Kentucky vape

The state of Kentucky has a house bill they are trying to pass that will eliminate everything vaping in this state. Any forum members from Kentucky? I was given a link, flow.page/nohb11 to send the message to our representatives that we oppose House Bill 11. Anybody that can, I'd certainly appreciate it personally.

OXVA SQ Pro (CRC) Review By Ben28

OXVA SQ Pro CRC
Intro.jpg
OXVA recently released new products, exactly the SQ Pro. But this version (CRC) comes with a new cartridge, the so-called V3, which implements top filling, which I much prefer compared to the side filling that we usually find. This device has all the features of the previous one, which was not a CRC version, that is, 1200mAh battery, different themes in the UI, compatible with freebase and nicsalts liquids, among other features.

I would like to thank Lina from OXVA for sending me these products for review. You can visit their page and specifically the announcement of the OXVA SQ Pro CRC, I will attach links.

Disclaimer; Nobody nor any brand is paying me to do this review, all you will see are my most sincere opinions, both the positive and the negative.

Packaging
ReLens_IMG_20240228232138.jpg

The product comes in a red rectangular box with a small window so you can see the product without opening the box. At the top we see the OXVA brand in silver and on the left the model name, XLIM SQ Pro CRC. Little else can be said about this front, the red color and silver letters simply predominate.

ReLens_IMG_20240228232146.jpg

On one of the sides, which is unusual, the contents of the box are shown in both English and French. The predominant color red is still maintained but the letters are white.

In the box;
1* XLIM SQ Pro Device
1* 0.8Ω XLIM CRC Cartridge (2mL)
1* Type-C Cable
1* Lanyard
1* User Manual

Something I'm missing here is another type of pod, why only one? It is better to give the customer two so that he can try and decide better which one to buy next time.

ReLens_IMG_20240228232200.jpg

On the back we find some more branding and the color of the product is specified, in this case Gunmetal Wood. Also, at large, we can see a warning about nicotine and vaping.

ReLens_IMG_20240228232228.jpg

When we open the box we find a pad where the product will be resting in a custom-made hole and on the other hand a rectangular cardboard box in which we will find the manual, the cable and the lanyard.

ReLens_IMG_20240228232251.jpg

If we take things out of the box and organize everything, we are left with this. On the one hand the device, on the other hand the lanyard and the charging cable.

Device Inspection

ReLens_IMG_20240228232306.jpg

As we can see in the image, the SQ in the product name refers to square, that is, the device has a square shape with rounded edges and corners. On the front we find an unevenness, this is due to the space that the battery needs and probably also to some aesthetics. We find the cartridge in the upper right part while the area where the lanyard is attached is on the left side.

The screen is located at the bottom right, it has an oval shape and will show us quite important information. In addition, the UI has different themes and we can choose to suit each one.

At the bottom left we find some more branding.

I should point out that this color is named Gunmetal Wood, but I honestly don't think that the ``wood'' area is wood as such. It looks like a kind of plastic with a vinyl/coating. Even so, it looks pretty good.

ReLens_IMG_20240228232314.jpg

This is the screen in question with one of the themes already chosen. In all themes we will be shown the following information:

- Wattage, quite large position compared to the other information.
- The vaping mode, which will show SMART or POWER as we choose.
- In the circle on the left the Ω of the coil (not interchangeable by the way). This circle will be interspersed with a puff seconds counter.
- In the circle on the right we find a puff counter.
- In the area below we find the battery indicator.

As I have been checking, the layout of this information is the same in the 3 UI themes that we are given to choose from.

ReLens_IMG_20240228232329.jpg

On one of the sides we find the adjustable air inlet. This will be regulated by raising or lowering the tab, which will cause air to enter or stop entering. The entrance is made up of 3 levels/holes. When it is closed to the maximum we will not even be able to take a puff because of how restricted it is. In this way, by playing a little with the input, we can achieve from an MTL vape to an RDL one.

As for the hardness of this regulation, it is quite good, but I have occasionally moved it accidentally while using it, so I would give it a little more hardness.

  • Question
Success Story and a question

Hi all,

[TLDR]
I rarely vape anymore, basically a tank of juice and battery charge will last me a couple months.

Is it safe to vape juice (0mg nic.) that has been in my tank for two months?

[long story]
I'm in my 10th year of quitting cigarettes, thanks to Vaping.

After quitting, I vaped for a few zeros, gradually reducing the nicotine, until i got to 0mg, and then I stopped. I didn't deliberately make an effort to quit vaping, as I lost my addiction to nicotine, I just kinda forgot about it.

A couple of months ago, I decided to pick up some juice and have the occasional vape.

I packed up all my old gear, brought it to the vape shop.

