I just wrapped my first coil sunday night, and the guy showing me how to do so started me making micro coils 28g kanthal with cotton. Then yesterday I learn micro coils are more harsh, (explains why I couldn't stop coughing) I already vape 75% vg and I certainly want the smoothest hit I can get sooooo... how do I wind a coil for the smoothest hit? I have an IGO W and no Idea how to wind a normal coil. if you could point me to some videos or really any help would be much appreciated.

I think I might have explained my problem wrong. I don't need a tutorial on micro coils, I need to eliminate all throat hit. I use a Igo-w rda drilled out to 5/64 and 75% vg juice, I wrapped a 2.2ohm micro coil and the hit is still really harsh to me. Is there a way to wrap the coil that will reduce throat hit?

I'd second the post about bigger airholes. You may wish to purchase some drill bits to widen the hole. To test this theory, take a really forceful drag, sucking through a lot of air - this'll give you the same effect as a wider airhole. You'll probably find it's not harsh at all. Also, if I over-saturate my wick, the hit can be quite harsh until it dries out to normal levels.

Oops. I really didn't need to quote this reply.
I was thinking the opposite about saturation. Could it be that the cotton is too dry and harshness is from burnt cotton? I know I did that a few times when I first vaped with a RDA. If you look at the cotton you can tell if it doesn't have enough juice on it.

As others have said, rdas intensify everything. After moving on to an rda, I had to reduce both my flavor and nicotine content.

Also, are you sure your wick is wet enough? I started off by getting that really nasty, harsh, burnt flavor, as I wasn't catching the dripper before the cotton got too dry.

Have you checked to make sure your airhole(s) line up closely to your coil(s)? That can be all the difference between a smooth vape and extreme harshness.

This^

Also are you sure it is 70/30 vg/pg and not the other way around. I made an order to the vapor chef and was glad I got the small battles because it is listed pg/vg instead of the vg/pg oreder like all the other venders I had ordered from.

Here's something different. A friend just told me that when dripping they pulse the battery while they are taking a hit. It causes the juice to to stay much cooler and equals a cooler vape, plus it won't burn the juice. The longer the push of the button the hotter the vape will be.

I use an Igo-W also. My friend can not vape on it. Even with 2 air-holes and 30/70VG. I don't mean to sound like there isn't a way around it but she does not like my set up, and I don't have a for sure answer on how to fix that for her, either.

There's so many variables. I had one flavor that absolutely killed my throat! An evening of vaping and I would wake up in the middle of the night due to the pain in my throat. All from one lousy flavor that I happened to adore. Lol!

Check to see there is air space underneath each of the coils and not just cotton there. Air needs to pass below and above the coils. if not this will also cause cotton to burn, and or give really *harsh* hit. (I apologize if I'm being redundant and you already know all this)

Also, you won't know the cotton is burned until you pull the cotton out from inside of the coil. You don't even have to unwrap to find out. Just pull it a little bit one way or the other to see.

Long shot, but, if a coil has gunk built up on it, it too will give a harsh vape. I know it's a long shot since it sounds like you haven't used this coil for long but hey, it might help someone else, too. :)

Now I'm really curious as to what the solution is for this. Sounds like a lot of trial and error. Great suggestions here. I'm learning a lot, too.

Thank you all for the help I think I have it figured out now. I took the juice I was vaping with, that was already a higher VG mix, and mixed it 50/50 with pure VG from the pharmacy. I figured even if it didn't reduce the throat hit, it was time to step down my nic level anyway. I did know about keeping the air holes lined up with the coil and keeping space under the coil, I didn't know how to check if I was burning cotton (It was a little discolored but not much I just adjusted the wick) pulsing the fire button really helped too. I think When using rda's you just have to take the juice you are used to and make the VG% WAY higher and the nic level about half of what you're used to.
