Ok, what are the advantages over kanthal? Seriously.

It's a lot softer than kanthal, i dont think it has any spring, so its very easy to wrap and shape in comparison. It also has less resistance, so you will need more wraps to reach the same targeted ohms as your kanthal which will give you more wick coverage.
I think thats pretty much it apart from the taste, but then all wires taste a little dif, atleast at first

I agree with Slippy on everything he posted. I use it in my Cigreen X for surface area on regulated builds.

I wonder if anyone has that locally? A hardware store maybe?

You may get lucky and find it at a Craft store. I know when I was searching for it online, A LOT of the wires I found were for jewelry making. I got it online because, well, I'm lazy :)

So if I find 316 or 317 welding wire - that's what I'm looking for?

Has anyone here actually found it at like Michaels? Hobby lobby? Home Depot? Lowes? Anywhere? I'm impatient - I always want to go get it now, instead of ordering and waiting... It's a form of OCD I think. LOL

Well, it wont be "welding wire" in a craft store like Michael's. It would more than likely look like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0ETZ3KJH9YSBE5T4C7MW

Well sadly I never could find it locally, and never bothered ordering online... and I just re-read the thread, I don't think anyone every voiced an opinion if it was better or worse, except one poster who said it will taste different which is common when switching from 1 coiling wiring to another.

I know GPLAT was all the rage 6-8 months ago (about the time the this thread was created) but I guess everyone has now moved on to Ni200 and Titanium for TP and DNA40 type devices?

But just because, I'll ask again.......is anyone actually using 317L or similar welding type wire? does it improve your vape experience at all?

I use 316L. It's softer than kanthal in matter of taste. Less harsh in the throat. I prefer it very much over kanthal.
I use titanium wire without TC. Similar to 316L. Not harsh. Taste very clean.
I'm not sure if i prefer Ti or 316L and i still have to compare them once again and remove the Ti coil to coil again with 316L on the same atomizers (magma & magma 26650) in order to have a proper idea. It seems to me taste are more intense on Ti at least for sugary eliquid (personal very milky mother milk recipe).

I just received the 317L from mesh company. I didn't already test it. To follow (tomorow)
I just received the 304 from zivipf. I didn't already test it. To follow (tomorow or later).

Follow the tread to have further intel. will update daily.

So overall you give your vote to titanium? (or did I not understand your post?)
I can't decide myself which one i prefer. I have to test them both to give a proper opinion.
I will say for now i like them both.
316 seems to me smoother when titanium reveal more the different notes of the taste and is more intense..

I had insomnia and so i tested both 304 and 317L.

Unfortunately i had an hot leg on the 317L coil and the taste was very metallic. I could not solve the issue by moving the coil.
however I vaped for 10 min with it. Bad idea : i coughed for 1 hour after that.

When the cough disappeared, i tested 304 coil.
Taste seemed muted to me and the wire failed to reveal the custard and milky note of my delicate juice. It seem to me it also leave a kind of slight aftertaste.
The taste is the same this morning so the 304 will meet my kanthal in my closet.

I have now to coil again with 317L. I will test it again for the day. I will update this evening..

Hey guys,

The Crazy Wire Company in the UK are now producing SS317L for vapers, at their usual great prices (£2.50 per 10 metres / 30ft, about $3.70)

I found this thread googling to find out what it was!

They are branding it TMC wire and have it from 17 gauge to 24.

I'll put in proper links when I'm back at my PC.

Crazy wire company are where I've bought all my wire and I can highly recommend them. Huge range of types, gauges, and they have various kinds of pre twisted wire as well.

So I guess I'll get myself a spool or two of this stuff and try it out! Am I reading right that the key difference versus kanthal is low resistance hence being able to use more for flavour? And benefit over nickel is presumably that it's easier to work with?

I had hoped to try titanium as well based on recommendations to use it for temp control, sadly crazy wire aren't carrying that yet. But I'm going to give this stainless a try just to see!

EDIT: Updated with links

I didn't have time to coil 317L this morning. I'm doing it know.
I vaped on 304 all the day. 304 is now definitely out. The taste is dull and flat. And it leave a persistant metallic harch sensation on the tongue which interfere with food and drink.

I have to specify :
My coils are always diam 3 mm 9 wraps made with kuro Koiler in order to have a constant source of comparaison.