The person behind the counters was fascinated by the "antiques". Needless to say replacement coils and tanks were no long an option.

So I picked up a VooPoo Drag S kit, and 60ml of 0 nicotine menthol, and started enjoying the occasional vape.

The problem is, I vape so rarely, a tank and a full charge will last me 2 months.

How long can juice, in the tank last and be safe to vape?

Thanks!

Is Big Tobacco really an issue?

I bring this subject up since I'm constantly seeing Tobacco Co's being bashed as the bad guys.
Hey a lot of facts to that but wait aa minute. Tobacco Co's have been buying into the whole of the Vaping Products via Disposables. Thus I see them as a tool to fight Org's like the FDA , ALA and Others who are petitioning Vapings demise via paying off Politicians and thrusting rules and regs at us..
They have the funds and the know how to fight these entities.. I consider them in allegiance with us especially considering (maybe) 50% of all Vapers are using Disposables.
Tobacco Co's saw the handwriting on the wall. Their sales were dwindling and people went over to the original Cig Like disposables. They glommed on to the idea and went into buying ownership with these Co's. Now we have some fantastic disposables...(I don't use em and prefer refillables, but I digress)

So personally I think we need to rethink who our enemies are. Tobacco Co's aren't the entity to be condemned.
(for their decades of the past... yes)
It's the Gov't led Entities we need to go after.

Does anyone know what's going on with Backwoods Blends?

I've previously purchased e-juice from Backwoods Blends several times. No real problems other than my orders taking several weeks to arrive. However, my most recent order was placed on December 4, 2023, and I'm still waiting at the end of February 2024. I've sent two emails to inquire about my order, but haven't received any replies. Now the website appears to be down and I have no way to contact them. Does anyone know what's going on?

Design
Even though these devices look very different, of course in a way they look similar, because that’s just the OXVA XLIM look. Both devices have airflow control on the side, a screen on the front, a button on the other side. I notice that I keep being a sucker for those small pod devices that have a square form factor, so in the design category the SQ version takes it home on that one. If you like that more original stick form factor go for the XLIM Pro. The USB-C port is on the side of the SQ version and on the bottom of the stick version. Both devices have some branding on the front and back. As you can see in the pictures, they come in a bunch of colors as well. The stick version also comes in some gleamy colors, so you can pick up any color that would fit your wants.

Pods
I was just starting to get obsessed with the older XLIM pods and then these showed up. I already liked the top fill method from the older pods, with the rubber plug at the top, but this is just a good old crack to fill the pod. You just take off the top part, that feels like a silicone kind of material, but it’s a hard plastic. This reveals two springs on both sides where you can fill the pod. The innovative use of these springs on both sides of the pod ensures a secure seal while also minimizing the risk of leaks. I also love brands that keep their devices compatible with old and new pods, so also props to OXVA for that. It really shows their dedication to the people who use their brand.

OXBAR Rocky Vapor E-Liquid
Strawberry Watermelon

I always hear a lot of people ask how to mimic that disposable flavor and this OXBAR liquid gets very close to that. The watermelon in this one is definitely more prominent than the strawberry, but that doesn’t take away how sweet and tasty this flavor is. When using pod devices I don’t think I’ve ever tried an E-Liquid with this much sweetness and flavor to it, if you’ve never tried any E-Liquids from OXBAR yet, I would definitely recommend it, especially if you are a sweet tooth like me.

Performance
In terms of performance both devices are very similar. The SQ version has a slightly bigger battery, which is definitely noticeable when you are out and about with both devices. Honestly with a 1000 mAh battery, most vapers will probably get through a day, but not having to worry about it at all with that 1200 mAh battery, was very pleasant. Both devices offer adjustable wattage and adjustable airflow, so if you like to change those up a bit or tinker with that, that’s an option. The devices are set into smart mode out of the box though, so if you don’t wanna mess with that adjustable wattage, you can just put the pod in and the device will set it to the recommended wattage for that pod, so you can just start vaping it.

Pros
  • Pod compatibility
  • Build quality
  • Very good flavor
  • Adjustable wattage and airflow
  • Possibility for a lanyard (+ lanyard included)
  • A spare pod (XLIM Pro only)
  • Charging port on the side (XLIM SQ Pro only)
  • Quick charging
  • A screen on both devices

Cons
  • Small pod capacity (2ML)
  • Only one pod in the package (XLIM SQ Pro only)

Verdict
Both of these devices over a very satisfying vaping experience. I’m starting to realize more and more that I have been sleeping on OXVA, by not giving myself the chance to try their devices sooner. These devices have a very solid performance, both by flavor and battery. The features they have are something that could be important for a lot of vapers, especially those who like to use bigger vaping devices, but choose pod devices for ease throughout the day. Yes, the XLIM SQ Pro only comes with one pod in the package and that could be bummer, but don’t let that stop you from trying one of these devices. This little drawback is outweighed by the overall quality and features of the device. I have to be honest and tell you that I haven’t been able to set the SQ Pro version down since I received it. I love how a squared shaped device like that fits perfectly in my hands and when vaping it, because of how good the flavor is, I sometimes forget I’m using just a pod.

