Voopoo Drag H80s Kit ~ A review by AngeNZ​

Introduction:​

This device was sent to me from Sourcemore for the purposes of an unpaid, neutral review. The Drag H80s is actually my first pod mod from Voopoo. I may be late to the game but Voopoo sure isn't, they have brought out a plethora of versions since their first Drag S/X.

The Drag H80s is a more compact, streamlined device powered by an 18650 external battery. It features a 4.5ml top-fill tank compatible with the vast PnP coil range. How does this edition stack up? Let's find out!

Kit Contents:​

Tank and Coils:​

Voopoo have gone for a traditional twist-off top tank, which reveals two fill ports. The tank is a generous 4.5ml and is nice and clear to see your juice levels.

I found it easiest to open by holding the drip-tip, and twisting the cap anticlockwise. The fill ports are membraned and accept a 100ml Chubby Gorilla bottle nozzle. This design works extremely well in making the tank leak-proof.

The non-removable drip tip is of a wider bore id at the top and narrows down to a 6mm id chimney. It is aimed more in the RDL/DL range than a tight MTL. Anything in-between is possible if that is your style.

The Drag H80s' airflow adjustment is clever and can be fine-tuned to your preferences by turning the tank. I'll talk more about this below in the Device section.

To switch out your coil flip the tank upside down. If you have any juice left, this may drain out so do it over a sink or napkin. Then just pull out the old coil, and slot in the new one.

I was glad to see Voopoo bring out an 18650 pod mod that uses their large range of PnP coils, For this device they have included their new RDL 0.3Ω TW30 coil and a new DL 0.15Ω TW15 coil. Both of these coils feature Voopoo's Dual In One Tech. According to Voopoo this provides more vapour and flavour, while needing less power and therefore using less ejuice.



0.3Ω (28-36watts) Coil:

I started this coil at 20 watts and it was a cool vape with good flavour and good vapour production. Up at 25 watts, the flavour improved and so did the vapour. Around 30 watts was where I found the best flavour and it was a smooth, slightly warm vape. This was my personal preference for this coil and it produced smooth, rich vapour. I took it up to 35 watts, where it was of course warmer and with more vapour.

This is a good all-round coil for the 25-35 wattage range. I preferred it with the airflow wide-open, however it performed just as well with the airflow more restricted.

0.15Ω (55-70watts) Coil:

I'm more of a mid-wattage vaper. But I don't mind trying out new things, or clouding out the room now and then! I started this coil at 40 watts and it surprised me how fast it ramped up. It was a cool vape with decent flavour and vapour. At 50 watts was my personal preference. It's a slightly warm vape, the flavour was fantastic and it produced smooth, thick vapour.

In the 55-60 watts range is where this coil truly shines. The flavour is at its best and brings out even more notes in your juice. The vapour is thick, rich and majorly cloudy. The only downside is your battery time is reduced at this wattage.

PnP Coil Range:

Along with the two coils above, any of Voopoo's PnP coils will fit in this device. If you prefer a lower wattage coil, this gives you more options. There's also the PnP RBA coil, which may appeal more to those of us who enjoy rebuildables.

Device:​

The Drag H80s is extremely comfortable to hold and use. The 'leather' panel makes it grippy and adds appeal to its looks. For an 18650 pod mod, it is definitely in the small and sleek category. It's in the mid-range for weight. Full tank and with a battery it weighs 175g. I like the recessed tank design and how it makes this device shorter. The top slots in the mod work well to see your juice level, once it's down below.

The large fire button is in a good position and the adjustment buttons are large and well spaced out. I've had no button rattling or sticking.

Airflow Adjustment:

One of the best features of the Drag H80s is how they have designed the airflow adjustment. The tank is firmly attached by magnets to the deck and the coil base sits in the small basin. By turning the tank you activate a slider which closes off the airflow to both sides. By further turning, you can open up one side only or complete the turn for both sides back open. This really allows you to completely fine-tune the airflow to what works best for you.

Gene.TT 2.0 Chip:

This is my first device with Voopoo's Gene.TT 2.0 chip and I like what I see. The screen is large, clear and shows you every single detail you could ever want to know. The device fires extremely fast and has every safety feature you expect in a regulated mod. Where this chip shines, is in its ramp up ability with mid to high wattage coils.

There are three modes available Smart (default) Rba and Eco. To access the menu press down the top and bottom adjustment buttons together. You can lock the device, including the fire button by pressing down the fire button and top adjustment button. To unlock repeat. 5 clicks turns the device off or on.

