For me so far, it's not a question of wanting to chain-vape; I don't. I'll take a few puffs and put it down, but I do that more often than I used to light up an analog. The difference is sorta interesting because picking up the PVD and having a few puffs is less of a time commitment than lighting a stinky; those had gotten way too expensive to light and then let burn out in the ashtray, so once I lit one, I was almost always committed to smoking the whole thing. I never really chain-smoked either; there was a always a break between cigs.

What's happening to me now -- and it's worst somewhere in the mid-morning -- I'll be vaping and it just doesn't satisfy; there will be a craving for a stinky, and having one (or even half of one) will satisfy that craving for a good long time.

I really do need to keep my thinking positive here. I went into this deciding I wasn't going make myself miserable. I'm actually pleasantly surprised how much it's allowed me to cut back on the stinkies. I really wasn't expecting to be down to around 2 a day (from 40 or so!) this fast.

For what it's worth, I've been reading this forum for information ever since my last Analog on October 3rd..... And when I say reading, I don't mean occasionally, I'm talking at least ONE Google search per day brings me here, and then 5 different posts, and countless pages later I'm not only leaving with the information I needed, but also looking for a new juice, mod or tank!!!

I decided to join tonight and stop the lurking , and am making my first post here to say that I'm proud of you sir! I was right where you were almost 10 weeks ago, and one day.... I just didn't smoke an Analog. The advice about focusing on the one you don't smoke, vs the ones you do is spot on. I was just over a PAD, and honestly loved the act of smoking... As I begun to transition away I would take my Twist outside with me while I smoked, and basically use both. It only took a couple of days before the taste, smell and sensation of an Analog PAILED in comparison to my Vape experience.... And I haven't lit another since.... And truly do not miss it.

From one new member to another, congrats and hang in there... Once you find your ADV (all day vape) it gets to be more of a joy NOT smoking than you ever though possible.

Post #22 Rossum, Don't beat yourself up. I smoked anything that came with a filter, and was on sale. Heck, there were quite a few times I resorted to cans of Top, and could care less. I think that is how vaping came easy to me. It was just something else to puff on. I could see where someone who was partial to a certain brand of smokes would have problems vaping. At first, I stayed away from tobacco flavors. I vaped a fruit, candy, or coffee flavor. Now I can do a flavored tobacco like white chocolate, peach, apple, honey, or orange. I pretty much trained my taste buds away from tobacco smoke, then reintroduced tobacco flavored vape. Give it time, and if you want off the smokes, than try for a day cold turkey. You might surprise yourself.

Yeah, I was extremely partial -- I'd be downright grumpy if the local stores didn't have my normal ones. I ended up getting the managers of a couple of local stores trained to keep "mine" in stock for me despite the fact that they weren't the most popular variety.

Based on this, I was more-or-less expecting to find one vape flavor that that I'd settle on as "mine". So far, that hasn't happened. Right now I'm back and forth between Halo's Torque (mildly diluted) and Longhorn. In fact, I'm wishing I had more tanks so I could have more varieties "at hand" -- but they're on order and should be here mid-week. :D

You're hanging in there, and that's the important part. It took me the better part of 6 months to settle in on a flavor I like. Keep in mind that your taste buds will likely change too. Stuff I used to hate, is now some of my favorite. So don't throw anything out prematurely. I only vape the tobacco flavored stuff now, as I think I burnt myself out on the sweet stuff.

BTW, 1.5 cigs is awesome, 38.5 not smoked. Quite an accomplishment!

Update: Just after lunch, one week ago today, I took my first draw of vape. My analog use dropped precipitously. Friday afternoon/evening 3. Saturday, 2 or 3. Sunday 2. Monday 1. Tuesday 1. Wednesday 0. Thursday 0. Today 0. I don't even want those stinky things anymore, but I'm HOOKED ON VAPING!

In fact it's like a whole new hobby. All sorts of neat gear and a zillion flavors to be sampled. Today's new flavor was Halo Belgian Cocoa. Yum! I've sent a starter kit and a bunch of trial-sized bottles of liquid to an out-of-town friend. I gave another local friend a battery and a full tank. I told both of 'em: "No obligation, but try this, you just might like it!". This weekend, I'm going to build a quick & dirty rack/stand for my PVDs and tanks -- just some holes in a block of wood, but laying the PVDs or tanks with juice in them down simply doesn't feel right. I'm also debating which of two vape shops to visit; one I've been to already (they were great!) or another that seems worth checking out. Trouble is they're both half an hour away and in different directions. If I didn't already own a business, I'd seriously be thinking about opening a shop here. :D

In any case, I'd like to thank everyone who posted in this thread for the warm welcome and the words of encouragement ya'll provided. If you had told me two weeks ago that I'd be cigarette free today (and without once having been miserable!) I'd have told you're nuts; that's inconceivable. Yet somehow it happened!

