Got into a debate with the boyfriend of my receptionist at our company Christmas Party tonight. He's a smoker who bought into all the "Ecigs may be worse then smoking!" hype. I didn't start the conversation. In fact, I was about to leave and I had my MVP 2 in my hand when the receptionist stopped me to introduce us. Halfway through the debate, the receptionist says to her boyfriend "You are against them because they didn't work for you, that's all. You ought to try again, with what she has!" Meaning, my MVP. Turns out, he's tried Njoys and there was nothing enjoyable about them for him. So, I asked if he'd like to try the MVP. I turned the watts up, and handed it over. He nearly choked on the amount of vapor he got. All of a sudden, a guy who was just arguing with me on how vaping was worse then smoking is asking me where he can get my gear. He told my receptionist he wants exactly what I have, and to get all the info and links for him. Converted by a puff. She's planning on pulling together a starter kit for him. He's a menthol smoker and I'm not, so does anyone here have some good menthol recommendations I can give her tomorrow? Also, do you think an MVP 2 is wise for someone just starting? He wants my, exact, vape. I had an iClear 30b on it at the time, but with the menthol I was thinking something glass would suit better. Protank 3? I usually point people to an ego type variable volt. First time I met someone just coming from cigs and wanting something like a box mod. Should I still recommend something smaller? An iTaste VV v3?

The iClear 30 is just fine for menthol flavors (no fears of cracking from the flavor). Having tried both the Protank and the iClear 30, the iClear 30 is superior in both flavor and vapor production, IMHO of course.

The MVP is great for beginners, intermediate, and advanced vapors. No reason to not get one other than the fact that it must be considered a disposable device at some point once the battery dies. But for the price, it's a great mod.

You live in New York City. There must be a few vapor shops in the area that offer sampling of their flavors before you chose which one you like best. This is the best way to find flavors. The worst mistake is to pick flavors for another person.

I did recommend a place that was convenient to get to from out job. For as large a city as this is though, there's a surprising lack of vape shops. Only found two, and all the rest are really a smoke shop that sells gear for smoking other... things.... Their prices are so high for the most basic ego types, that it's more likely to be a deterrent, plus they don't let you sample. The place I recommended is a vape lounge, and the people there are friendly and knowledgeable. I was hoping someone knew a good site with multiple menthol options they can order as a sample pack or something. I'm planning on telling her what eliquid I had in my iClear as well, in case he really liked the flavor, although I do think it was more about the throat hit he got then the flavor.

Love the story....good luck on your adventure and Baditude is right, find a place for the "receptionists boyfriend" to visit and find a flavor that suits him. Juices are just too subjective for another to pick out. Ok you posted before I did so.....find out what he does smoke....most menthol smokers use a non flavored base with menthol added. Hopefully someone will see this thread, if not try one with the heading about Menthol juice. Good Luck.

A couple of vendors are known for their menthol flavors: Mr E and Halo. I haven't tried Mr. E's, and was sent some free samples of menthol flavors from Halo to trial. Maybe it was just me, but I didn't like any of them.

I was a 1 ppd Marlboro Menthol Lights smoker, and the flavor that I quit smoking with was Smokeless Image's Volt Ice Menthol @24 mg. I've tried several menthols since, and it is still my favorite menthol flavor.

Hmm... He's a Newport smoker. I always hated Newports. To the point where I wouldn't take one if offered one and I didn't have any cigarettes on me. I'll mention Smokeless image, and I was just thinking about Halo. Funny enough, Mr E juice was what I had, but it was their RY4. I've been going through every RY4 I could find. I think something like an RY4 could very well be my all day vape, but I just haven't found that perfect one yet. Currently vaping some Pink Spot Swagger...

Something like RY4, but not really RY4... Would be Mom&Pops Tobacco Praze. Been my all-day vape for over half a year now. I do vape other flavors as well, but that's my main go-to. Not really a RY4 at all, but something along those lines. Less sweet, for one.

Good going on choking some sense into a smoker!

I'm not sure I'd limit him to a menthol flavor. I tried forever to find my camel light flavor but was never happy with anything that I tried. I'm more into caramel, vanilla, coffee, tobacco mixtures now and combine them regularly as well. Even found that a red bull / watermelon mix is a nice change from time to time and is way different than a camel light.

I started this thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...cussion/458263-3ml-cheap-sampler-bottles.html when I started about 4 months ago. Maybe it can be of some use to him. Maybe pick a site that has a few "cool", mint, and or menthol flavors. Pick a few of those and have him pick a few random flavors just to see if that does it for him. It is about 4 months old so may be a bit outdated with prices but can serve as a starting point.

I highly recommend sampler packages for new people...at least until you get an idea of what may or may not work for you. If I was still stuck with tobacco flavors and trying to find my perfect "camel light" I don't think I would still be on these forums and probably back on analogs. I call it the "epiphany moment" when you realize that it doesn't have to taste like what your old cigarette tasted like.

Also if willing to wait I find 30-60ml at FT are practically sample bottles as well ;) for the price that is. I usually don't pitch anything and try to mix it with another juice if I find it really un-tolerable. If my memory is right some of my 60ml tobacco juices were around 5-6$ from there. I just mix most of the tobacco flavors from there with vanilla, coffee, mocha, caramel, etc and can tolerate them now.

At any rate my point is give him 10 or so options. If it's a small and/or cheap bottle no harm is done. Worst case he can give it back to you or share with another vaper.