Developments around li-ion cells

Hello everyone,

first post here (in three parts) - but long-time lurker in this (sub-)forum :) And now finally registered as I have questions about li-ion batteries, hoping someone has some thoughts on them. I just read the forum rules and concluded that to comply with rule 13c I need to split it into three different threads to avoid a cluttered thread with a meaningless title.
I apologize if that was incorrect and ask for merging the threads if that was the case.

So in this thread only the short questions to satisfy my curiosity about the whole topic (an interest that was incited by Mooch's awesome YouTube videos some years ago).

1) I saw that there are now legit 18650s with more than 3500 mAh, up to 4000 mAh. I always thought that ~ 3500 mAh capacity was the physical barrier and that no 18650 could ever have a bigger capacity. Has there been some technological breakthrough to make those higher capacity cells possible? Will the development continue or are 18650 with more than 4000 mAh impossible as the barrier of physics is now reached with them?

2) I was surprised to see on the current versions of the datasheets for some Molicel batteries that they have obviously hopped onto the "not for vape" train despite Molicel embracing usage of their batteries in ecigs in the past. Does anyone know when and why they changed their position on that? Or do I just have that incorrectly in mind and they never were OK with usage of their cells in ecigs?

3) I know that storing a fully charged li-ion cell for a longer period of time (perhaps even top-off charging them from time to time to keep them at 100%) is really unhealthy for the batteries. But is that also the case for NiMH-cells and NiMH-LowSelfDischarge-cells? Or is that something that is exclusive to li-ion?

I know, these things don't have a real practical relevance. This is just out of my interest for that topic (that was incited by Mooch's YouTube videos some years ago).

Any thoughts on that would be highly appreciated and thanks for reading!

E-Stream ES18650-26EP - strange things are happening...

So in this thread only the things about some strange things in connection to a certain battery model.

OK, I admit - this is a strange one. I have already made up my mind to recycle these cells as I don't think I should continue to use them, but my interest in the topic still fuels my curiosity about what was going on with these batteries ;)

The battery in question is the E-Stream ES18650-26EP.
I have 8 of them in four 'married' pairs.
These are high cycle life cells - that's why I bought them.
I only buy cells that were tested with good results by either Mooch or by HKJ (aka lygte-info); in this case the test was from HKJ and was pretty positive. Also I buy only cells where a full datasheets and safety reports are available, which is the case here.

They are specified with 2600 mAh and a CDR of 7,5A (for high cycle life) or 15A (for "normal" cycle life on the same level as other cells). I always used them in the recommended way for the higher cycle life, that includes not only a max. CDR of 7,5A but also a slower charge speed.

But here's some things I find a bit strange:

- It's nothing new that cells get exaggerated ratings, but these were highly UNDERrated - they have almost 2700 mAh and as the mods normally turn off at 3,2V I guess their true rating is more like 2800 mAh.
- The cells were in married pairs, but started to "diverge" pretty soon - and that has gone really extreme now! Sometimes the difference between both cells in a pair is 300-500 mAh!
- In three of the four pairs one cell discharges MUCH faster than the other.
- Several cells have started to self-discharge at a high rate!! It's noticable that after a rather short time (2-3 weeks) they loose a significant amount of charge. (Internal short?)
- They never got noticably warm in use or during charging.
- All eight cells had and still have low IR measurements (around 30 mOhm).

A long time ago I had a very similar case with a pair of Samsung 30Q where I just gave the "misbehaving" cell to the recycling and used the surviving cell for single battery devices. I was thinking about doing the same thing here, but decided against doing that as I feel that it's only a matter of (not that much) time until the other cells start doing the same thing.

My questions are:

I came to the conclusion that whatever happened to these batteries - the self-discharge shows that they are potentially very dangerous in their current state, perhaps even when not used. Would you agree?

I decided that it's best to recycle all of them without trying to use the non-suspicious one as single cells. As I always try to minimize waste and replace things only when needed I ask: would you agree?

And what could have happened to them to cause this? Is there a common, a typical reason for these phenomena (given the fact that I once had a 30Q pair diverging quickly)?

Again: This is not about me wanting to continue using these cells. I have already decided to sort them out as I don't trust them anymore. This is just out of my interest for that topic (that was incited by Mooch's YouTube videos some years ago).

Any thoughts on that would be highly appreciated and thanks for reading!