Smart mode (default): This is wattage/power mode that automatically sets the wattage range of your coil based on its resistance. If you want to go higher than this range, switch to Rba mode.

Rba (Wattage): You set the wattage 5 - 80 watts

Eco: Reduces power usage by dimming the screen. Once your battery hits 40% you are asked if you wish to switch to this mode, if you don't have a battery handy then you may like this mode.

Battery cover:

Pulling off the leather grip accesses the battery compartment. The positive is marked with a large + and the positive end is beneath the tank. There's no marking for the negative end, which could have easily been done. The battery is held snuggly with the negative end springing up. Try and press down with the battery when removing it, so you don't damage your wrap. (Never use a battery with a tear or damage to the wrap)

The Bottom Line:​

There's a lot to like about Voopoo's Drag H80s. The design and size of the pod tank works well and I'm glad to see a top-fill tank. The PnP coils lasted well and produced some really good flavour and plenty of vapour. I preferred the 0.3Ω coil as it suited my wattage range. However the flavour was slightly better with the cloudy 0.15Ω coil.

The device itself is compact, sleek and with the recessed tank very pocket friendly. I loved how fast the chip fired and its big clear screen. The way it ramps up the higher wattage coil is great. The airflow design is well thought-out and my stand out feature. Being able to go from wide-open dual-sided airflow, down to a single-sided pinprick will suit the majority of vapers.

Compared to Voopoo's original Drag X/S it's clear how much refinement this edition has had. It's a worthy competitor in the pod mod market.

In each case, I've checked the devices were fully charged, that there was the correct level of liquid in the tank and that the coil was fitted correctly. I've even tried replacing the coil and using both the 0.6 and 1.2 versions. Still nothing.

I don't think it's a bad batch as I bought two online and one from a shop. The woman at the shop says they're really reliable and rarely break - so why have I broken three of them? Two of them lasted two or three weeks. The third lasted maybe half an hour!

Hello and welcome back. Today I will be taking a look at the Eleaf Iore Crayon Pod kit. The Crayon is the latest in the Iore series. I recently reviewed the Eleaf Iore Lite 2 which I was very pleased with. The Crayon is a larger device with a couple more features and a really different design from past Iore versions. The Crayon has an internal battery rated at 1000mah with a charging rate of 5V/1A through the USB-C charging port. It can be used either as an auto draw or button fired device. The included pod does not have a replaceable coil. The built in coil is .8 ohms and the pod has a liquid capacity of 2ml.

INITIAL THOUGHTS:

The packaging for the Crayon is pretty basic as far as packaging goes for pod devices. There’s no tray holding the device or accessories. As a matter of fact there really aren’t any accessories besides a user manual, warranty card, and a USB-C charging cable. The Crayon comes with one pod that has a built in internal coil. The front of the box has a picture of the device as well as the usual branding and product name. The front and back both have a large warning label. The back also has a contents list, specifications, and company information.

The sides of the box have an authenticity code, some features, a bar code with the color version contained inside and another warning. The picture on the front does not necessarily match the color of the actual device purchased.

The box comes wrapped in plastic much like most other samples but normally there is a plastic tray inside holding the device. It is not the case with the Crayon. The Crayon is simply put inside the box inside a plastic bag with one end not sealed. Also inside is the user manual, warranty card, and charging cable. There is only one pod included in the kit and it comes pre-installed on the device but does have a safety seal on the bottom to keep it from being fired before filling it. The seal instructs the user to wait five minutes after filling before using it which is a nice touch.

The Crayon has a 1000mah internal battery which is a decent size but for as big as the Crayon is compared to smaller pod devices carrying the same size battery, it seems to me that they could have fit a larger battery inside like a 1200 or 1500mah battery.

On the front of the mod is a single fire button, an indicator light near the bottom and the Eleaf name printed near the bottom. The back side has the Iore Crayon name printed near the bottom.

There is a magnetic cover over the top of the pod with viewing windows on opposite sides to allow the user to hopefully see the liquid level. This design reminds me of another device that I reviewed previously that had a cover over the pod but can’t recall the name of it. However, on that device the cover was a silicon piece where the Crayon’s cover is a hard plastic with a magnet in the center opening that goes over the tip and holds the cover on securely. There are grooves inside the top cover on opposite sides that have to be aligned with the notches on the mod to allow it to go on properly.

