I have been reading a lot of posts and a lot of noobs like myself are trying to find the perfect vape to get us off of the analogs (I am down to about 3 sometimes 5 a day), but I have been smoking for 44 years. I do not have taste buds anymore or at least not in the real sense of taste buds.

I have to continually swap all day long to be able to taste what I am vaping. After about an hour I seem to lose the flavor, but if I change what I am vaping I taste it again at least for a while. I have come up with about 5 mixes through experimentation - does everyone else have this problem? I am assuming this is due to my damaged taste buds from smoking analogs for so long. I have read that your taste buds will come back over time.

My questions are - How long does that normally take on average for your taste buds to return? Will they really come back to normal or something in the middle? And, will I still like what I have been mixing once they do come back?

I am actually wondering what it will all taste like when my taste buds do return...:vapor:

I have been reading a lot of posts and a lot of noobs like myself are trying to find the perfect vape to get us off of the analogs (I am down to about 3 sometimes 5 a day), but I have been smoking for 44 years.

I smoked heavy for 30+ years. Like you, when I got my PV, I cut massively down, but had trouble getting rid of the last few cigs. Mostly I'd get cravings right after I ate. I was fine vaping in the morning, and vaping while drinking, and vaping after sex - but after I would eat, vaping wouldn't do it, and I'd need a cig.

I was using 24mg juice. I got some 30mg juice and an atomizer/drip tip. Dripping the 30mg juice when I would have a craving did the job. I still use the 24mg as my "all day", but after I eat, I'll use the 30mg to deal with cravings.

I've been doing that just over 2 weeks, and haven't had a cig in that time. All I needed to do to quit was up the nicotine level a bit. You might try something similar.

I've no idea about taste buds coming back. I suspect I haven't been a non smoker long enough to get there. I am starting to notice smells that I'm sure I wouldn't have noticed before. Sometimes that's a good thing - sometimes it isn't. :)

I also smoked 40 years. been vaping 9 months. I still don't have my tastebuds back. actually in a way I am glad or I think I would be really fat instead of just fat  I also still smoke 2 cigs a day ( was a 2+ pad) and they don't taste bad to me.

I vape menthols but I also vape unflavored. I think of unflavored as a palate cleanser....it's what I vaped when I really couldn't taste anything, as seems to happen to most people in the beginning.

I lost all taste of the juices at the 2 week mark and about a week later my taste came back but different. I have some juice that has pineapple and heavy on coconut but all I taste is pineapple. My wife tastes the coconut more and this is pretty much how everything is for me. Before I lost my taste I could taste the coconut. Same thing with some ry4 I have. Before I lost my taste it was so good I couldn't get enough. Now it tastes like crap to me. The first 2 weeks everything was amazing know it is just ok. I figure with enough time it will get better but if not I will continue to swap through 5 or 6 different flavors a day so I can taste them. Even if I have to constantly switch flavors I am happier with vaping than going back to those nasty analogs.

For me, the analogs are starting to lose their taste - I normally can only take about 4 draws and I have to put it out. I felt that this meant I was ready to give them totally up, but not yet. But, I also know since they are starting to taste bad that I am getting closer to throwing them away permanently...

I am using 2 tobacco flavors as my base (PG) and I have been mixing them with a variety of VG flavored juices to get a 75/25 mix for vaping. I have found I really do not like the tobacco flavors by themselves, but I do not like the fruity and other flavors by themselves either so mixing was something I had to try. It has helped a lot, but I do have to continually change up during the day. I am using cherry, coffee, cappuccino, irish creme, brandy, and mint as my VG mixer's. The mint is terrible with tobacco by itself, but it is good with the tobacco and the cherry - adds a little bite. The brandy adds a little bit of bite also. These two combinations are what I use when my taste buds are really out of whack.

Helps me. Maybe it would help you a little also. I only buy the VG in 5ml sizes so as not to waste to much... If you are looking for something that would wake up your taste buds I would suggest the cherry and brandy first. The cappuccino is also good, but a little sweet...

I started vaping because of $$ and I got tired of everyone whining about 2nd hand smoke. so it is likely I will never drop my 2 cigs a day. I'm not really interested in living to be 105 :)

One thing that may help with your taste buds is drinking more water, helps a little.
I'm a 35+ yr ex-smoker, vaping 15 months now...:)...the flavors that helped me the
most in the beginning was licorice, anise, cinnamon, and strong menthol.

And no I never smoked menthol cigarettes, but somehow it just satisfied the cravings,
that and some 36mg e-liquid to start, for when the craving really gets to you. :vapor:

Bladr gave me the advice to get some 30mg last week and I ordered it. Been using it for my heavy desire for an analog moments.

I tried mixing some mint with my tobacco flavors and really did not like it. The taste stayed in my mouth forever and it felt like my tongue was on fire, but I did find that 1 ml mixed in with my cherry and tobacco was a good accent and I am using that some. I will probably have the mint for a long time. Good thing I only bought a 5ml bottle of it..., but it will probably take about 6 months to go through it.
