I am beginning to make my own juices, I have a sweet tobacco steeping now, well it smells sweet, white chocolate boysenberry with honey tobacco at a 6mg strength on the nic.

I dropped it into my dripper right after I made it, and it is good, so going to steep it for a few days and come back to it.

Question is, can I get some ideas as to everyones staple flavors, ones you keep on hand at all times, and flavors that you keep to add to recipes more often than not.
The most common adds to your main ingredients etc etc.

I am going to make an order to get these ingrediants on hand.

Nothing worse i would imagine to see a recipe and have everything you need except that one ingrediant and then need to wait a couple of days to make your batch.

And also would you suggest making 5-10 ml batches at first, to test and tweak?

The kit I got has the nic at 36% and 50/50.....Is this typical for most or do you all go with a higher %

As far as sweetener.....ethyl maltol, sucralose, or a sweeter flavor, like cotton candy or something like that

Thanks for all the help

Start with the fundamentals at first. Like 2% espresso. Then add 1-2% Bavarian cream. Or 2% menthol and another 2% Boston cream pie to take off the edge. Taste is very objective. When I 1st quit smoking even 20% juices tickled my sense of taste now after 3 months of vaping I can tell the difference between 1 or 2% cream

Some that are always kept on hand are Bavarian cream, sweet cream, vanilla swirl, vanilla custrad, whipped cream, marshmallow, caramel.Basically i keep all the creams well stocked, also cinnamon,i use that alot.
As for sweeteners, sucralose is a good one,but i would get it from a vape supply,as the grocerie store version may have other additives in it.Ethyl maltol and cotton candy are both the same thing, and arent really a sweetener.
And yes it sucks to find a recipe that sounds good, only to find you are missing 1 flavor.I have went through this several times haha.

Sounds yummy.

Coffee and chocolate are my staples. Everything's better with coffee and chocolate. I don't care what my coils or wicks or anyone says. Give me that dark and dirty Coffee and chocolate sweetness, thank you. (slurp, slurp) :p
This Caramel Machiaddo Latte that I DIY'd today is lovely. Drip,, drip.. :vapor:

Is it recommend to start a new batch if you feel you need to add...say a sweetener or another flavor, or can you add to that batch another % of what you feel it needs....

I just made a 15 ml batch of Kiwi Strawberry 13% with a white chocolate boysenberry....6.4% with ethyl maltose 5%, and although tasty, just seems a little flat.....Is this where the custards or whipped creams come in to enhance??

vg70 pg30 nic 3mg ..... I dripped it at .90 right after i made it.....maybe it does need to steep a bit?

One of my staples as of now is FlavourArt Fuji Apple -- one of my most used flavors, and by far my favorite apple. Start low with Fuji and don't let the mixes get too complicated to begin. Try it alone to see what it has to offer (try a few drops in a 5 mL before adding more or other flavors). Don't sweeten it until you have decided, based on trying it, how you would like to adjust it. Begin with ~2% Fuji and go from there -- but know that I don't recommend it over 4-5% as it reaches a point of diminishing returns.

I strongly recommend 5 mL batches for trying flavors and doing quick on-the-fly recipes (the ones that ain't complicated). The drop method will suit you just find just to try flavors -- shake-n-vape -- in a 5 mL.

Sweeteners (or liquids that are used as sweeteners like EM) are tricky and generally can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, they will definitely add sweetness, but they don't just sweeten; sweeteners will also change the flavor profile of a mix. If I need to see how exactly a recipe will react to sweetening, I'll make a large enough batch to divide into several 5 mL bottles, then I add varying drops of sweetener on top of those. More often than not, I find that the sweetener did not actually help to do something that a recipe adjustment couldn't solve, and if it does in fact work out right (tasty), which it sometimes does, I generally find sweetener to be best at the very low-end of the percentage spectrum. If you feel it works, but need to measure out really lightly -- like below-a-drop low -- just cut it in half, in thirds, in quarters, etc.

Example: if the sweetener (or any flavor) is too strong even at one drop (tiny percentage), just make a small batch of 1 mL sweetener + 1 mL PG and then add a drop/low percentage of that. You will have effectively cut a drop of sweetener in half. I sometimes will go as low as diluting down to 5% to add in at .5%, but those are flavors other than sweeteners and ones that can best be likened to chemical weapons! (See FA Perique Black to see what I mean! LOL)

FA has become 80% of my main flavors. ( I don't do tobaccos)
FA makes the most realistic fruits in my opinion. As mr Mann says, Fuji Apple is incredible As is white peach, and bilberry ( a European blueberry) and so on.

Must have FA includes cookie, apple pie ( use this at 2 % or under for great pie crusts ) Vienna cream and fresh cream ( I use these together a lot )

Caps has a handfull of must haves for me including vanilla custard version 2 and their sweet. Cream and strawberry sweet are excellent.

