Hi all, I pulled my Apollo out of storage yesterday, and I cleaned it up and stuff, but the button was stuck. I took it apart as best I could (couldn't find any tutorials on it or similar mechs), but it still doesn't want to depress at all. Its a magnetic button, and I make sure to put the bottom magnet in so that its repelled from the top one. I can't figure out how to remove the top magnet and battery contact, not sure if its threads are stripped or if I'm just doing it wrong.

It seems to me that there is no reason it should be acting like this, I can't figure out what's going wrong.

I probably know what you’re thinking. Oh boy, another Drag mod. Well, yes it carries the Drag name but it’s different from previous models that I’ve reviewed before. I’m probably getting ahead of myself here. First let me say that I was sent the Voopoo Drag Q Pod Mod by Voopoo for the purpose of this review. I hope that it helps you decide if it’s something you’d like to purchase yourself or not. The Q has a 1250mah internal battery which is a nice size for a device of this small size. It makes use of a synchronous airflow and power adjustment which I found rather interesting. The ITO-X Pod included in the kit has a 3.5ml liquid capacity and includes two coils of different resistance levels than I’m used to seeing. Instead of the usual .8 and 1.0 this kit comes with .5 and 1.2 ohm coils to allow a wider variation of output and performance.

INITIAL THOUGHTS:

The packaging for the Drag Q was a little different from what I usually see. There is a pull tab on one end and the contents slide out instead of having the usual outer sleeve and box top to remove. The front of the box has a nice color picture of the device inside along with an almost rainbow type swirl around the device picture. On the back of the package is the usual list of contents, company information, and authenticity code. Of course mine has a big Sample sticker on the back since it is a reviewer’s sample and not a final production model.

On one side of the box is a series of QR codes that can be scanned with your phone along with a barcode and the name of the color of the device inside. As you can see I received the Chestnut color which I like very much. On the opposite side is a list of features and yet another QR code.

At the time that this is being written, the Drag Q has not been released yet and there is little to no information available on it. I will do my best to cover it the best that I can with the information I have.







Let’s start by taking a look at the ITO-X Pod included in the kit. I have to say that I really like this one. The first thing that stood out to me was the screw off top cap for filling. This is a definite plus for me on any pod device. Top fill is always my first choice if given one.

After the cap is removed there are two holes. One for filling and one for venting while filling. The holes don’t look big enough to fit a bottle tip but I was able to use a plastic 50ml bottle to fill the pod. Trust me, you don’t want to insert the bottle tip and give it a hard squeeze. Liquid will shoot out the opposite hole. I did this and had to clean the outside of the tank and wash my hands. Slow constant squeezing works best when filling. I noticed in the instructions that it said to fill the pod 2/3 full. I did initially on the first fill but after that filled it more and never had any leaking.

In the second picture below you can see that the drip tip is not a standard tip. It slides over the short stub on the top cap. It really didn’t bother me since the tip included was comfortable to use but some may not like that they can’t use their favorite tip.

I thought it was a nice idea that Voopoo put not only their name on the top cap but also put Adapt ITO coils on the cap. The coils are a push in type and you can see that there is a flat spot on the bottom of the pod. There is also a flat on each side of the bottom of the coils that you have to align with the flats on the pod when pushing them in or they will not seat properly and will leak. The kit I received came with a .5 ohm coil and a 1.2 ohm coil. The .5 coil inserted easily but I struggled a little with the 1.2 coil trying to get it inserted properly.

I almost forgot to mention that on either side of the pod is a small detent ball that helps to securely lock the pod into the mod opening. It is a very secure connection and will never come out accidentally. It takes a bit of effort to pull the pod out.







Now let’s take a look at the mod itself. To me it’s a rather ingenious design. The mod has a 1250mah internal battery which allowed me to use it through 3-4 fills of the pod before needing to charge it.

The back side of the mod is wrapped in a padded leather and in my opinion looks really nice with the DRAG Q name stamped into it. Near the top of the back side is the Gene name and below that is the airflow/ power adjuster. Yes, this one turn wheel controls both. The mod is marked with a + and – above the adjuster. If you put your ear close to it while turning you can actually hear a slight series of clicks as you turn it. To me this can be helpful in telling where you have it set. It’s a little hard to see unless you have plenty of lighting but there is an indicator mark on the turn wheel itself also. A really cool idea in my opinion. The actual airflow opening is inside the pod opening of the mod along with the two spring loaded contacts. The USB-C charging port is located on the bottom of this one so you won’t be standing it up to charge which is never really a big deal to me.