Update: Today marks two weeks analog-free.

But I'm obsessed with my new hobby! Don't ask me how much I've spent on juice and gear. It's a lot, but I don't care, and no, I'm not done! My wife (who has never smoked, but has put up with me doing so for more than 30 years) has given me Carte Blanche: "Buy anything you want, buy two or three of each; if it keeps you off cigs, it's priceless!" Yes, I married well! :D

I've only had one mildly negative side-effect. Let me try to put this delicately: Food doesn't seem to move through the last stage of my digestive system as well as it used to. I understand that's not unusual. I wonder what the heck it was in cigs that kept things moving? I'm confident it wasn't the nicotine; 'cause I'm getting plenty of that. Hopefully, things will get back to normal at some point as my body adjusts.

Today I'm at 60 days. It seems like it's been much longer than that. In fact, it feels totally normal now and I can't imagine ever actually smoking cigarettes again. The side effect I mentioned above eventually passed (pun intended). My wife says I look 5 years younger. I feel 10 years younger. And I'm having a blast with my new hobby. I've learned to build my own coils and wick them with cotton. I've learned that some juices I liked early on no longer appeal to me at all and some juices I didn't like at first have turned into favorites. Conversely, there some juices that I've liked all along, and some that I'm not sure I ever will.

Right now, there's only one downside: I've easily spent twince as much on vape gear and juice as I would have spent on premium, brand-name traditional cigs in the last month. But I'm not missing any meals or behind on my mortgage because if it, so.. :vapor:

I fell off the wagon today.

I ran into someone I hadn't seen in a bunch of years who's still smoking, so I went outside and had one of his "light tobacco" home-mades with him. It was less unpleasant than I was expecting. In fact, I made it most of the way though it, but toward the end I could feel it starting to do nasty things to the tops of my lungs. Not long after, I happily returned to vaping. I may be an incorrigible nicotine addict, but I'm a vaper now, not a smoker.

In order to atone for this sin, I got another person started vaping today. She and her husband had quit for a number of years but fell off the wagon when he got laid off from his job last summer. I lent her 2 Halo spinners, 4 Triton tanks, some extra heads and a selection of juice. I showed her how to use the stuff, and told her: Don't try to quit smoking, just see how many cigs you can not have if you do this instead; if the number is substantial, I'll set you up with some better gear; don't buy anything without talking to me first.

I don't think this will get you kicked out of the club. Let's call it a learning experience. You just taught me to be careful around old friends who still smoke. I can totally understand your impulse to join in. You and I started this about the same time, and I think I may still be in the honeymoon phase, but it's sure better than the "smoking phase" I was in for over 40 years!

And good for you for spreading the word to your friends and setting them up.:)

Maybe you need to try a higher nicotine vape? I smoked almost 2 packs a day of lights and started at 12 mg, but I have some 18 mg too that are my "just in case" vapes. I am home all day, so vape at will and so far have not felt the need for a cig, but when that urge hits, maybe an increase in nic is the answer. Or maybe try a different flavor--I love Kringle's Curse from Halo and although it it is not a tobacco flavor, somehow it does make the hit I need. As everyone says here, count the cigs you don't smoke not the ones you do. Keep on keepin' on. You will do fine. :toast:

You are changing to a less hazardous way to get nicotine so there will be some differences (like switching from regular coke to diet coke).

I think you just gave me my Ah-Ha moment. I quit drinking pepsi a year ago. I tried to switch to diet pepsi, but it just wasn't the same. So I switched to Diet Mountain Dew. I did it also for health reasons, I wanted to quit drinking my calories. So this is basically the same thing I am doing with the ecig, I am switching from "regular" to "diet". I had to switch it up a bit with the soda but once I found what worked for me I was able to switch entirely with no pain. I need to think about this in the same way!!! Congrats to the OP! Sorry, not trying to thread jack, just had to share my moment :)

Sorry, I may not have expressed myself well. I probably shouldn't have used the phrase "fell off the wagon". I didn't feel the "need" for a cig today, I was simply curious how I'd react to smoking one. My nic level is fine; I do mostly 15 mg, some 18 mg, and keep a few even higher WTA juices around for emergencies. :D

Anyway, I pretty well proved to myself that I'm no longer a smoker. Would I return to smoking if all the vape stuff in the world suddenly disappeared? Yeah, probably. But since that's not gonna happen, I'd rather vape than smoke.