Using older batteries

Hello everyone,

first post here (in three parts) - but long-time lurker in this (sub-)forum :) And now finally registered as I have questions about li-ion batteries, hoping someone has some thoughts on them. I just read the forum rules and concluded that to comply with rule 13c I need to split it into three different threads to avoid a cluttered thread with a meaningless title.
I apologize if that was incorrect and ask for merging the threads if that was the case.

So in this thread only the things about the usage of older cells and not those questions that I ask only to cure my curiosity.

1) Are older cells just (potentially) annoying or are they "unsafe"?

I do know (from watching Mooch's YouTube videos) that it's incorrect to phrase it as "safe" or "unsafe" as there's always a rest risk using li-ion cells and that it's not a binary thing "either safe or unsafe" with nothing in between.
But the approximate amount of how much the usage risk increases interests me. Let's say I use an older cell that lost a noticable amount of capacity - is the danger involved in doing so more like "didn't tie my shoe correctly" or rather like "driving 200 mph in the wrong direction" when compared to a newer cell?
Background of this question: I have some older cells that definitly lost quite some capacity, but they're still useful for what I use them for (low watts regulated), they don't get warm during charging or using, the IR is higher than on younger cells of the same type but nothing too extreme.

Just three examples:
VTC6, 6 years old, useable capacity around 1500 mAh, IR 97 mOhm. -> Recycled.
VTC6, 6 years old, useable capacity around 1600 mAh, IR 61 mOhm. -> Was still in use, now pending recycling. Would using it be a high risk compared to a newer cell? (<-- I don't intend to do so! I'm asking out of curiosity.)
VTC6, 5 years old, useable capacity around 2300 mAh, IR 27 mOhm. -> Still in use. I'd say "old but healthy"...right?

- "Usable capacity" = my way of saying that this is the amount that was recharged after using the cell until the mod gave battery empty message as I don't know the correct term for that
- both mAh and IR measured by one of my Miboxer C4-12 upgrade, after I checked both charger's accuracy by comparing their IR reading of new cells with the datasheets of the batteries;
- the contacts in the chargers get cleaned with isopropanol prior to every usage and
- I regularly recheck the charger's accuracy by (cross-)comparing the readings with each other, with previous readings and by comparing the readings of new cells with the cell's datasheets and / or Mooch's average measurements of the specific model)

2) Internal Resistance

I'm wondering why the last cell mentioned still has such a low IR on the same level as a new VTC6, despite its age and usage - leading me to the question if the IR is actually (together with the capacity measurement) useful to determine the status of the cells to help deciding when to take a cell out of use or not.

Any thoughts on that would be highly appreciated and thanks for reading!

Greetings,

Axxe

Dead Rabbit rides again, again

I recently got a bottle of a new flavor, pineapple peach dragonfruit iced, and it may be a coil killer because my coil is starting to taste wonky after just a week. So, I broke out my dead rabbit, cleaned up the coils and ran some new cotton. And this is where this juice really shines. Quite nice, really

Whats all the fuss about the Boro / billetbox things?

Ok first of all, I do have one, but I hardly vape it, have simple replaceble coils.

I do get it they look cool, but it is soooo much back to basics.

Rubber filling holes, or worse sliding windows. Try that while driving.

Alot of boro's are so back to basic, I have even seen one with stainles wicking cables (genisis style)?. I tried those in the past, the flavor was ok, but soo finicky!

I am now waching GrimmGreens Kayvun Boro redemtion video, and what I see is that you need to touch everything of that boro wich then goes into you juice that goes into your longs, I think you should not or at least try to minimize skin contact with anything that touches your liquid. I remember the stale musty flavor if you put too much skin grease on your wicks.

And I see a lot of juice inside the billetboxes, it is just messy, why are they so popular?

Waiting for the video to end to see if he likes the keyvun Boro now.

Idea for a mod design

Call it “the prepper” after those idiots trying to survive the end times or whatever. It’s a nicer name than what they were called in the 70’s (like most things) but one of the issues these days is all kinds of anti vaping laws are coming out. Theirs would be a “cold dead fingers” mod.

Do a 510 TOTALLY SEALED regulated squonk with NO BATTERY. Just a USBC. Maybe do a sealed 21700 battery case that clips to it but the idea is the power goes through the USBC. It could be powered by ANY BATTERY BANK. (Or that clip-on thing could be use AS a battery bank) And a standard RDA doesn’t use coil cartridges. Just wire and cotton. It would even pass UL, water resistance and if you work it right, even drop testing. which iirc only one mod ever has. It won’t break, CANT be stopped because it uses commodity stuff made for other things, and wouldn’t even be very complicated or expensive to do. It’s even more resistant to legislation than a mech.

Someone starts selling something like that I’ll buy it.
