Does anyone know the best gauge and type of coils to use for the hellvape Dead Rabbit 3 RTA (the J edition, think it's the same as the 2024 model) This is my first buildable and I'm not sure what kind of metal coils to buy, the material, the kind (alien etc.) What gauge for the hole in the coil (I believe that's what the gauge refers too) and what size, kind of cotton to buy. I had just recieved my geekvape zx ii rta with mesh and I bought $30 in mesh and cotton, all the wrong stuff. Hoping to not have to learn the hard way again. Any help would be great. A Texas Senate committee moved forward with its own PMTA registry bill — SB 1698 — last night. If approved, this legislation would prohibit 95% of the nicotine vaping market.

I've been using an ego-c twist battery with a Smok Micro Core Coil and tank for years, maybe since 2015. I stocked up on them and had hundreds of them until recently. I'm now down to 3 boxes of 5 each and I have to consider using something else. The thing is, I've been away from this forum for a long time and now I'm finding out I don't know what's out there anymore. I love the pen style and would prefer to stick with that but I don't know what coils go with what tank anymore. I don't want to pick something and then find out it won't be available in the future. If there was a substitute for the Micro Core I would use it but I'm not aware of any. Any suggestions for a tank and atomizer combo that would work with ego threaded batteries (I have billions of them) and have a similar look. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

The Exceed PCC is Joyetech's modern take on the classic pen and powerbank combo.
The main focus was making the Pen usable even without constantly carrying the powerbank (referred to here as the Case).
To keep things modern, the Case also features a neat display to monitor key information and serves as the actual control circuit for the Pen, allowing a high-capacity battery to be fitted without the need for constant recharging.
The unit shown in the pictures was kindly provided free of charge by Joyetech; I am not affiliated with them and have not received any form of compensation for this review.



The packaging is very well done, featuring a textured plastic lid that lifts off easily.
The box itself is made of heavy cardboard, with internal foam padding to protect the contents.
On the side, alongside the specifications, there's also a scratch & check sticker to verify the product's authenticity through Joyetech's website.



Inside the box, you'll find the Exceed PCC Pen and its Case, with a 0.8-ohm Replacement Pod Cartridge already installed.
A drip tip is pre-installed, and a second one is included in the same pouch as the USB Type-C cable. There's also a user manual and a warranty card.



The Joyetech Exceed PCC is made up of two parts: the Case (also referred to as the power bank in other devices) measuring 103 x 49 x 22 mm, made of aluminum with faux leather inserts.
It weighs 83 grams and houses a 2000 mAh battery.
The Pen uses the same material, measures 116.4 x 17 x 17 mm, weighs 35 grams, and has a 600 mAh battery.
Once the 2 ml pod is filled, the total weight is about 120 grams with a combined 2600 mAh battery capacity.



First encounter: the Joyetech Exceed PCC Replacement Pod Cartridges — or simply Exceed PCC Cartridges — which are pod + integrated coil units, sold in packs of three.
They offer a 2 ml capacity and are made of glossy smoked PCTG, allowing for easy visibility of the e-liquid level.
The Exceed PCC comes with two drip tips: one pre-installed and another packaged alongside the USB Type-C cable.
Both have a bore diameter of about 5.3 mm, follow the standard 510 connection, making them compatible with other atomizers using the same fitting, and can be swapped for tighter or different material drip tips if preferred.



Refilling is done via a silicone plug.
The resistance value of the internal coil is printed on the base of the Cartridge.
On the side, there’s the airflow intake hole, while on the bottom, magnets ensure secure contact and enable auto-draw detection.
Available Exceed PCC Cartridges:

- 0.8Ω (10~18W)
- 1.2Ω (6~12W)
- 1.4Ω (6~11W) (only prefilled)

As for the draw, it leans fully towards MTL (mouth-to-lung), not extremely tight but far from the loose RDL (restricted direct lung) that some brands offer.
Performance with the 0.8Ω Cartridge is exactly what you'd expect from a mesh MTL pod — highly flavorful, even at the minimum recommended wattage (10W), with a pleasantly smooth vape.