The USB-C charging port is located on the bottom of the device so it can’t be stood up while charging. The body has a square shape and is large enough that if the port had been put on one of the sides then it could have been stood up while charging. It really doesn’t matter to me but I know some prefer to stand devices up while charging. The entire body of the mod is plastic but has a soft feel to it. I’m not sure exactly how this is done but it reminds me of an old “silk” mod that I had years ago. The charging rate on the Crayon is 5V/1A so it should be able to fully charge in about an hour since it has a 1000mah internal battery.

The pod opening on the battery has the standard two spring loaded contacts along with the airflow sensor for the auto draw since the Crayon can be used as an auto draw or button fired device. There are four magnets in the opening that align with the four magnets on the base of the pod to hold the pod in place very securely. The device is fairly lightweight and can be easily lifted by the top cap or pod without the pod coming loose or moving. I find it interesting how the airflow channel in the opening is designed with the grooves cut out and the pod airflow intakes are on either side of the sensor once the pod is installed.

The pod has a liquid capacity of 2ml which is a little deceiving to me because with the square shape of the pod it would lead me to believe that it would have a larger capacity. The Eleaf name is printed on one side of the pod. The coil contained inside the pod is rated at .8 ohms and the mod has an output rating of 15 watts maximum which to me is a good combination for a pod device. The fill port plug is opened from the top and the way it is designed the tab of the plug sticks up a little past the top of the pod to make it very easy to grab and pull down to open the pod for filling. The fill port opening is measured at 4mm and I had no issues filling with my normal 10 and 50ml bottles that I commonly use. The drip tip is not replaceable on these pods. It is part of the pod. Eleaf was nice enough to send me an extra package of pods which come in packs of two. The ones I received are the same as the ones included in the Crayon but did notice that there were two pictures on the package showing one with a white tip and one with a black tip. I don’t know for sure but am wondering if the ones with the black tip will be a different resistance rating.

The indicator light on the Crayon is illuminated in white whenever you take a puff or press the fire button. However, when charging the light shows up as red until the battery is fully charged and the light goes off once fully charged. The Crayon is turned on/off by pressing the fire button five times.

The Crayon does have some built in safety protections and they are as follows.

• Overtime protection: After vaping for 10 seconds then the output shuts off and the light flashes 5 times.
• No Pod Detected: Indicator light flashes slowly three times.
• Low Battery Protection: If the battery drops below 3.3V then the light will flash 10 times.
• Short Circuit Protection: If there is a short detected before vaping then the light will flash 5 times and there will be no output. If the short is detected while vaping then the light will flash 3 times and there will be no output.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I haven’t been doing reviews for Eleaf for very long but have to say that they are really putting out some good products. The Crayon is a fairly simplistic device but has a larger footprint than many other pod devices on the market that have a similar sized battery capacity. I like having the option of being able to button fire or auto draw. My preference with the Crayon has been to auto draw with it. I do kind of wish there was a button combination so you could disable the button for pocket carrying but I have not had any issues carrying it in a jacket pocket. It is a bit too large for carrying in a front shirt pocket. If you don’t like the small viewing window on the top cover then you could run it without the cover. It really doesn’t have any function besides protecting the pod. One thing to keep in mind if you are around metal dust or shavings is that the magnet in the top of the cap will attract metal dust as I found out at my work. The cap can be removed and cleaned easily so it’s not that big of a deal. I happen to work in a shop where there is metal dust around so I may be the odd man out on this.

The auto draw function worked very well the entire time I have been testing the two Crayon samples that I received. The draw is a fairly loose MTL draw which I happen to like. I think you could even do an RDL if you tried. The flavor production from the .8 ohm coils was very good in my opinion. I tried my usual menthol tobacco in one and ran Dinner Lady Fruit Splash in the second one. I was very happy with the flavor production. The vapor was just slightly warm at first but if you chain vape then it will get quite warm and the tip actually gets a little warm. During chain vaping using the auto draw function I did get a tiny bit of spit back if I got too aggressive with the chain vaping. Overall though the pods performed very well and produced a very nice amount of vapor.

Ok so I got a DNA device because I heard they were very precise and accurate. I figured if you set the device to 130 wats then when you take a pull, then go check puff info that it would said the puff was at 130 watts. I have a dovpo riva 250c and everytime I set it on say 127 watts the I check the puff info it's always say between 1.3 and 3.5 watts less than what I set it out. I mean I ain't co.plaiming about it's still the best device I've owned. I'm just wondering if this is normal. Have I just misunderstood the precision of the DNA or is there something going on that I don't undt because I am relatively new to vaping. Any help would be appreciated thanks!
