So I'm still pretty new to vaping (3-4 months), but unfortunately NOT so new that I have't already wasted $$ on stuff I coulda found out about if I'd paid attention to forums before now :) 20 years smoking analogs and I quit overnight when I discovered vaping, via an overpriced e-cig from the local BigPharma outlet. My first attempt to build an affordable kit that works for me hasn't gone so well. (Protank3 + X6 battery) I've moved on from vaping-as-cigarette to vaping as enjoyable hobby, and here's hoping this forum will help me make more informed choices in the future :)

Thanks for the warm (and immediate) welcome! Unfortunately, I'm finding that my setup leaves MUCH to be desired, and I've been cheating with analogs more & more lately. I've developed an annoying "pu-pu-puff-puff-drawwww" action with it that fails on all levels...but there's no WAY I get any $100+ kit past my wife and her budgeting apps

The thing about smoking is everyone who smokes has a cig budget. You want them, need them, you buy them. One manner to suggest is that the vape "has" worked for you. Add up what you'll be spending in cigs and try to convince her that getting a decent unit will work. When I got better gear is when I knew I had the analogs beat. (for me is was an iStick and the Aspire Nautilus Mini, but there are 100 more options to consider.)

People have successfully quit the analogs on the gear you now use. If you're still craving a cig then you might consider upping the nic level in your juice.

I used to smoke a pack of Camel Wides every day,and have had similar thoughts about the nic level in my juice. I just don't think that's the culprit. I tried the exact same juice (18mg Nicoticket Doodle) in a friend's setup and the effect could not have been more different - that is, huge billowy clouds of satisfaction vs. an imploded eyeball & a wispy whimpering stream that left me in need of a good wall. Now, I'm not silly enough to think my ebayed bits will amount to the same experience as his clicky-clicky LED jobby-job... but I'd like to think I can get a bit closer. I'm mainly wondering if it's the tank or the battery I should try to upgrade.
BUT - you're absolutely right about the budget aspect; there was a time not so long ago when if forced to choose, I would have chosen a pack of stogs over... pretty much anything.

You're going to have to upgrade both. First, the tank you have is a nice starter tank. "starter" The battery you're using is also a "starter". Not enough mah (battery life is measured in mah, as in how long before recharge) to support much more of a tank than you have. Clouds, and volume of vape are important to most vapers, it's where we find the satisfaction.

I'm listing some options for you to consider :
http://www.vapesupersaver.com/eleaf-istick-tc40w-only-29-99-with-free-shipping/ 2600 mah You would still need a better tank and I would recommend the Kanger Subtank Mini for this unit. You don't need to learn or run the temp control with this mod (battery), you can just run it in VV/VW (variable voltage/variable wattage). This unit has an internal battery you charge with a usb cable. The tank you have will work with any of these units.

http://www.vapesupersaver.com/subox-mini-starter-kit-56-99-with-free-shipping/ This very popular mod (battery) and tank (Subtank Mini) combo uses a replaceable battery. It's nice to just swap out a battery when the one inside needs recharged. You would also need an independent battery charger as charging in the unit is not recommended. The Nitecore i2 is about $15 online and does fine. Xtar is another reputable brand.

http://www.vapesupersaver.com/subox...8650-battery-and-a-5-pack-of-colored-o-rings/ This is similar to the above unit. But with any tank you will need spare coils.

http://www.myvaporstore.com/Joyetech-eVic-VT-Temp-Control-Starter-Kit-p/joye-vtk.htm This set has internal batteries 5000 mah (usb charge) and is temp control should you desire to use it.

http://www.myvaporstore.com/Innokin-iTaste-MVP-3-0-Pro-Starter-kit-p/ink-mvp3pa.htm 4500 mah internal battery, well built but really square.

I am certain there are many more but unless you have a budget it's difficult to recommend a specific unit. I am partial to the Kanger Subtank Mini tanks, as you can get factory coils or build your own with them. Everyone sells them or parts too.

Wow - really. Thanks for that posting, which is arguably the most useful and comprehensive direct-response I've ever gotten online. I have now moooved from kvetching to research & strategy - so, thanks for that too :)

I should also mention you will need juice with less nicotine should you upgrade from the tank you have. The rule of thumb is the better the delivery device, the more juice consumed and the more nicotine ingested. If you go sub ohm (as some of the tanks are .5 ohm coils) you would probably need to cut your juice down to 9mg or 6mg as a start. What some people do is order the same juice in a zero nic and mixed equally with 18 mg juice will cut the nicotine in half to 9 mg.

Another option is to buy lower nic juice, and keep using the 18 mg juice in the tank you have with the new mod until it is all used up. Youll just have to turn the power down to use the old tank, and up again for the new tank to work.

Here is another option that uses replaceable batteries https://originvape.com/product/evic-vt-mod/

and another that will need a tank https://originvape.com/product/ipv-d2-mod/

I like your last two suggestions. Perfect for the beginner.

1. The Joyetech Evic Vt Available for $55.00
2. The Itaste Mvp3 available for around $65.00
Both have batteries built in so you save the cost of batteries and Charger.'

So first month spend the $70.00 or so for a kit.. Then month 2 you upgrade the tank.
Easier to sneak by Wifey.

Want a fantastic full size tank then purchase a Crown Tank http://www.angelcigs.com/authentic-uwell-crown-sub-ohmtank-top-filling-bottom-filling.html
for $26.00. Has stellar reviews. I own one and am very happy.

Or for smaller check out the Tobeco SuperTank Mini for $20.00 http://www.angelcigs.com/authentic-tobeco-mini-supertank-sub-ohm-tank-silver.html

Do your own research look up these models on youtube and watch the reviews.
For a beginner I'm biased towards the Mvp3 Pro. I have the MVP v1 and within the parameters of it's design. Very happy with it. It's my back up APV.
Much simpler controls. On the other side of the coin the VT does do TC but may be more prone to glitches.
