from the mom and pop stores even though the supplies cost more.

I also buy guitar stuff from the little shops. :)

I understand the potential benefits of Big Tobacco getting into this market, but...be careful what you wish for. You may get it.

These major companies are ALL about profit, of course. And one of the ways they make profits is by trying to limit competition. Look how much legislation, regulation, and limitation of cigarettes has actually served the purpose of limiting competition in the analog cigarette market. And big tobacco was the beneficiary.

IF they get into ecigarettes, they're gonna want to limit competition- ie, squash the small vendors. And they have the financial resources to get it done.

Best,
Ande

I would consider it if I decided it was a quality product that I enjoyed. Ive spent a lot of money on vaping and the experience with all the different vendors (there is a lot of them), equipment (lots of there to), and juices has been very inconsistent. Which frankly sometimes makes me want to give it up all together.
One thing Ill give big tobacco credit for is consistency. Every time I bought a pack of smokes they were the same every single time.. Flavor, feel, look, sensations, right down to opening the package. Consistency is what every great product is built upon. You want every product you purchase to work, feel, taste, and satisfy you the way you expect it to every time.

That being said... beyond the consistency, big tobacco companies are .......s and it would definitely be tough to actually hand them another one of my hard earned dollars. But if im being honest I would CONSIDER it.

Today, as an experienced vaper, No Way! I prefer my money going to support small vendors, and when possible, LOCAL* vendors. Back when I first started though, if there had been a genuine RJR E-Camel on the market, I think I would have bought it. If Big Tobacco did start producing PV versions I think they would appeal more to newbies and the curious than to any of us e-cig veterans. We've come to expect a greater degree of flexibility and choice than I think Big Smoke would be willing to accommodate. Also, if they ever DO offer digital versions of their signature brands, I'll still be carrying a deep seated grudge against them from all their shenanigans and the vicious war they've waged on this technology from day one.

*Eventhough Phillip Morris/Altria would technically be local for me, they're not getting one thin dime either!

What evidence do you have that BT ever waged a war against e cigarettes? Everything I have ever seen from the beginning of that war has pointed to anti-smoker groups and their partners in crime, the drug companies, who have waged the war against e cigs.

I really don't think that Big Tobacco will kill off the small vendors.
I believe we would still have our niche of boutique juice makers and mod builders selling to knowledgeable consumers.

Big Tobacco would eat up people like Blu and NJoy and Smoking Everywhere.
And that might be a very good thing, if the product they produce is safe and without additives.

And I'm quite certain the vaping public would demand that it be safe, and ingredients be listed for all to see.

I would probably continue to support the small vendors.
But it would be nice to stop in a 7-11 and pick up something as needed.

Great idea for a poll, by the way!
:)

Thanks, well I kinda had to after Phillip Morris put 50.000 dollars in my bank account. ( Kidding!)

I think this is funny. As of right now, many people would buy from Big Tobacco 'Right Away' and some would think about it for various reasons - but still No One will trust Big tobacco over the e-cig vendors !

As I said, there are many catch 22's up there.. good thing no one can know who posted what - the answers compared to the lack of answers can incriminate some folks. Remember this one is multiple choice. It's like saying, " I won't trust Big Tobacco but I'll still buy from them !"

I've been thinking about this lately. Wondering why big tobacco hasn't yet jumped into the e-cig market and the only thing I can think of is that profit margins aren't high enough yet. I mean what does it really cost to produce a pack of cigarettes once you take away all the taxes that are put on after?

I think they are playing it smart and letting all the small vendors spend the R&D dollars to make these things effective and low cost before they go throwing money at these companies to buy them or have some chinese factory produce an exact knock off.

But I think it's inevitable that one day big tobacco will be in the e-cig game. Once that happens, it's game over for any e-cig vendor that hasn't carved themselves a niche.

They have profit to lose. Who do you think was partially behind the FDA banning ecigs? Do you really, for one minute, think that the FDA really cares about our health? Is so, you need to do alot more research. They still allow cigarettes knowing what they do to us. The BT keeps paying them off. Big Pharma also had alot to lose, profit. No more chantix, gum, patches, or whatever other junk that they "claim" works but doesn't.

RJ Reynolds tried some time back to cut a deal with Runyan. RJ wanted total control over the USA...Runyan wouldn't agree so the whole deal was stopped.
