I've been reading these forums obsessively the past week after finding out about e cigs and knew I had to get one. My first thought was to go with a blu, but decided to do some research and found this site. I'm so glad I did, I read everything and finally decided to go with the 510 and love it! Anyway I want to do an article about ecigs for the magazine I work for and need some advice on what things I should talk about. I've only been using my ecig for 2 days so I'm not really an expert on them but other than health benefits, what does everyone think would be good to talk about. I work for a Music magazine so plan to talk about things like being able to use them in places like clubs and venues where smoking is banned and things like that. But need some other ideas for an interesting article. I'm doing research on my own so I'm not here to ask people to write the article for me but just thought more experienced users could help me out. Any advice would be useful, thanks.

I know you want to focus on the product and what it can do for your readers but at some point hopefully you'll have to tackle the elephant in the room. The FDA's report on e-cigarettes and the truth behind it. You're in the proper forum to get the resources you need to tackle that issue.

Here are some links:

Studies - if you go through them you'll see there are some glaring differences between the FDA's report and their findings.

The Rest of the Story: Tobacco Analysis

Electronic Cigarette Association's (ECA) Response to the FDA

This is just a drop if the lake of information out there on the subject.

As for using e-cigarettes at music venues you might want to research the sound activated automatic models vs. the manual switch models. Some DJ's have had issues with loud music turning their batteries on during a session and draining their batteries dry. This will most likely hold true for concert goers as well.

Please note that just because these aren't burning tobacco does not automatically mean that they can be vaped anywhere. Best advice for clubbing is to get the club owner/manager permission before using. The FDA is trying its best to give these devices a bad name. We don't need to help them!

Name the law that says you can't use them anywhere?

This isn't about the law, it is about the right of a private company to set the rules for their establishment.

Want to help the FDA along with their plans? Start vaping in a restaurant without clearing it with the owner/manager and then argue with them about "the law" when they ask you to stop.

The biggest thing to me is the ability to get off cigarettes with all the harmful side effects but still have the sensation of "smoking" and still getting nicotine. No second hand smoke to worry about if you have children at home, won't make your car and your home and your clothes smell like crap. And they don't make a mess.

Jury is still out on where we will be allowed to use them, especially if the FDA gets their way. Just amazing to me that the FDA would come out against something like this which is so much better than what they replace. Its a shame our money is used to fund crap like this which is obviously driven by the tobacco lobby and the big pharma lobby...

Good luck with the article and let us know when it is scheduled to come out.

Forget the FDA bashing. That's a public turnoff.

If you're a real reporter, Gunstar, then you know the value of seeing the future and planning your stories before news breaks. The dumb reporter only covers things that have happened; the smart reporter sees what's coming and prepares.

I work for a Music magazine...
Make sure you include reference to celeb's... I know there are images of quite a few celebs using and supporting ecigs on the net!

Also, be sure to reference the fact that the FDA's own report indicates that while "traces" of carcinogens were detected, those "traces" were FAR lower than traditional tobacco and there was only a few... nowhere NEAR the number of carcinogens and chemicals found in traditional tobacco. All of which PROVES that ecigs ARE safer than traditional tobacco products. Use the FDA's own study against them!

You are a member of the media and as such have the ability to help us get the word out in a positive light and expose the FDA's unjustified "alarmist" attacks and double standards on these things!

Write you article with the music angle....................and then throw in a little tidbit about how when the media blew up the whole "not safe issue" what they meant was not 100% safe but in all actuality they are still probably 99.99% safe and certainly as safe or safer than all other stop smoking aids.

I respectfully disagree, Bob.

I think we (manufacturers, suppliers AND end users) are missing the boat if we do not expose the fact that the FDA's own studies so far have only proven what ecig users and suppliers have been saying all along... that these things, while not perfect, ARE a better and safer alternative to smoking tobacco products.

This information is a diamond in the rough and with the right mining and use (such as including ingredients from cleaner US made juices) can help ecigs more than anything else so far!
