I put out an electronic survey within various vaping social media web sites. I'm still fine tuning the results. But I have enough information to begin sharing. The research to date has focused too much on potential hazardsd of vaping and not at all on what has happened to people who have already been vaping for years. So I set about trying to collect information on people who have used e-cigs for long periods. So, the questions are, if e-cigs really do put out toxins, do they have any adverse health effects, if so, what are they. You can do a prospective study to look a how health changes starting from a given point in time going forward. But you can also collect similar information looking into the past. Here is a link to the results of my survey. I had about 500 patticipate in the survey, including about 120 who had used vapor products for 3 or more years. I think the results are fascinating.

I can't post a link yet. But I did upload the file on a separate post. I was going to try to edit it here and upload, but I can only uplad on a new post. So, here I am, first post here, glomming up the noobs forum.

I found it on the other thread, it was an interesting read. I am not surprised at the increased health benefits from switching from cigs to vape as I have first hand experience from being a 30 yr smoker to a 5 month vaper and all aspects of my life have improved.

I won't post just to increase my post count. Elsewhere it is called spamming. Rules are rules, gentlemen. 5 posts will get here quickly.
I am not a smoker, not a vaper. I was introduced to vaping by a friend who had used it to quit smoking. She had gotten her 30 year old son to quit smoking simpy be telling him he couldn't smoke in the house, but he could vape. He was adamant that he was not going to quit smoking. He would just vape inside and smoke everywherre else. He ended up quitting cigarettes within a month, not intending to quit. My son was a closet smoker, but discovered e-cigs on his own and quit. I had a 70 year old neighbor, smoking since age 10. He was able to quit (cigalikes believe it or not). Another friend, my now significant other, was also a closet smoker when we met. Needless to say she is now vaping. So I started doing research. There is a lot of controversy about the health benefits, but no one that I have seen ever actually took the time to ask folks about how their health had changed when they started vaping. So, I did. The changes are incredible. We can talk about theoretical dangers based on what is in them, or how they seem to affect cells, or individual organs, or genetic markers that might make a difference, but the proof is in what happens to the person, not in theory, but in practice. My study has about 500 respondents and is growing. Currently there are over 120 people who have been using e-cigs for 3 years or more. It is clear that not only do they feel better, but there are far fewer measurable adverse health events when you stop combustible tobacco products. Measured, documented and now reported. I now am co-owner of a vape store. As with others who have started this business, I am concerned about getting people to a clearly safer and measureably healther option.

I've heard of CASAA. I am a member of the TSFA. It is not surprising to see measured health benefits. What's surprising is that I have yet to find another similar study. If anyone here knows of one, or can find one, please let me know.

Not really surprising. Parties with a financial stake/interest in tobacco - and that's many - don't want to hear about it. Because then they're going to loose their last line of argument.

The 'we don't know' and the 'we don't know enough' excuses. So they last thing they want to is to ask the people who's life is most affected by it - the gents and gentesses at the other end of the mouthpiece.

So far, individual accounts of vapers reporting vast improvements in their life's quality have been discounted as 'anecdotal evidence' and 'isloated cases'. Deniability is what's it all about.

Honestly, I would not be surprised if someone offered you money for NOT pursuing this study...

I've been vaping for about 9 15 mo. I started to feel better after a couple of months and I feel much better now.

What amazes me is that there are still people that believe smoking is not harmful to ones health. There are some members here that still argue that point.

I assume that you wouldn't agree with those people. Am I correct in that assumption?

Are you asking me if I think smoking is bad?

Well Doc I gotta tell you my story:) I am a 64 year old Registered Nurse. I have been smoking since the age if 12 or 13 and smoked a pack a day from the age of 18. I had absolutely, nada, no desire to quit smoking. None. But in January of this year I had to go to another province to visit my mom who was in the hospital. It was the middle of winter I would be in the hospital a lot and staying with non smoking family otherwise.

Someone suggested an ecig. I bought an evod set and a couple of bottles of juice to take with me. Without even trying I reduced my cigarettes. I vaped in bathrooms and now and then stood out in the cold to have a smoke. By February 16 I returned home and I was smoking less than 1/2 a pack a day, by the end of February I could barely manage to smoke one cigarette they tasted horrible, smelled bad and were hot and nasty. I couldn't even stand to vape tobacco flavours. By March 1 of this year I have been Vaping only, I vape sweet juices. when I first started I used 18 mg/ml nicotine I now use somewhere around 10 mg per ml.

Because I plan on retiring the end of July I choose to DIY and make my own ejuice for about a buck a week. The last carton of cigarettes I bought was. $95.00 ( 68.00 of this was government tax) I will occasionally buy a 30 ml bottle of vendor juice for $20.00.I have not had one cigarette for almost for months and do not miss it one iota.

I currently work in a locked forensic psychiatric unit. I have lobbied to the best of my ability to permit the patients to vape, to teach them how etc. the Health authority so far has refused and instead permits only tailor made cigarettes to be consumed by our patients in the outdoor area. Many of these patients receive a total of $120.00 a month-most of their money goes on tobacco- it is the stupidest rule I have seen in a very long time.

And quite frankly borders on abuse of the mentally ill- it disgusts me.

Doc you will have a hard time finding them because the politics around Vaping and the money going in to protecting pharma and tobacco and government tax is way, way to big. I am glad you did what you did, I hope more will do so. thank you!

The tobacco flavors are great to use as an escape from combustible tobacco because it is a familiar thing. But the quicker you can convert to non tobacco flavors, the less likely you are to go back. The anti vape critics say the sweet flavors are to appeal to kids. The reality is as you say above. The tobacco flavors become awful as your senses recover. In fact, if you don't get away from tobacco flavors, you are less likely to be able to quit smoking.