TFA , I now only use a handfull of flavors out of about 100 or so that I have, but there are must have additions such as brown sugar extra, cheese cake with graham cracker crust, AP, vanillin, Bavarian cream is also very usefull. TFA cranberry and pineapple are very good as well. Their strawberry tastes like pez candy and the banana tastes like runts candy.

TFA used very high percentages of flavoring for many of their flavors ( up to 12 and 15%) but not all of their flavorings.....,where as FA only takes 1 to 4% In
Most cases .,,, caps takes medium high percentages as well.

There is more to this than meets the eye.

I don't really know why I started this post because the more I think about it, each company have certain things that are worth getting but it takes time and a lot if mixing experience to figure out exactly what you need for a particular recipie.

If I were you, I would choose a few recipies that are tried and true that many seem to enjoy and order those flavorings and learn each individual flavor as you mix those recipies.

It can be a long journey .,,,,, good luck with it,

Yeah, I deleted half of my original post as it got too long and wonky -- so I figured I would just say one flavor as that may be easier to remember. There are so many things to say regarding flavors, but the best advice I was ever told was to buy a bleep load and sample (no one can know our taster like us, so reviews aren't always going to tell the story like trying it, but I read as many as possible to try and get a consensus). Some good places to buy myriad flavors at good prices are Wizardlabs (love the vials!), Eliquidmart (great 5 mL prices and a really good assortment), Bullcityvapor (great resource for those concerned about diketones) and Purevapes.

One flavor from Capella I like a lot is Simply Vanilla. It will add sweetness, a bit of creaminess and a softening of edges to a mix; and if you don't mind a little diketones every now and again, it is (from my whiffer and taster), quite light on the diketones -- but it does have 'em. If you like heavy buttery flavors, Capella got that in spades! They are doing v2s now without diketones, but I think I fell back into wonk-land. Sorry.

p.s. FA Cookie is totally a must have.

Fresh Cream from Flavour Art (best cream for fruits or a whipped cream kind of flavor, 2%)
Vienna Cream from Flavour Art (best cream for desert blends, 2%)
Juicy Peach from Perfumer's Apprentice (best peach I've found, 5%)
Strawberry Ripe from Perfumer's Apprentice (best strawberry, 5% Capella Sweet Strawberry is also very good)
Vanilla Swirl from Perfumer's Apprentice ( best vanilla with no butter note, 1-5%)
Best Tobaccos in general I found from Vaping Zone, Super Concentrated line. Parliament, specifically, is great for a plain tobacco with no extra flavors or sweetness.
Cookie from Flavour Art (great to add a cookie or cake note 1-2%)

Honorable Mention (it's not a "staple" but a really good flavor, IMO) Black Currant from Perfumer's Apprentice... It's a strange but awesome flavor. Pomegranate Extra from Perfumer's Apprentice is also really good.

As you can probably tell, I'm a big Flavour Art and Perfumer's Apprentice fan. Flavour Art has been by far the most consistent brand for me in anything but tobaccos. I do NOT like their tobaccos.
Perfumer's Apprentice has excellent flavors but many flavors that, to me, are not so good. It's hit and miss.
I do not like Lorann's. Flavor West is overall too perfumey and requires too much product to be decent a.k.a. it's weak. Capella is another one that requires a lot of product but their flavors are good overall.

and LoL regarding Perique Black. I thought that stuff was horrendous.

Have you tried Strawberry Ripe from TFA? I agree that I didn't care for their regular strawberry (tasted like Chapstick) but the Strawberry Ripe is very nice and IMO comparable to Capella's Sweet Strawberry except less sweet. Just something to keep in mind.
I love FA as well. I haven't tried the Fuji or White Peach yet. I bought a TON of little 3ml sample flavors off of a friend who decided DIY was too complicated so I still have flavors I haven't even tried yet but I have both of those. In case you don't know (or whoever) Pure Vapes sells tiny little bottles of Flavour Art flavors so you can try them out before committing a large bottle of something you may not like. (something I have done many times)

Ha! Yeah, I realized last night that I was wrong in what I said (after I checked some notes), I went all the way down and used it at 1% in a dilution of PG only to be added into an eliquid at .5%). Result: strong, but actually a good starting point for a fruit tobacco. Perique Black is a great flavor, but you have to treat it like it's dangerous. LOL

I am thinking I am going to stay with Eliquidmart for samples now. I do like PureVapes, but for .20 more per sample bottle I can get 2 mL more (ELM has 5 mL bottles for $1.69). They're both great sites though. Oh, and Eliquidmart also has Capella. In the end, I still will find reasons to use ECX, WL, PV, BCV, ELM, MFS and VT. (Acronym crazy over here!)

Hazelnut:
Primarily use to go with almost any tobacco ( careful it can easily overwhelm other flavors), but many dessert vapes as well as vaping solo.

TFA's A semi-sweet, warm and mellow flavor with a candied note.
FW's A raw, green, tart and authentic flavor.

Mix them both together for a well rounded hazelnut flavor.