On what I will call the face of the mod is a long LED light bar which illuminates when you press the button to fire or auto draw. Without activating the output you can turn the adjustment and watch as the LED light bar illuminates more or less to indicate the output level.

Like I mentioned, the mod can be fired by pressing the button or just using the auto draw. After a period of time of not using the fire button, it will become inactive and only auto draw will work. However, to use the fire button again simply press the button once to wake it up and the second press will activate the output. The LED light bar also indicates the battery level as follows.

Green = full 100 to 60%

Blue = half 60 to 25%

Red = recharge needed 25 to 0%

The operation of the Drag Q is as follows.

• Click the fire button 5 times fast, to turn the device on and off.
• After 5 minutes of inactivity the device will lock itself, to continue to vaping press the fire button.
• Adjust power and airflow – rotate the turn screw dial – this will adjust the output and airflow to match each other.
• I read that you can adjust the airflow without adjusting the power by holding the power button while turning the airflow wheel. I couldn’t tell if it made a difference unless I was doing it wrong.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

In my opinion, Voopoo has done a really nice job with the Drag Q. A few of their auto draw devices I’ve tested in the past had to have the airflow choked down almost all the way to get the auto to work. This one worked much better.

I really like how compact the Drag Q is for a 1250mah device. The light bar and the airflow/ output adjuster is a really well designed and executed idea. I don’t miss having a display screen with being able to see not only where the adjuster wheel is with the indication mark on the wheel and the markings on the mod but you also get the visual confirmation with the LED light bar. I felt like I got very good battery life from the Q using both of the coils. You might be thinking that I don't have any cons or issues with this device. There’s always something. I ran the .5 ohm coil for about a week and at that point I felt like it wasn’t really wicking properly with my 70vg/30pg liquid that I mix myself. Initially the .5 coil was great. Good flavor and it was a good fit for my style of vaping.

After that I switched to the 1.2 ohm coil. It was not a great experience from the beginning. For some unknown reason I had difficulty getting the coil to seat properly into the pod tank. I did finally get it installed. Just like with the .5 coil, I filled the pod and let it sit for about an hour while I did other things. From the start the flavor seemed a little weak compared to the .5 coil and didn’t feel like it was wicking properly with the same liquid I had used with the first coil. Over a period of a few days it just didn’t seem to get much better. I have to think that I got a defective coil. I couldn’t say that for sure since there were no extra coils sent with the kit.

Overall I did enjoy testing the Voopoo Drag Q and would like to try it again with a different 1.2 ohm coil. I really liked the .5 ohm coil the best and if I was going to purchase more coils then that would be the ones I would get. I feel like it may have performed better with a liquid with a lower VG percentage but I mix all of my liquids 70vg/30pg and that’s what I use to test review samples. So, would I recommend the Voopoo Drag Q to you? I think I would. For such a small compact device the battery lasts a long time and the flavor was good with the .5 coil and it produces plenty of vapor.

► VooPoo Drag Q; First Impressions:
VooPoo is one of the few Chinese companies that seems to take the MTL type vape into high consideration and does so with sometimes surprising innovations, in its most performing devices (like this one) it uses the technology of ITO replaceable coils. Today we will talk about a new MTL Kit that really impressed me, it's Drag Q! You can easily understand from the name which product line it belongs to; Fine decorations, selected materials, miniaturized form factor and great handling are the first positive features that can be immediately observed in this captivating and light All-In-One.





► VooPoo Drag Q; Usb Type-C:
On the bottom of Drag-Q there is a soft gray rubberized coating, I like this type of finish as it makes the mod silent when you place it on the table, it also offers a good grip in contact with the support surface. The integrated 1,200mAh battery is recharged via a Type-C socket, the Drag Q charging time of only 40 minutes further enhances this item by reducing waiting times.



► VooPoo Drag Q; Design:
In the side view of Drag Q you can see how the oval form factor tapers towards the front and the design is focused on the search for maximum comfort. The classic brown leather decoration of this sample, the black color of the tank and the frame of the mod, give this object a pleasant "vintage" effect.



