Friday is my 45th birthday and I've been smoking for 30 years. I'm up to almost 2 packs a day of Marlboro lights. Tried the patches, they didn't help. I wound up smoking while wearing them. Welbutrin was bad, chantix too. I was one of those that reacted really badly. The gum just didn't do it. Going cold turkey was miserable. I've been smoking for 2/3 of my life and I'm tired of smelling like an ashtray! DH has been using dip for a few years after giving up cigs. He's in with me. He'd like to stop it too. He's had a tobacco habit since he was 9. This gives me an excuse to cut down on the Mt. Dew too. I'm a double addict! LOL

Recently, a friend showed me her e-cig. Since then, I've been researching like crazy. I will be ordering a kgo starter kit for each of us and a 510 for me to use at work. I guess I need that cig alike for security for a while and it is less obvious. I have no idea where to start with juice, especially for DH. I really considered the welcome kit from Johnson Creek just to help figure it out. I don't think I want a tobacco flavor, I'm tired of the smell. From there, I guess it's trial and error until we get the "just right" juice. We are about 30 minutes from Raleigh, NC so eventually I will be making a trip. Until then, I am REALLY GOOD at ordering online. (Local shopping is limited)

I'm really excited to get started. Tomorrow is payday and my income tax refund will be in. It's the perfect time to make an investment. BTW, a video by steeljan pushed me over the edge. She had a youtube vid about trying it out cheap. She made some great points and pushed me over the "well, wonder if that will work?" waffle and she kept me from going to the store and getting a Blu kit.

Oh, boy. I decided to say hello and wrote a book.

1. Congratulations on doing something different, you won't regret it 2. There's no need to settle on one single juice...you may find as most of us have that you like many flavors and your taste buds will change over time 3. keep us updated with any questions you may have 4. after some period of time, i encourage you to become a supporting member and give back to the community by becoming a supporting ecf member if you can

Welcome, and congrats on a new adventure!

Good choice on starting with the kgo. I haven't used one before, but it seems like a reasonable place to start.

As to the juice, I've got a few suggestions. First, don't rule anything out. You'll find there's a mood for every little juice you'll end up with. Some you'll love, some you'll just want on occasion.

I couldn't make the switch off the regular cigs until I had a good tobacco juice. Personally, this was Halo's Tribeca. Man, that's some good stuff! Bit of tobacco, but some sweet caramel as well. Yummy!

OK, back to suggestions, and I'll aim for brevity:
Get into Raleigh and find a shop where you can sample flavors. Really about the only way to know what you'll like.
Order sample packs from online suppliers (Heather's Heavenly Vapes, Alice in Vapeland, Halo, etc)
Get a few extra tanks/clearos so you can have 4 or 5 juices ready to go at a time. You don't want to be tired of something and have to smoke a regular cig. I've got too many tanks running (I brought 8 to work...)

Drink lots of water! You'll dehydrate easier with vaping, so it's imperative to drink water.

Hi 1sewinmom and welcome to ECF. I own the Kgo and it's a great starting point. Have all sorts of PVs but still use my Kgo. Finding the right juice can get expensive if not done in a tactful way...
Best to buy samples to find your likes and dislikes. When I first began vaping I bought 30 wide ranging samples. Out of those 30 I liked 10. Immediately ordered another 20 and out of those I liked 10…so out 50 different flavors I enjoyed 20. Months later I tried those 30 samples that I disliked and enjoyed all but one. Whether it was because my tastes had changed or they needed steeping I don’t know. Realize also "same name" juices will vary greatly in taste from vendor to vendor as they all have diff recipes and order ingredients from diff Suppliers.
If I had bought these "samples" in full size bottles I would've been spending about $1000.00. As it was they cost me about $150.00.

Juice Components
Flavoring usually about 15%- could be higher or lower depending on the flavor used.
PG enhances flavor, TH and lung hit- water like - many of us believe PG to be a throat irritant.
VG= vapor and can mute flavor- thick
Nicotine- TH, lung hit and our need for nicotine. The MOST important ingredient in regards to TH and lung hit.
Standards in the industry are 80/ 20 or 70/ 30 PG/ VG.

Realize vaping is dehydrating
PG and VG are humectants...
A humectant is a substance used primarily in foods and cosmetic products to help retain moisture. These substances are called hygroscopic, which means that they are able to absorb ambient water. These hygroscopic compounds posses a chemical structure that attracts water from the atmosphere and binds it to various sites along the molecule.

When we inhale PG/ VG it "traps" the moisture in our mouth, throat and nasal area and thus the vapor. The real problem arises when the body is dehydrated and begins "stealing" moisture from other parts of the body to keep key organs hydrated. Add to that more than 3 cups of java or caffeine based soda drinks and severe dehydration can occur.

The Very Best of Luck.

Hi ya SewinMom! I have been vaping for one month...had smoked for 35 years and up to two packs also! I will second what everyone else says...go to a store and have them match you up to a system that is right for what you are used to. If it isnt really close to how you are smoking then you will probably go back to smoking again. And OMG i have spent allot of money ordering online only to be disappointed...it wasnt until i went to a good local store and they took the time to sit down with me and help decide on a system that was right for me that i was able to switch over completely.

If a store just hands you something and hurries you out dont buy from them! Find someone who will spend time with you and really cares if you get off of cigs.

Try lots of flavors and expect your taste buds to change! I am a diet coke addict and like Demi said you have got to drink allot of water! So i have a big cup of both next to me :)

I made the mistake of getting 24 mg nicotine and man ole man when you are over nic'd it is really bad...headache, fast beating heart, and feel woozy....I went to 18 mg then 12 then 10 because i find myself vaping all the time.

I am now reading everything i can on here about making my own juice..i was spending $275 a month smoking and if i keep buying the juice at $15 to $20 for a 30ml bottle it is just as much.

Looks like i wrote a book too! LOL

Anyway, good luck to you!!!

Tank busting can be got around with a metal or glass tank. Just letting the lady know it is an option. :)
Just saying it should be expressed appropriately. No need to have her bust a tank, when an extra sentence would prevent the issue.

Not trying to be mean or anything. Just trying to look out for fellow noobs

Former 20+ year pack a day (Marlboro Medium/Red Label 100) smoker.
Been vaping almost 2 weeks now and only have gone through 2 packs since starting.
Just remember trial and error until you get the nicotine level right and be aware that "issues" you may experience (problems sleeping, gas, bloating etc) may actually be from nicotine withdrawal...yeah I suffered through them and thought I was having to much nicotine and/or some kind of reaction to the PG/VG mixes but was actually not getting enough nicotine compared to before.
Probably best things I can tell you is what one of my co-workers told me (also member here but not sure what his member name is) and that is along the lines of
"Don't think about how many cigarettes you've smoked, but rather think about how many you have NOT smoked"

Good luck...

Agreed but in a similar vein I felt it a good idea to say the juice isnt forever out of reach since the problem can be worked around with glass or metal. :)

No offense taken at all for your correction.

welcome to the Fog,

short spiel,

first off, never forsake the Dew !!!

best thing i can say to anyone that wants to vape.
go for the best you can afford now.
you'll spend alot of money and wind up wishing,
you had done it in the first place.

buy the best and pass up the rest.
spend once now, or twice later.
i like provari, they're made in the usa, they make me happy.
i don't live in china, so i'd rather not support them.
buy what makes you happy, and you will be.
it really doesn't matter what you use, how much you spend.
the point is, you're not smoking.
life is short, and you can't take it with you....
play with it 'till you're bored, then get a new one.
