Hi Everyone,

Been using a ZAP for a couple of days now, really enjoying the flavour and vapor it produces on my first tank with 80PG/20VG Coconut Cream on 6mg nicotine and can REALLY feel the nicotine now compared with using clearos.

Wanted to see how others felt about theirs and any tips or tricks I can learn the easy way instead of waiting for them to happen to me? :)

Couple of ones I've noticed

* Vapor condensation gets to the point where it thickly coats the interior of top cap
* How long does it take to start wicking without having to tip so often
* It sucks up a lot of juice, normal?
* I watched Zen's video and poked and prod the crap out of my coil but I still get hot spots
* Very airy draw, have had to start taking direct lung hits otherwise by the time I finish sucking in I'm getting dry hits

Thanks!

All your complaints are why I sold mine:
Lots of juice condensation in the cap
Having to tip it to wick
Uses a ton of juice...doulble vs direct dripping
Coil hot spots? That takes proctice to avoid...
Airy draw-hated it....
Its the nature of the ZAP......plus the weight and bluk it added to a Provari...not carry freindly....

ZAPs do deliver a ton of nicotine though....they should for being such a juice hog...

The ZAP was my first 'high end' RBA. I had cut my teeth on the various Chinese cheapies; and when I decided that RBAs were for me, I bought a ZAP. At first, I was a little disappointed in the airy draw. But I've actually come to like it.
First off, all gennys condense moisture in the top cap. Some more than others. The ZAP has a pretty large top chamber; so it's of the 'more' variety.
As for tipping, I'm a tipper anyway, so it doesn't bother me. It's just the way I vape. But, the supplied wicks can be improved upon. They aren't really well made, compared to those an experienced builder can roll himself. Some people remove the insulator in the wick hole, and make fatter wicks. Some leave it in, and make their own thin wicks.
Yep, the ZAP is a juice hog, hence the nic hit. The ZAP delivers nicotine like nobody's business.
The ZAP seems to have fallen out of favor lately; probably because there are so many other RBAs out there now, both high and low priced. They aren't the "latest and greatest", like they once were. But all in all, the ZAP is still a good solid RBA.

The ZAP was the first genny I actually got to work (operator error on the previous 2, for sure).

Now, I can vape the tank completely bone-dry without tipping at all - I think the secret is a very FAT, well oxidized wick (insulator removed), of 400 or 500 mesh with NO CENTER HOLE. You want your wick to be fairly tight in the wick hole.

Most likely the excess condensation you are getting in the cap is spillage out the wick hole (esp. with excess tippage) if your wick isn't fat enough to almost fill it.

Have you tried the pulse method to get rid of your hot spots? If not, it's definitely the way to go. Can be a bit tricky on the Provari because of the built in protection, but it can be done - I do it all the time.

If you haven't already, you should follow the tips on eHuman's blog. It's what finally got me to make a successful coil/wick. :)

If you're getting slow response time try either lowering your coil resistance, bumping up your volts, or hitting the button a few seconds before you start your draw. Or all three. I think the ZAP is amazing, but everybody has a favorite. Anyhow, you'll need to get rid of the hot-spots to get full performance from any gennie device. When they're working right they'll all cross your eye balls. :vapor:

I'm actually in the minority, in that I like the skinny wicks, with the insulator, in the ZAP. It's the only RBA I use skinny wicks on. On all of my other RBAs, I use much fatter wicks. The reason I think the thin wicks work well with the ZAP is because of the height of the center post. It's very tall, compared to most other RBAs. 5 or 6 wraps of 32ga kanthal fills the space nicely, and gives good coverage on the wick. I do make my own 400 mesh wicks. The factory supplied ones are junk. I have 3 ZAPs, and for a while I was using fatter wicks, with the insulator removed; and have since gone back to using thin wicks, and the insulator in place.

Really? The supplied wicks were ones of the reasons I likes the ZAP, it was already done for you and probably enough to last a couple of years and new ones could be bought online. Oh well guess I will have to learn how to make my own SS wicks now too...

Yeah I think the condensation might be me excess tipping, I soaked up all the juice yesterday, took a few vapes and rechecked and it was soaked under the cap again, wouldn't have been the vapor condensation in such a short time frame... :vapor:

I can't believe it has sucked up 4ml of juice in 1 day I'd use the same amount over 2 days in a clearo!

With the hot spots, I'm noticing they are more prominent at the top and bottom most coils, they will light up orange before any of the others, is this normal? Figured it was because they are the ones closest connected to the posts and would be drawing the most power.

With an RBA that utilizes an insulator in the wick hole, such as the ZAP or the RSST, the coils may glow red at both the bottom and top ends first. By pulsing, the coil will begin to oxidize the wick under the coil, and eventually, the coil will glow evenly. A little bumping here and there may be necessary.
In an RBA with no insulator in the wick hole, the hot spot will generally be at the top only, when you start.
As for the wicks, the ones supplied with the ZAP do work, I just think they aren't well made, and iMO, they're over oxidized. I make mine similar in size, if I'm using the insulator. I just use more mesh, roll it a little tighter, and don't oxidize as much.

Oooops! I plumb forgot about the wick insulator cause none of my RBAs have em & I have no experience in how coils act w/em. I'll shut up now.

Yeah, when the wick hole is insulated, new coils and wicks behave differently. It's one reason new users find the RSSTs so easy to set up, compared to the AGAs and the Chids.
