DIY Ingredients. Help the noob! :D

I'm new to DIY and trying to find accurate information about ingredients. I know some sites (such as TFA) cannot claim that their flavors are safe for inhalation, but I'm sure a lot of you have used many of their flavors in your DIY experiments.

I just have a few questions

1. Have any of you had problems with using flavors that include Ethyl Alcohol, triacetin, etc. Do some companies often use these ingredients but just write off the ingredient on the labels as natural and artificial flavorings?

2. How important is using sweetener to bring out flavors. Are the flavors not sweet at all without it, or is it just strictly used for adding sweetness?

3. How do the flavorings you use that include more than just pg, nat, and art flavorings (such as ethyl alc, and triacetin) affect your calculations? I see most calculators let you add flavors and wether or not it is in pg, vg, alc, water or other. But if each flavor you add to the calculator only lets you choose one but your flavoring includes all of them, how do you know what to choose or what percentage of which ingredient is in the flavoring itself? If i wanted my overall mix to be 50/50 and say the flavor i use is pg, and ethyl alc. but i chose pg as the carrier at 20% flavoring wouldn't that not be a true 50/50 mix because the ethyl alc is taking up some of that percentage?