The pod can be inserted in two correct orientations to align the magnets, indicated by two small arrows on both the Pen and the Pod shell — very discreet, preserving the clean design.
To check the remaining liquid, the pod must be removed once it runs low, as most of the shell covers it for stability and safety.
The fixed, non-adjustable airflow hole is also visible.



The USB Type-C port is located on the bottom of the Pen, allowing you to recharge its 600 mAh battery independently from the Case.
Charging supports 1A, a choice likely made by Joyetech to preserve battery lifespan as much as possible.
Depending on the remaining battery level, it takes about 40–45 minutes for a full recharge.



The connection between the Exceed PCC Case and the Pen is made through three gold-plated spring-loaded pins.
When carrying the Pen and Case together, it's recommended to always use the magnetic strap to avoid stressing the pins and preserve their functionality.
At the bottom of the Case's slot, there's a small recess that prevents the Pen from accidentally slipping out.



Once the Pen is installed in the Case, this is pretty much what you'll always see: the RGB LED turned on, indicating the charge level (details on color codes coming up).
To vape, you don't necessarily need to remove the Pen from the Case — the drip tip protrudes enough to allow comfortable vaping, similar to an AIO device.



The faux leather insert on the Case body and the strap may vary slightly in texture/stitching depending on the color option (be cautious of stains).
The magnet is placed underneath the golden plate engraved with "Joyetech."
The bottom of the Case is marked with CE and disposal logos; it can stand upright, though it's not perfectly stable even with the Pen inserted.



The display is generous and appears much brighter in real-world lighting conditions.
The fire button is only used for navigation and wattage setting, which will be explained later.
The USB Type-C port on the Exceed PCC Case supports 2A charging — double that of the Pen — meaning it takes about an hour to fully recharge the 2000 mAh battery, depending on how discharged it is.



The Joyetech PCC chipset installed in the Case not only uses the display for essential information but also allows customization of the Pen's bottom RGB LED and wattage adjustment.
The battery level indicator isn't exactly the most intuitive, as it uses six bars to represent the charge:

- 6 bars: 100% - 86%
- 5 bars: 85% - 71%
- 4 bars: 70% - 56%
- 3 bars: 55% - 41%
- 2 bars: 40% - 21%
- 1 bar: 20% - 5%

Navigation:

- 3 clicks on the fire button: enter wattage selection mode
- 4 clicks on the fire button: cycle through the 4 LED indicator customization modes

The Pen's RGB LED can change color depending on the remaining battery level:

- 100% - 70%: Green
- 70% - 30%: Blue
- Below 30%: Red

There are 4 modes available for setting the LED indicator (and vibration) at the base of the Pen:

- M1: LED lights up according to battery level – no vibration
- M2: RGB LED blinks in 3 colors – no vibration
- M3: LED lights up according to battery level – vibration every 100 puffs
- M4: RGB LED blinks in 3 colors – vibration every 100 puffs

Each pod has a recommended wattage range that can be adjusted to avoid overpowering and extend cartridge life:

- 0.8Ω: Recommended 15W, adjustable between 10–18W
- 1.2Ω: Recommended 11W, adjustable between 6–12W
- 1.4Ω: Recommended 11W, adjustable between 6–11W (only prefilled)

Protections:

Low Voltage: when the Pen drops below 3.3V – 10 red LED flashes
Short Circuit: 5 LED flashes when inserted, 3 LED flashes if attempting to vape
Overtime: puff cutoff after 8 seconds – 5 LED flashes



You can vape in any situation:
- When the Pen is attached to the Case
- When the Pen is connected directly to a USB charger
- When the Pen is attached to the Case while the Case is charging via USB

When the Pen is installed in the Case, vaping is only possible through auto-draw — the fbutton cannot be used for vaping.
The Pen must be connected to the Case to adjust wattage or customize settings.



The biggest strength of the Exceed PCC lies in how Joyetech worked to make the Pen as independent from the Case as possible.
If I'm heading out for a short walk or just a few hours, the Pen alone is more than enough — 600 mAh usually covers it without needing frequent wattage adjustments.
And if necessary, I can easily recharge it via USB, all while enjoying the light weight and compact size similar to a disposable device.
On days when I need longer battery life, the powerbank option is there, boosting the total capacity to 2600 mAh, with the added bonus of fast 2A charging.
