I thought I would share my trip to the doctors office with you.

Background: 40 year smoker, 3 packs a day. Had been cigarette free about 90 days.

I had my yearly check-up a couple of days ago and decided to take my daily carry setup (sigelei 20W + kayfun) in with me since this is the big change in my lifestyle.
When the nurse was done taking vitals (blood oxygen level 97%) the doctor came in and started discussing and asking questions about the vapor and this contraption. Up to this point he had only seen a couple of cigalikes and ego starters and the users didn't have much information other than they were able to switch.
After a 15 -20 min. discussion on equipment, usage and DIY liquid followed by a practical demonstration, I was asked how long I thought I would be on vapor. I could only answer "I don't know but if I spend the next 20 years on vapor its better than 20 more years of cigarettes"
In conclusion, my chest sounded clear, oxygen level is up and my doctor is a very big supporter of vapor, congratulating the wife and I on our way out.:)

Congrats to both of you! Similar story here. 2+ packs a day for over 30 years, heart attack, stent, bypass. Been analog free now for over 2 years. My cardiologist says my lungs are clearer now & he has no problems with vaping at all.

Very much like my experience with my sawbones. Mine has gone as far as visiting the local B&M to hear what others are saying. He's very interested in how it works and how it's allowed a 25 year 2.5 PAD smoker to quit rather quickly. Once I told him what was in the juice versus what was in the prescribed nicotine inhaler, he was rather impressed that the juice has less in it.

We need to educate more in the medical field if we expect this to be more than a passing fad.

I smoked 2-3 packs of Marlboro Reds for 30+ years. A few months after I had quit I saw my doctor. Brought in my Silver Bullet. He knew what vaping was already. He said he would MUCH rather me vaping than smoking cig's. So I think doctors are slowly learning about people quitting cig's for vapor, and considering it alot safer for your body than cig's.

It's funny how doctors (M.D.) think it's great, but researchers think it's dangerous and needs more research (money)

The researchers are going to support whatever findings those who pay their bills want them to find. They are clever too, they will come just SHY of supporting the persons/groups agenda, just so they can get MORE funding to do MORE "research". Once their pockets are fat enough, and they milked it for all they can, they'll cite their findings and move on to "researching" something else.

Let the real evidence speak for itself. Everyone ex-smoker I know who has gone to the doctor and had tests run, has been pleasantly surprised at the results. Like the OP mentioned, oxygen will be up, chest more clear, etc.

I suggest anyone getting a check up who was a smoker to do the same the OP did.....spread the word by making your switch known to your doctor....once enough doctors see the benefits, they will gladly support the cause.

I don't think you can make blanket statements like that. Its too ..... cynical.

Dr. Farsalinos is both an M.D. and a researcher, and he has helped vaping and vapers with his research

And presumably you charged the Doctor $50 on your way out for educating him, rather than the usual scenario where they nag about diet and charge you?

T

Both my doctor's parents died of lung cancer, they chain smoked for 50+ years.

Yet, he has never once nagged me about smoking when I was smoking......said he would give me the best advice, but that I was an adult who could make my own decisions, and he was going to respect that.

Unfortunately, he died of skin cancer, and worked right up until 2 weeks before he went home to die. They don't make 'em like him anymore.

but all the doctors I have now treat me respectfully, and not like a child. If they did, I wouldn't be their patient. :)

Very similar story with my doctor. He was even happier to hear that I dropped from 12mg nic to 6mg in just a month after quitting smoking. Not sure if I'll drop lower anytime soon, but I know I will eventually. What I love about vaping is being able to go at my own pace, and having so many options available.

Congrats on the positive checkup, love to hear stories like this!

I have to stay with my doctor - she's the only one that hasn't died from sunbathing, smoking or alcohol abuse. She can live vicariously thru me.

My jab was about the miserable charges imposed for trivial visits. There is not a person here that has totally stopped using cigarettes as a result of vaping, that does not breathe better, smell things again (good and bad) , and have a new vitality to them.

The OP and Racehorse are fortunate to have such enlightened medical attention. The last time i wore out the physiotherapist at hospital trying to walk and keep up alongside me, she was telling me how i'd swapped one addiction for another and how it wasn't really quitting.

I'm happy for you....congrats on your jounrney so far.

I was quite disappointed by my exam recently....7 months of cigs and all my vitals were perfect....I lost more weight, stopped smoking and all he could do was keep writing when I told him I'm vaping....did not even look up...told me if anyone still smokes on the house to tell them to quit and not smoke in my house....bast ard.....

I quit for me not him but still... but happy..:D

I am currently getting rid of one of my medical people...besides several other recent serious problems, when I mentioned vaping she said: "people put he***n (think highly addictive illegal substance) in those things!" I was more than just a little offended.

You guys are lucky in your medical providers!
