Not sure it is important but I quit smoking about 4 months ago, but decided I might try vaping. Was smoking about a pack a day of Marlboro Ultralights (though I preferred Lights). Plan is to vape 0% nicotine.

So, after reading a some reviews and posts here and other places, here is what I am thinking of getting:
  • Kanger SUBOX Mini Starter Kit
  • Efest 18650 2500mAh Flat-Top Battery
  • Nitecore Digicharger D2

Along with several flavors to try like:
  • USA Blend Tobacco E Juice Baker Vapor
  • Hawk Sauce E Juice Baker Vapor
  • Afternoon Delight E Juice Baker Vapor
  • German Chocolate Beefcake

Also, I love to tinker so I think I would like to play around with making my own coils so I am also thinking of getting:
  • UD Tech Master Kit
  • 26g Vapowire Kanthal Wire - 30ft
  • SmokTech Omnitester
  • Kanger Mini RBA Plus Deck for Subtank Mini and Plus
  • Comp Wire Clapton Coils by Wotofo (to try what this coil can do)
  • KOGA 100% Organic Japanese Cotton

I am not too worried about budget, just something that will last more than a couple of months and give me an excellent experience.

Am i going overboard?
What changes should I make to the above?
Any other thoughts (and I mean any... good or bad... I am plenty OLD enough to take it :)

Thanks!

Why do you want to start vaping
Fair question, let's just say I enjoyed the act of smoking. It was very relaxing to sit on my porch and enjoy a cigarette while staring out over the water. So it is either this, cigars, pipes or going back to cigarettes.

So... thoughts on what I posted and the questions I asked?

Hi @Mikla and welcome to the forum. It looks to me like a decent start. The only thing I would change is to get different batteries. Samsung 25r's (2500 mah), Sony VCT 4's or 5's, LG HG2's (3000 mah) , are some of the best. You can read about battery safety here:

Where to buy in USA
Illumn.com - Flashlights, Batteries, Carry Gear, Intelligent LED Lighting, and More!
Authentic AW Batteries - RTD Vapor
Liion Wholesale Batteries | Li-ion battery distributor
18650 Batteries | Rechargeable Li-ion | Battery Chargers
Earth's #1 source for IMR Batteries, Chargers, Cases & Wraps | IMRbatteries.com

You might look into also picking up some 24 awg Kanthal, it will allow more wraps at lower ohms. (I keep 24, 26 and 28 to play with) I'd suggest a trip to a local vape shop to sample juices to find flavors you will like rather than going by reviews.

Good luck in your journey.

Understood Mikla:), I would buy a basic subtank set up and some coils and some juice..........your choices seemed fine except id hold off on coil building until you get your feet wet, pick up at least 2 batteries possibly 4, best of success..........been vaping for almost 6 years and love it..........be careful, its Addicting :)

I'd ditch the Efest batteries and get some Sony VTC4 from a reputable dealer. Efest are just rewrapped older batteries.. I wouldn't trust them. Do a search right here on batteries. You'll see Efest are not good. Sony or Samsung are good quality batteries if you find a good dealer. I buy my batteries from illumn.com. Awesome prices.

Everything else looks fine.

Good Luck

Hi and welcome to the board. Those are all good choices. I'd offer a few suggestions: Stay away from Efest batteries. They are re-wraps of other cells. Batteries are probably the most safety-critical things you're going to be buying, so buy good ones. They are also often counterfeited, but @Sir2fyablyNutz above has linked you to several places where you can get what you pay for. For the mod you contemplate buying, I recommend Samsung 25Rs, or LG HE2s or HE4s, rather than the Efests. Those are solid 20 amp CDR batteries with good life and should serve you well. There's nothing wrong with that UD coil tool. I have one very much like it by a different manufacturer. That said, the one I actually use is a good bit simpler, being a simple stainless bar about 3" long, turned in steps at .5mm intervals, see the below photo. That one is on sale, last time I looked, over at myfreedomsmokes, for under 3 bucks. As has been said, I would suggest several different wire gauges, maybe add some 28 and 32. Those are the ones I use most of, and I coil things anywhere from .3 to 2.5 ohms, depending on what it is and whether it's me or the wife doing the vaping. Finally, I really like USAOhmmeters as opposed to the Smok or any of the others. Those cheaper ones often break, and it's always exactly when you need it most. Good luck, and stay safe out there :)

Wow... thanks for all the responses and links! I'll definitely get different batteries that are recommended, probably the Samsung 25Rs. Wire seems cheap enough so I'll just get some of different wire as well.

Never thought about going to a local vape shop... have to see where one is located in the So. FL area.

My wife is currently using GreenSmoke to help her quit, but she is not getting enough vapor and "feel"... so she may convert to something else if she likes what I get.

Are there certain brands of wire that are better than others?

Thanks again!

Ok... so now I am probably going off the deep end. I've been doing more research and thinking if I am going to do this, then maybe just go for it... or maybe I am crazy. Anyway, was looking at these:
Mod:
Reuleaux DNA 200
Lavabox DNA 200
VaproShark DNA 200

Drip Tip:
TRINITY COPA SHORTY DRIP TIP

RTA - Rebuildable Tank Atomizer:
Aromamizer RDTA (Velocity)

If I do Drip:
Velocity RDA

Have I gone too far now?

It's very easy to pick out good gear. The difference between this gear and the first pick is this set up is more conducive to lung hit vape as opposed to mouth to lung (which is more like a cig). You picked out better mods but I'd suggest a simple Kanger Subtank Mini which you can buy factory coils for or build your own on the rba deck. You can also lung or mouth to lung with the Kanger. I didn't care for dripping, I am more of a fill the tank and go kind of vaper. Dripping was too much maintenance as far as always keeping a bottle in one hand and the vape in the other.

You'll find your way. Good luck.

Thanks! I did not think about the lung vs mouth-to-lung differences. I suppose if I start with the Kanger and get into it then I can always get a DNA 200 mod. That will also allow me to try both types of inhalations. Maybe I'll run down to the local VaporShark and chat with them and check some stuff out. I can, at least, get some e-liquid and try a refill on my wife's GreenSmoke cartridges.

Of course the danger there is, once I am in a place with any types of gadgets... I HAVE to buy something! :)

Ok... so I just got back from VaporShark... great bunch of folks! After talking with them and trying out various things I settled on an iStick TC60W with a Aspire Triton tank. I figures I can always get a better tank for making coils later. So far I love it (though I don't have much to compare to). I am using the .4ohm coil at 28W in power mode. Will get some other coils later and try the temp mode.

After trying too many, the flavors I ended up with for now are:
VaporShark: Classic Tabacco
Traditional Juice: Black & Blue
Cuttwood: Unicorn Milk

I also filled my wife's GreenSmoke cartridges with Black & Blue and she loves it. Pretty easy to do based on a couple vids that show how to do it. I used a 3ml/18g syringe/needle to fill and it worked perfectly.

Thanks again for everyone's input! Will report back in other places as I move along with my vaping experience!

Oh... meant to add one more thing in case some other newbies are interested. I found it pretty easy to go from mouth-to-lung to straight lung hit. In fact, I find I enjoy it much more (in my limited time so far).

Of course the first time I did it was on a mod from one of the guys at the shop and I just about coughed a lung out since I was not used to the major in rush of vapor!
