I decided to go very basic this week. Having all these plans wont do you any good unless you are prepared, in advanced, to get to some of these places. So this week's plan "The first 72 hours".
The first 72 hours will decide, for most, if you will live or become zombie food. Hiding from them wont do you any good, eventually you will need to get out of your hiding spot and search for food and water. Having a basic plan in advanced, is your best option. Its going to take time for Chuck Norris to come and find and save everyone, so dont rely on that either. Self preservation is key.
I suggest having a well stocked, well thought out bug out bag. (look on youtube for suggestions on what to carry)
Some use a 3 day bag, others plan a 10 day, the point is to be prepared.
The next part, clothing choices. Surviving Z-day is going to be tough enough without trying to be fashionable. Pick clothes that are easy to move in and that are made well. Choices like what kind of shoes/boots to wear. What kind of outer wear, like jackets in cold climates etc. Remember Z-day is not a fashion show. But always add a black cowboy hat and you will look fine.
Also, now is the time to think of weapon choices. Having to leave your home front and your stash of weapons/ammo etc. What will you take with you? Having an AR or SKS is fine, but try to carry that, your bug out bag and 1000 rounds of ammo. Yes you can pre-load magazines and carry them in a vest, but eventually, ammo will run out. I think the main weapons for long term zombie survival will be edged weapons. Leave the guns and ammo for when you find a place to settle down and have time to stock pile. I am not saying that guns wont be used in the first day, as I have plenty to defend myself with, but like I said, ammo will run out.
After things settle down, ammo will be relatively easy to find. There will be people who thought they were prepared only to get picked off by a swarm of the undead. When picking guns, try to keep to the basic, widely used calibers. I loved my 480 Ruger, it was a big, powerful handgun. It would also be a bad choice for zombie survival. Whats the chances of me finding 480 rounds? They are expensive to stock pile and not many people use that caliber, so basically, its a bad choice. Now, 45acp's. 9mm's, 22LR's, 22mags, 38's, 7.62x39, .223, 12 ga etc etc, those are good choices. Ammo is found everywhere, lots of people using those calibers, so the chances of finding that ammo is good.
The first 72 hours is also when you want to start heading to your predetermined spot. Going to Montezuma's Castle? Better be quick and use the first couple of days to make up some ground, headed in that general direction. Eventually, and probably rather quick, gasoline will be scarce. Dont waste it driving around with no direction in mind.
Remember, the best way to survive the initial days of the Zombie Apocalypse is for YOU to rely on YOU. If you can make it past the first 72 hours, your chances of long term survival is good. Make good rational choices, be well stocked in advanced, and be ready at a moments notice.
1. Montezuma's Castle - JANUARY

Keep your B.O.B. up to date and dont be afraid to make changes. I always have a bag ready, but being from Florida, I was raised to always keep a bag ready during hurricane season. Your bag is not just a zombie survival bag, but it can be used for any disaster- hurricanes, earthquakes, tornado's, social and economic collapse etc. I know the point of the zombie subforum is to joke and have a good time, but this is one thing I really do believe in. Your bag doesnt have to be fancy, a cheap duffle bag will do. Think about things you would need if disaster hit. Keep the items in your bag up to date. Having 4 cans of tuna, with the expiration date 2 years old, is not a good thing. Rotate your food,
batteries etc. Check your flashlights from time to time, keep at least one knife in your bag, 1 pair of fresh socks and make sure you have stuff to make fire.
