All answers of "it's a clone" jokes aside being the problem, I was recently given a Zen clone from a friend. We both have them, they're super slick looking little pieces. Now, here's the issue. It will fire some things, sometimes. Whether it's an RSST, AGA-T2, Nimbus, Octopus, whatever we happen to have around, it'll fire some things, but not all.

When we depress the button, it gets hot. But it won't fire. The tube also gets hot, even with Efest/AW/Sanyo batteries. All have high amp output, protected batteries. My friend had put his battery in and the spring actually caused a spark when the spring and bottom of the battery made a contact. We have not touched them since, just been in our offices, sitting. Any ideas how to fix the problem, or is it just not worth trying to fix?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

Sounds like you are using a mechanical mod and have a short. If the tube is getting hot, you are putting the batteries under a lot of stress and putting yourself in danger. Have you taken a multi-meter to the mod? Glad to hear you are leaving it be, dead shorts are dangerous, even with protected batteries. Use a good multi-meter to track down the problem.

ETA: And don't put any more batteries in it until you are certain the problem is remedied.

Don't really want to put any batteries into it and try anything else, haha. It's been sitting in my vape lair for awhile, I really wanted to bust it out and use something different for a bit. Got enough VV mods (but I still want more, gah).
Is there a way to fix a short in the mod or is it totally done?

Here's a picture of which mod I'm talking about. It's supposed to be a "Zen" clone of sorts. I love Mechanicals, loved this for a day when it worked.

Probably the 510 connection is shorting out you can test for continuity from positive to negative in your connection. Its a chance you take some clones are ok others junk. That mod was made as cheaply as possible with no quality or craftsman ship in mind. The soul propose of this mod was to get you to part with your money. Weather it works or not was never a consideration.
