Greetings!

Been smoking analog cigs for 36 years; mostly light/ultralight; close to 2 packs a day unless I'm spending time in places where I can't smoke, and that's relatively rare. I've only made one serious effort to quit a bunch of years ago using patches and it didn't last much more than a week. I did find that using nicotine gum in those few places where I couldn't smoke for extended periods (airplanes, trade-show halls, etc) took the edge off, but it it didn't make me not want a cigarette as soon as I could possibly have one.

Recently I've met run into a few people who had switched to vaping so I started googling "e-cigs" and a few similar terms. I almost made the mistake of buying the most widely known/advertised cig-a-like kit, but a bit more reading convinced me that was not the way to to go. Instead I ordered up a Halo Triton starter kit, which showed up at my office yesterday just before we all went to lunch. I opened it up, stuck a battery in the charger and went to lunch. When I we got back, I was determined not to have an analog, so I filled up a tank with one of the juices in the tobacco-flavored sample pack (Tribeca) and started puffing on it. Well, it takes some getting used to, but the bottom line is, I didn't have an analog until after 6:00pm, and I wasn't miserable or cranky (which I surely would have been without nicotine). I think I had two more analogs over the course of the evening. When I woke up this morning, I started puffing on my Triton instead of having an analog first thing and it was OK, but not entirely satisfying, so I did end up having two more analogs before noon, but much to my surprise, I haven't had any in the 6+ hours since then and don't really want one now.

This morning I filled up my spare tank with a different flavor, figuring I should try some of the others. I picked Turkish Tobacco more-or-less at random. I decided I like it much better than Tribeca, so the remainder of the Tribeca in the first tank got rinsed out, the tank dried, and re-filled with Midnight Apple. OK, I like it better than Tribeca, but not as much as Turkish, so that tank got rinsed and is drying again, getting ready to try another flavor from the sample pack. In the meanwhile, I've ordered another tank, the 900 mAh VV battery (I made the mistake of ordering the 400s with the starter kit) and a 30 ml bottle of Turkish, because I'm HOOKED and I don't wanna run out! :D

Am I really off analogs this quick? Too soon to be sure. I've had 5 or 6 in the last 30+ hours, and none in the last 6+. That's close to 90% fewer that I would have normally have had. I'm not forbidding myself from having one if I really want it -- I suspect that's psychologically important because we tend to want that which we cannot have even more.

OK after all that, I do have a dumb n00b question: Is there some level (short of empty) at which the Triton tanks should be refilled? I know not to fill them completely full, so I only go about 90%. How low can they be allowed to go before refilling them?

Oh, and why the heck doesn't Halo make a bloody clip (like you'd find on a pen) to keep these things from falling out of your shirt pocket?

Well welcome my friend. Important part is not how many you smoked, what is importnt how many you didnt. Yes it is that easy. What is more your cigarettes will not be that good when you tasted them a few days later.
Happy vapings

I cant help you about your questions because I dont know them but I am sure there are a lot of people here who will

Hey Rossum, glad to see you making the switch

I also did 36 years of 1.5 PAD and decided at the checkout at Walmart to try an ecig set instead of a carton of cigs, the big thing with me though was that I did not have any analogs to fall back on and to this day have not smoked an analog.

My advice is to not get too excited about finding a flavor that tastes just like a cigarette. You are changing to a less hazardous way to get nicotine so there will be some differences (like switching from regular coke to diet coke).

Halo makes an excellent product but it is not compatible with most of the accessories out there (Halo uses 808 threads and the industry standard now is 510 with ego a close second) - This strategy kind of locks you into ordering from them for tanks, etc.

as far as the pocket clip goes there are some clearo's (similar to your triton tank) that have covers with pocket clips out there but they are not real common. I personally use a Vamo most of the time that was originally jokingly called the light saber (it is about the tallest AVP out there) so there is no keeping it in a shirt pocket at all

Good luck again and welcome to the ECF

I'm not not necessarily looking for something that tastes just like a cigarette, just just something I like the taste of.

I just filled my second tank with Torque 56.. Pretty good, but maybe a bit on the strong side; not sure yet.

Understood. To me that's an acceptable trade-off to get American stuff.

That's amusing 'cause the Triton tank with 400 mAh battery only sticks out of my shirt pocket about 1/4". Did I mention that if I were to do it over, I'd have ordered the 650 mAh batteries? :D

Hello and welcome! Rossum & AmandaD! I am a dyed in the wool Halo user. When you make 5 posts, you can then scroll down the ECF forum site and go to the Halo sub forum. Lots of good info to learn, and the people are really a lot of fun. Some don't like Halo because of it's relative exclusivity, but for just getting started, it's a great quality place to start. Amanda D, there are lanyards on Halo's website, and other things you can use, like a carrying case. Please come join us!

Welcome! My triton setup arrived today (upgrade from the V2) .....I'm afraid to put in the back pocket of my jeans lest I sit on it and press the button! So, I've been stuffing it in my bra...I need to find a better solution :p
Why not turn the battery off before putting in your pocket? Takes about 2 seconds (5 quick presses of the button).

hello and welcome, that sounded really awesome how you were able to stop the chain of analogs so 'easy' haha
Well, not as easy as it seemed last night. Woke up this morning, puffed away at my Triton. Better than no nic? Yeah, absolutely -- not climbing the walls, but not entirely satisfying either, and I found myself taking a puff or two every minute or two. So I finally broke down and had one analog. Unlike last night, I enjoyed that one, and it removed the urge to puff anything at all for a while. So either I'm not getting as much nic from the Triton as from an analog, or the pure nic in the juice is missing something. The analogs I've been smoking for the last few years are Camel Turkish Silvers, which I'd put somewhere between "light" and "ultra light". I don't inhale them particularly deeply, and the juices I'm using are all 18mg. So I'm thinking it's the latter; vapor is missing something. I'm tempted to order up some WTA juice to see if that fixes the "something's missing" feeling.

OK, I had a another half a stinky today for a total of 1.5. Looking at the bright side, that's roughly 38.5 I did NOT have, and the 4+ packs I have left are gonna last a long, long time. :D

However, there's definitely something going on when I light a stinky that isn't there when I'm vaping. I can literally feel it moving through my bloodstream after one or two puffs on the stinky. Maybe that's just the carbon monoxide my body is no longer used to? But there's definitely more to it in terms of how my head feels as well. I've ordered up some of WholeCig's unflavored WTA liquid to find out if those other alkaloids are indeed what's missing for me...

So far so good, Rossum! The nice thing about vaping, is you can go up or down in nic without losing the flavor! It is okay if you chain vape at first. Drink water, and watch out for headaches and nausea. If that happens, you vape too much. But think of this, is one analog enough sometimes? How many times did you smoke one, and have the urge to light another in your time smoking?
