Hello gang, just wanted to introduce myself.

I've been smoking since about 13, so around 16 years now. It wasn't much of an issue to me until about 4 years ago, when I started to become more of a heavy smoker. I've really started to feel the toll on myself the past couple years and have tried a few different ways to quit... none successful.

I tried my first ecig about a year ago... couldn't tell you the brand... but i do remember it was "on sale" and didn't do much for me... maybe lasted 3 days, and then broke. I wasn't even upset about it because I had just about had it with that thing anyway.

I'm making a serious commitment to quitting "analogs" for several reasons. My daughter is getting old enough now to notice smoking and i don't want to contribute to that bad influence. Also, my wife to be is seriously on me and has even threatened to not buy a house with me if i continue smoking. (Ironically she and i used to spend entire weekends together smoking and drinking in college, and she just up and quit cold turkey one day.) And lastly, my mother, who is a stubborn, stubborn woman who has been smoking cheap menthols for probably 45-50 years finally has been diagnosed with emphysema... and she has made up her mind to keep smoking even if shes wheeling around with an oxygen tank and a menthol 100 in her mouth.

All that being said, Its time. I've been researching different types of ecigs based on my needs. I feel that the thing I would most need would be the throat hit to be strong. Based on some of the explanations posted here, I've decided to go with this. There doesn't seem to be too many gripes about this brand, and i've read in several places that this is a good choice if looking for throat hit.

I'd welcome some constructive criticism, or any suggestions. I'd also like any suggestions on which cartomizers to pick for my first 5. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome to ECF! Looks like you did some good research before getting started. V4L has a good reputation around here. The best suggestion that I could give is to keep coming back here when you have a question. ECF isn't your typical forum. You'll get quick and intelligent responses. Enjoy you new world of vaping!

Hi Scottie! Welcome to ECF! I really like V4L, and the kit you picked out looks great. I personally have gone with the XL battery because I like the long weight & feel - but many people like the short style because it's like a real cigs length. I smoked menthol B&H or Carltons which were longer so maybe that is why. Flavors are so subjective! I really don't like menthol flavors in my e-juices - but I do like food and beverage tasting ones like Pear cobbler & coffee.
I say just go for it and pick as many flavor'd cartomizer packs as you can afford so you can try them out! V4L will also toss a couple free samples in your package too. They're terrific folks!
I know what you're saying about your daughter...I smoked for 35 years... I remember the day I was getting something out of my 20 year old son's car and saw a pack of smokes. My stomach just dropped. I Really didn't want him copying this behaviour.
He is enjoying e-cigs occasionally now - so that is better. It's awful when you see your kids picking up your bad habits!
Best of Luck to you!!!

Like you mentioned, I too was completely ready to quit analogs for good and from the first day I received my 510 Riva I have not smoked one since. It can or will be very hard to make it through the first few weeks, depending on how many 'trigger' moments you have, make sure to read up on how to get your equipment ready for use and have a back-up during the early stages. If all my batteries, atomizers and liquid were to go bad, I could switch to nic-gum or snus much easier now than I could 2+ months ago when I had just quit smoking 25 analogs a day.
Good luck, you will thank yourself later.
