So, I've been brainstorming this contraption for a few months. I had become attracted to steampunkish mods. I've seen the builds around here, and the newest local B&M, Vintage Vapors, has some cosmetically modified APVs in the steampunk fashion. This gave me the idea to incorporate the functions of my VW (dna 12) bottomfeeder into a custom-built copper and brass housing. I've wanted the ability to see remaining battery voltage and coil resistance. Unfortunately, the dna 12 doesn't do anything but regulate, albeit consistently. Luckily, I was able to source a Zmax circuit from Hoosier here: Zmax PCB

I began buying materials such as copper and brass sheet, brass escutcheon pins (for the "rivets"). After measuring and remeasuring and cutting and grinding and soldering and tinkering and liberal amounts of cuss words, I present my finest accomplishment in my homemade arsenal. I hope your appreciation equals my pride in the results...

ETA: After discussion over in Reoville, it was brought to my attention that these pics make the steambox look significantly larger than it is. The actual measurements are 3-1/8"(80mm)x2-1/4"(56mm)x7/8"(23mm), so, smaller than a pack of King-size stinkies. Here"s another shot to show perspective. I'm 6'1" for hand size reference.

After I got it all assembled, I realized I could have decreased the width by 1/4", as I was uber-liberal with the area needed to install the PCB/wires. It's still very pocket-able tho!

Before anyone asks, the RDA on top is a modified Smok mini RDA, AKA "Squid". I cut it down and sanded the grooves. I cut the nylon insulator for a channel to allow liquid to pass from the connector to the coil. I added a silicone o-ring to seal the base to the connector, hence no drip cup neccessary. ;)

Nice... although the atty is far too, ah... shiny. ;-) Seriously though... I know quite a bit of thought, effort and workmanship went into incorporating the SP concept into a fully functional, finished product. Love that from the 3/4 view angle, the window appears heart shaped. :)
I totally missed the heart-shape! (Goes to get wife...)

As far as the shiny atty, my plan is to break out the Bernz-o-matic and hopefully get it to a nice bronze color.

Maybe next time... incorporate an actual heart shape. Something discrete, again, not so noticeable at first look... kind of a "pleasant surprise".

A nice heat bronze topper will be a perfect accompaniment to the box.

Cheers!

Great job! Especially noteworthy are the bottle window and switch plate. I don't quite follow what the rivets are from, are they just soldered on?

Edit: Ah, brass nails, I get it. I've used a few myself.

I'm honored by your approval! Some of your builds helped inspire me.

The bottle window and switch plate are, indeed, especially noteworthy, as I carved them, completely by hand, using a drill, tin snips, wet-stone and needle files! Oh yeah... and cuss words. ;)

I considered the DNA 20, but have no use for 20w. I have this baby set up @ 8.5w with a micro 1/16" 4/5 wrap of 32awg and cotton. It sets the flavor of my DIY NET up perfect! While I've admired the DNA 20 builds and followed Brandon's (Evolvapor) circuit evolution, the Zmax circuit was more sturdy for construction, features single button menu and has all the features I desired. The DNA 20 was my 2nd choice for this mod, tho.
