So I currently have my new zenesis standard hooked up with it's "stock" coil wrap. It's currently set up as a 3/4 wrap. I think the hoh website says less coils = hotter burn. I thought I saw some reviews that stated more coils = hotter burn. I'm looking for a little less of a throat hit so I'm just wondering if I should wrap less or more? Thanks!

I'm kind of puzzled as I believe zen comes with 32 AWG Kanthal and with 3/4 wrap it shouldnt be too strong. I just had to order 28 AWG Kanthal because i really wasnt getting the kind of experience with 32 AWG as I thought Id get from a hybrid. Do you have your airhole lined straight with your wick? What I've heard is that Zens have relatively airy pull and that can definitely make you experience extra throat hit. I n fact, I suspect it's either that or you dont have your airhole aligned with your wick. That said...

Less wraps = less resistance = more power = hotter vape and throat hit. That said, personally I think it's paramount to get to know the wattage you're going after. Most likely if you like a cooler and less in your face kind of a vape you're looking at somewhere between 7W to 9W.

You can get that power in many ways but there really is no question that for the best performance you would want to have as much of the wick area covered with your coil as possible. That means using thicker wire will allow you to do so without getting too high resistance and thus getting your wattage too low. My 2 cents would be to wrap 5/6 and see how you like it.

Ok I think I got it nailed down lol...
I had my all day vape flavor loaded into the zen at the time I was asked the question. This is the RY5 with menthol which you can get from fsusa. I finally got around to really "playing" with the zenesis. There is a pretty strong menthol in this flavor and, for me, creates a much noticeable throat hit. I actually wanted more vapor with less throat hit so I took a wrap out of my coil... CAUGH! It was tasty, but it hurt. Went back to the 4/5. There is still plenty of vapor this way, i just wanted that little more. I got my Bobas bounty in last night and attempted the 3/4 wrap, as opposed to the stock 4/5, and holy crap! Tons of vapor and the TH was perfect. I guess I just figured out that actually diving in and using different flavors, along with different wraps will provide different experiences lol. So, I think for non menthol "smooth" flavors I will go with the 3/4 and menthol type flavors will be 4/5.

Yea, I should have just wrapped my own coils instead of asking on the forum, but I guess I was just trying to get a quick answer at the time. Thanks for the thorough response creamsteam! Turns out less wraps does, in fact = less resistance = stronger TH+ more vapor.

First make sure your air hole is as close to the wick as possible.
Then realize that all other things being equal, the more wattage you pull the hotter and more TH you will generate.
A MECH MOD, with out the ability of variable voltage, you fine tune your wattage is by changing the Ω of your coil via # of wraps and/or changing kanthal gauge. You should own a multi-meter to check the resistance on your coils.

P (watts) = V*V/R
Normal battery Example:_______A full battery will hit harder:
3.7v * 3.7v / 2Ω = 6.85w______4v * 4v / 2Ω = 8w
3.7v * 3.7v / 1.75Ω = 7.82w___4v * 4v / 1.75Ω = 9.14w
3.7v * 3.7v / 1.5Ω = 9.13w____4v * 4v / 1.5Ω = 10.67w
3.7v * 3.7v / 1.25Ω = 10.95w__4v * 4v / 1.25Ω = 12.8w
3.7v * 3.7v / 1Ω = 13.69w____4v * 4v / 1Ω = 16w
Find your sweet spot.

Edit: I can only add that I use 30g 4/5 wrap for 1.5Ω and 5/6 wrap for 1.8, but that also depends on the diameter of your wick as a thicker wick will use more coil wire for the same number of coils than a smaller diameter one will. Thicker wick = more Ω if same # of wraps.

Check (on ohm's Ω setting) across the coil at where ever they connect to the Gennesis. I have an AGA-T+ on mine it would be the positive and negative poles.

You don't need an expensive meter, just a simple reliable one. My meter is over kill for this hobby but my profession requires it.
