Kinda bummed. I had my annual physical yesterday and was so happy to tell my doctor that I had quit analogs 2 months and was now vaping! I've smoked since I was 18, I'm now 43. For the last 10 years or so I was smoking about a pack and a half a day.
Her response? She shook her head and said she thought vaping was WORSE than smoking.
Ever see who your doctors get their info from? Know anyone with asthma that takes advair? want to know why it's so popular? Go to 2 minutes and 50 seconds into this video and start watching....

Nothing to do with the last video but if they say anything about propelyne glycol ask them why it's safe when they put it in asthma puffers but not a NRT?

I agree with "find another doctor". My doctor is 63, has been treating me for asthma for 18 yrs, and learned about 17 yrs ago that badgering me about smoking was a total waste of time, so he would just ask me how much i smoked, write it down, and then counsel me to try and cut down as much as I could.

When I mentioned in 2014 that I was thinking of trying e-cigs, he strongly approved and urged me to give it a try. When I came back 10 months later with over 4 months of smoke-free under my belt, he was flabbergasted, and eager to hear all about it. Finally he said, "I don't know much about them, but I'm trying to learn. Because ANYTHING is better than smoking." He's an internist with a mostly geriatric practice, and many of them are smokers who come in wearing oxygen tanks -- he knows exactly what he's talking about -- ANYTHING is better than smoking. Any doctor who doesn't see that, doesn't deserve to be a doctor.

Most likely, she is a GP (General Practitioner). They are not specialists in any one discipline.

With all the FUD (Fear Uncertainty and Doubt) being spread around, it's very possible that she read one or two slanted articles that stuck with her.

And here I thought FUD always meand {moderated} Up Data. Learn something new every day.

(Mods, I think the way I censored it is ok for the forum. If not, please correct it for me and let me know so I can be aware that posting it that way is not acceptable. Thanks.)

Obviously your doctor needs some education. There are reports all over. Even the British health has reported that vaping is harm reduction. Find those and print the urls so she can read this studies with her own eyes. The big one that grabs people when they tell me that vaping is just as bad I say

"I have tried EVERYTHING to stop smoking cigalikes, gum, patches, cold turkey, and even hypnosis. Furthermore how can vapor with four chemicals be as bad as cigarettes that have 4-7 thousand chemicals. I started vaping at 18 mg. By making my own ejuice I have weaned myself down to 1 mg of nicotine, and hope to go 0 nic around Christmas."

You need a new doctor, I'm thinking. Nobody actually knows about the long term effects of vaping, but the idea it could be worse than smoking staggers the imagination.

Hear hear Trucker. The OP definitely needs another doctor or at least another opinion.

When I was in this summer for a shoulder issue, my doctor asked me if I was still smoking. I told him I'd been vaping for about 10 months. He said he didn't know much about vaping but it had to be better than smoking. He then put me down in my records as "former smoker". No mention of the vaping in the records at all.

My doc has done the exact same thing. Says the lungs sound great! Going on close to three years of only vaping now, and it's fantastic to be able to breathe, taste, and smell again. OP, I would suggest trying to have an education discussion with your doc, and if/when that fails, find a new doc.

Frankly I dont believe them totally. I havent seen one for myself since 1974. (Which was a folly of another ignorant doc, compelled me to go to my childhood doctor)
They had stethoscopes and manual blood pressure machines. They now have same. even dont go to automatic ones instead. No more development since the tribe witch.
They are mostly trading people. They become so. I apologize all the ones who does his/her job for the sake of humanity.
Government began to pay for ill people who goes to private clinics. They began to build skyscrapers out of their former rented house clinics.
When they perform your health business for money I would not be surprised if they are tipped by big tobacco or big medicine.

Screw her.. Most doctors side with the tobacco companies anyway by offering you their proven ways of quitting (like patches which are dangerous..)

They don't know squat and should learn should like our govs.

My dentist said the same thing, saying vaping wouldn't help my teeth. I quit smoking approx. 3 months ago and my teeth have way less tartar and
are more white all around.. Screw them :p lol

When a doctor prescribed me something that ended with -cillin.... despite the BIG RED NO PENICILLIN on my chart... I lost all faith in any doctor for anything.

Thank god I always read my prescriptions and called him rather than get it filled or (god help me) take it.

I am the same boat except that I don't bother saying that I am vaping...
- "Do you smoke?" he asks
- "Not anymore" I respond...
-"Do you exercise?"
-"Ye running 5 miles a day and occasionally swimming 700 yard". I proudly answer.
- "Your lung are clear" He conclude.
I just contemplate the results of my x-rays and other tests with satisfaction. It seems that the medical community, as often, needs to be educated. If you have the opportunity you may share this paper with her What to Advise to Respiratory Patients Intending to Use Electronic Cigarettes - Riccardo Polosa - Discovery Medicine. She may change her mind!

What I learn with too much time at doctors offices and hospitals for several health issues that I've been through over my short life, is to point them in the right direction, and most importantly, doing heavy home work before the visit. When possible... Often, I can have them prescribing me the tests that I need without directly telling them what to do... I found also that it is important to be gently pushy for them to go further than the usual. 4 years ago, I was almost sent back home with an antibiotic prescription for pneumonia... I insisted to push for further scan and to have the doctor in charge to check the results! I had a stage 1b lung cancer removed 2 weeks later. That's a pretty early stage! 42 years was a bit young for such a diagnostic, plus I wasn't such a heavy smoker and pretty athletic but combined with type 1 diabetes, many cancer cases in the family, 13 years in asbestos, occasional radioactive compounds handling for over a decade, too many x-rays, immuno-suppressive therapy, and living in polluted cities the odds were pretty high and I was the only one knowing that at that time. Connecting all these dots in one visit can be challenging to make the right decisions timely, even for a trained doctor. Doctors often do mistakes, have prejudices and need to be educated on many topics including many in the medical field but they also need the right information to perform properly. I trust them in their field of expertise, but not any further... And yes! Scrutinizing prescriptions, medicine compositions and side effects is a must nowadays. I had benzodiazepine prescribed for sleeping issues... Melatonine was just fine... I have to admit that, Doctors saved my life many times to date! Vaping is just not worse to mention right now. But that may change.