In the back (handle) you can see the distinctive element in common with the Drags line, it is the usual and captivating hot branding with the name (Drag Q), above it there is a large toothed crown entirely made of sturdy metal. This ring gear is the AFC rotating system with its references and notches for adjustment.

On the front there is the Fire button. The Mod is turned on / off by pressing the key 5 times, while to avoid accidentally pressing the key, the function is blocked after 5 minutes of inactivity. However, the automatic inhalation function always remains active. So to resume the vape you need to suck or press the button 3 times to reactivate it.



► The led bar on Drag-Q indicates the battery charge status as follows:
• The light bar is red: 0-30%
• The light bar is blue: 30-60%
• The light bar is green: 60-100%



► VooPoo Drag Q; Sinchro AFC / Led:
The synchronous adjustment of the AFC system is something never seen before! It is a truly innovative system as well as functional, in fact the rotation of the toothed crown immediately appears "premium", like adjusting a refined wristwatch, hence the name (Ticking Of Intelligence). The AFC adjustment allows the chip to intelligently calculate the most suitable power to be applied instantly to the coil and according to different parameters; opening degree of the AFC, type of coil used, force applied to vape. The adjustment operations, are accompanied by more or less accentuated luminous signals of the LED, depending on the degree of opening of the AFC. Science fiction! Furthermore, all this is able to effectively prevent steam overheating and dry running of the coil, extending its duration. The power supply of the AFC system is hidden from view, the passage of air towards the coil occurs in the space between the tank and the upper part of the Mod through a slot with a half-moon shape. This AFC adjustment was designed by VooPoo to make performance more stable and to prevent e-liquid leaks. Drag-Q to the test of facts offers a very wide range of control, ranging from a very narrow MTL vape to a pleasant airy RDL vape. Both manual / automatic activations are instantaneous, the automatic one is perfect, and with any degree of AFC opening.



The pod compartment is obtained directly inside the AFC adjustment crown. On the bottom of the compartment there are the two gold-plated contact pins and the automatic puff activation sensor. The first thing you notice inside the pod compartment is the absence of the classic magnets, but we will see later what VooPoo invented to superbly combine the cartridge with the Mod.



► VooPoo Drag Q; Innovative Pod-Tank:
VooPoo has always been one of the companies that first bring innovation, it was the first to do it with the circular Pctg magnetic tanks that have been copied by everyone, and now it does it again for the first time with a new tank coupling system. in the pod which is devoid of magnets, but is equipped with a new and very valuable mechanical type attachment (Pinball Buckle Design) which consists of 3 small spring-loaded steel balls, the system represents a real innovation for the connection between the device and the cartridge. Pinball Buckle Design System seems to be made in a robust and long-lived, flawless, precise and perfectly functional way. I believe this new type of cartridge coupling will soon be copied by all of VooPoo's competitors.



For the rest, the tank has a classic conformation. The top cap can be removed by means of a 1/4 turn rotation, so you quickly access the two filling holes that allow you to insert up to 3.5ml of e-liquid. A detail of the filling holes is their elasticity, since the holes are inserted in a silicone rubber cap, they expand when the tip of the bottle is inserted, facilitating the filling operation even with rather wide tips. The Drip-Tip is proprietary and non-replaceable, however I like it for how it is shaped, I think it is perfect for MTL / RDL and I don't think I will regret the fact that it cannot be replaced.



The ITO coils are inserted from below by pressure, and the two flat sides of the coil must be correctly positioned before pressing the coil inside the tank.



► VooPoo Drag Q; ITO Coils and Vaping test:
In the Drag Q Kit there are two replaceable Coils; a 0.5Ω Ito-M0 (18-25W) and a 1.2Ω (08-12W) Ito-M3 which should guarantee MTL / RDL performance (the first) and purely MTL performance (the second). The ITO Replaceable Coil Platform provides two other Drag Q compatible options and they are; a 0.7Ω M1 coil with a 14-18W range and a 1.0Ω M2 coil with a 10-14W range.

Of course I tested the two coils supplied in the Kit, and to do this I used an e-liquid consisting of 50-50 VG-PG, 4mg / ml of boost and Crispy aroma. This is my impressions:

• ITO Mesh Coil M3 1.2Ω (08-12W):
A coil that is undoubtedly suitable for those who want a low-powered restricted Puff to taste creamy e-liquids or tobaccos that are not too aggressive towards the coil. In fact, the coil performed well with my Crispy 50/50 e-liquid with 4mg / ml boost, providing a well-balanced flavor with decent vapor production and a quite pungent "Hit" type.