Random responses:

- I think an MVP is a great starter setup, and he's already TRIED it, so it's definitely a good fit!

- I was gonna recommend Halo for some menthol flavors...but I'm just like you - never could smoke anything menthol, and don't like it in my vape flavors either. Except MAYBE a LITTLE hint with a fruit - like Halo's Malibu was vape-able.

- Just an FYI, in case you've thought about it. A nice RY4 is VERY EASY TO DIY. It's the first mix I ever made, and I still vape it. All you need is Nic base, VG & PG, a couple syringes and empty bottles, and "Double RY4" flavoring (TFA). Maybe some "bavarian cream" (if you want a creamy RY4) or some "AP" (if you want a nutty RY4 like Tribeca).

You live in New York City. There must be a few vapor shops in the area that offer sampling of their flavors before you chose which one you like best. This is the best way to find flavors. The worst mistake is to pick flavors for another person.

Good Guy Vapes in Clifton, NJ (just a few miles from Manhattan) has an awesome juice sample bar. They have their own house juices, but also carry juices from some awesome manufacturers: The Standard Vape, Jameson's, The Vapor Chef, Suicide Bunnies, DB Liquids, NicQuid, and Five Pawns.

Every flavor they carry is available to sample. They have some eGo Twist or Vision Spinner batteries (not sure which, never used theirs because I have my own gear to test with), and load the samples into clearomizers (mostly Evods, but some are CE4's and the like). If you have a dripper, you can also use that -- they'll hand you the bottle and you can drip onto your 510 dripping atomizer or your RDA.

They have a wide range of PV's, from the basic eGos to APV's like the iTaste MVP 2.0, iTaste VV 3.0, eVic, (I think they have it) a Vamo, all the way to a wide variety of mechanical mods.

The MVP 2.0 is an awesome APV, but if it is a bit too large for them, the iTaste VV 3.0 is the same hardware in a smaller package, with a smaller 800 mAh battery and no USB power output.

They also have a good selection of clearomizers, from basic Evods and CE4's to Protanks. Plenty of RBA's and RDA's as well.

Their site is http://www.goodguyvapes.com. Don't be disappointed if you see that a lot of products are listed as out of stock on their website. They haven't updated in a while -- I was just there today and they had most, if not all, of what's listed on their site, and also have many products that aren't even listed on their site at all.

If you have any questions or would like me to check if they have a particular product in stock, I hope to head back up again tomorrow (Friday 12/20).

(No, I am not affilated with Good Guy Vapes in any way, I'm just a very happy customer of theirs. The staff is friendly and polite, and are very knowledgable and will help steer you in the right direction on what would be best for you. I highly recommend them.)

Juice Lines & Prices
I'm going from memory on this, so I'm not 100% sure on some of these prices. The ones I'm not sure of are marked with an asterisk.

Standard
Good Guy Vapes juice: $5 / 10 mL ($0.50 / mL), buy 4 get one free -- $20 / 50 mL ($0.40 / mL)
NicQuid: $6 / 10 mL ($0.60 / mL)

Premium
DB Juice: $16 / 30 mL ($0.63 /mL)*
Vapor Chef: $10 / 15 mL ($0.67 / mL)
Suicide Bunnies: $22 / 30 mL ($0.73 / mL)
The Standard Vape: $22 / 30 mL ($0.73 / mL)*

Top Shelf
Jameson's Irish Vapor Juice: $25 / 30 mL ($0.83 / mL)
Five Pawns: $27.50 / 30 mL ($0.92 / mL)

Their house juice is really good for a house juice. My favorite is The Vapor Chef. They have some incredible flavors, and at $10 for a 15 mL bottle it's an amazing value. The higher-end stuff is also great (Jameson's Peaches and Cream is heavenly). They can get pricey, but are great if you want to splurge. When I stock on on juice from them, I'll usually get five 10 mL bottles of their house juice (to get the free bottle after you buy four), 2 - 3 bottles from The Vapor Chef, 1 - 2 bottles of DB liquids, and possibly (if I have enough cash at the time) one bottle from one of their priciest manufacturers.

And if you live in the city and don't have a car, I'd be happy to give you a ride if you take a train into New Jersey. NJ Transit Main Line to Clifton -- you can take the PATH to Hoboken and get onto a Main Line train directly, or take a NJ Transit train from Penn Station to Secaucus and transfer to a Main Line train there. I could take you from Secaucus but that is a bit out of my way.

mvp is very new user friendly and should be fine for him now and down the road when he gets experimental a good long term device for most people in my opinion.

as for the iclear 30b id say that is a good beginner tank for him all the reviews ive seen (havnt tried it yet should be here in t-8hrs) its a great delivery device and all the sites i have seen say its a plastic tank but says its "guaranteed not to crack with juices" only time will tell about that.

congrats on the sceptical convert

Ih you haven't tried ITCvapes RY4 I think you would be in for a wonderful surprise. I would highly suggest if you in fact like Ry4.:2c::)

One thing you can consider is picking up a bottle of Flavorart (or some other brand) of menthol. Have him add a drop or two (or more) to liquids as needed. Just need to be careful.. If you put too much in it will hit you hard.

One of my wife's friends who wasn't a smoker tried my Volt when about a year ago. She now vapes 0 nic. I make my DIY's and give them to her with a bottle of menthol. She then adds what she wants to them.

I do enjoy a high % menthol with just some sweetner added. It packs a punch.