• 0.7Ω ITO Mesh Coil M1 (14-18W):
My favorite coil, perfectly suited to my needs of hot and full-bodied vapor, gives my "Crispy" all the aromatic notes I want, and also amplifies the boost present in the e-liquid to the maximum. Both resistances pass the test with flying colors and reach a very high level of general performance, but above all the coils have never shown worrying condensation formations.



► VooPoo Drag Q; Final conclusions:
Finally a smart MTL device that works really well! Innovative in several aspects, I like, in the first place I put the circuit that has several automatic functions that make life easier for the user. The suction automatism works wonderfully well, the chipset automatically adjusts different parameters according to the type of coil used, such as; AFC opening degree, suction pressure and more, the puff is always well calibrated and without spitting or failed activations. I also consider the automatic key deactivation function a smart choice by VooPoo, because it avoids unwanted activations. I had never seen the interlocking solution of the tank with spring loaded spheres before, I was surprised because this application is more stable and precise than any other Pod system with magnets! The AFC control is also a masterpiece of precision and with a particularly extended range of use, ranging from super closed MTL to rather airy RDL. I believe that Drag-Q can satisfy you all with its AFC adjustment assisted by a sort of smart-potentiometer that calculates different parameters to give the user the perfect vape! Depending on the intensity of the light, the brightness of the LED indicates the degree of AFC aperture / power we are using, indicates the battery charge level and contemplates the protection notifications. The battery seems to guarantee a very good vaping autonomy and only takes 40 minutes to fully recharge. Along with all these positive technical aspects, a high degree of finish could not be missing, which has always been a valuable feature of VooPoo's Drag devices. The compact size and the absence of defects make VooPoo Drag Q a very interesting and definitely winning MTL / RDL device!

These tests below only note my personal ESTIMATED ratings for the batteries I tested at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not a genuine Samsung, Sony, Murata, LG, Panasonic, Molicel, or Sanyo can change at any time! This is one of the hazards of using “rewrapped” or batteries from other manufacturers so carefully research any battery you are considering using before purchasing.

Misusing or mishandling lithium-ion batteries can pose a SERIOUS RISK of property damage, personal injury, or even death. They should never be used outside of a fully protected battery pack and you use them at your own risk. Never exceed the battery’s true continuous discharge rating (CDR), never let it get colder than 0°C or hotter than 60°C, and keep the plastic wrap and top insulating ring in perfect condition. Never use a battery that is physically damaged in any way.

Testing batteries at their limits is dangerous and should never be attempted by anyone who has not thoroughly studied the dangers involved, understands the risks, has the proper equipment, and takes all appropriate safety precautions.

If the battery has only one current rating number, or if it only says "max", then I have to assume the battery is rated at that current level for any type of discharge, including continuous.




Test Results
It’s been over five years since I tested the NCR18650GA. This was a great performer back in 2016 but it has a lot of competition now and I wanted to see how they compare.

The cells I just tested didn’t perform quite as well as the ones tested in 2016 but I don’t think anyone would notice the difference.

The NCR18650GA performs almost as well as the EVE 33P and LG MJ1 but the Molicel M35A is still a bit better at both 5A and 10A. The Samsung 35E3 (not the 35E) is also better at 5A. This doesn’t mean the NCR18650GA is a crappy cell! It it still a decent performer and could be a great choice if available at a lower price or those other cells are not available.

It has some confusing capacity ratings:

• 3300mAh “Rated Capacity”
• 3350mAh “Minimum Capacity”
• 3450mAh “Typical Capacity”

There are ambient temperature differences for the first two ratings and notes and “fine print” for all of them. I picked 3300mAh since it’s the Rated capacity and that’s what I use for all cells but these cells delivered over 3500mAh in my testing. What matters though is how long they run compared to other cells, that is, what their E-Score is. Check my 18650 Ratings Table (link below) for that.

While you can run this cell at 10A I recommend staying below about 5A-7A to help reduce voltage sag, improve performance, extend cell life, and reduce risk. Especially if the cells are in a battery pack where they heat each other up.

The two cells I tested delivered 3507mAh and 3520mAh. This is great consistency and is typical of cells from the big manufacturers. The cells I tested exceeded all three capacity ratings.
