I'm getting started with DIY and am trying to avoid wasting time and money on bad recipes and flavorings I don't need.

I've looked at a few recipe sites but so far, haven't found a site that does what I want, which is to easily identify recipes like (1)fruity flavors, (2)four stars or better, (3)minimum 25 ratings, (4) with three or fewer flavors.

It would also be great if the recipe titles were more descriptive, i.e. "Orange" instead of "Monkey ...." (which may be a great flavor, but doesn't sound like anything I want to put in my mouth), but that may be asking a bit much.

Any recommendations?

What do you like to vape?
Do you use retail juices you might like to mix at home?
What flavouring brands are you using or planning to use?
What mixing calculator are you comfortable with?

Have fun

You should be able to find what you are looking for on one of these sites:

Thank you! I've seen some of those links on the forum but was hoping to narrow things down a bit more. I'll start going through the list and see if I can find a site that does what I'm looking for.

At present, I'm looking for sweet, fruity flavors with lots of flavor and relatively few flavorings.

Some other members hooked me up with the EJuice Me Up calculator last night and that's what I'll be using.

I've been vaping a retail juice from a local shop for the last few years and have found 3-4 recipes that might come close, but nothing with enough reviews/ratings to indicate how good they might be. I'm not really looking to clone that flavor, though. I tried another local brew last week that tastes much better, but it's a small shop so I'm unlikely to find a clone of it.

I'm just starting with DIY so I don't really know anything about flavoring brands, but LorAnn and TFA seem to have a good rep here.

These might help:
Perfumers Apprentice flavors A - M review | E-Cigarette Forum
Guide to DIY Flavoring
http://www.lediypourlesnuls.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/DIYEJUICEFlavoringGuide.pdf
There are many many more reviews if you hit on the correct google search phrases. Each vendor/blender basically has their flavors reviewed.
I would not worry too much about brands to start off. Would recommend trying to get the best reviewed blenders flavor. In the end result, it's all about what you think is a good flavor.

I would suggest starting with some ONE-SHOT concentrates : OSDIYS/Mom and Pops/others.
Simple and very vapable.
As you get more adventurous, try some simple stand alones.
TPA Double RY4 ( I know not a fruit) is my wifes ADV for the last year. 10% D-RY4, shake and vape.

for example: OSDIYS Blue Raz slush and some TPA sweet cream.
Or DRY-4 and a drop or two of TPA hazelnut.

Start simple...Having to flush your work/$$$ is NO fun.

Cheers

That sounds like excellent advice, thank you! I didn't know about one-shot concentrates and I really don't want to buy a bunch of different flavorings and try a bunch of complicated recipes in search of a flavor I like; at least not as a first DIY mix. Blue Raspberry Slush sounds right up my alley, so I've ordered 120ml of it from OSDIY, as well as 15ml of TPA Sweet Cream.

Dang , the OSDIY is much more expensive than other places you can order from unless you buy their own personal flavors .

Oh well, live and learn. I assumed the Blue Raspberry Slush was one of their proprietary flavors ($9.49/120ml - seemed like a good price, plus I got a 10% EFA discount), and they didn't carry TPA Sweet Cream, so I wound up ordering that directly from TPA ($3.25/15ml).

You got 120ml of juice ready to vape for that price or 120ml of Raspberry Slush flavor , either is a very good deal actually .

I am probably thinking of someone else then.

OSDIY /Blue /raspberry slush is one of my adv,,,,yum. great flavor all on its own. If you bought 120 ml of flavor mix it @10%. If that is too light for you add another 2%.
I would try it first before adding anything else to it. Then if you want a creamy flavor you can always add.
And this is one of their proprietary flavors so you got a good price. They also have quite a few other proprietary flavors that are just as good. My next shopping trip with them, I am adding Lucky shot. I read it's amazing too.

Thanks, Sugar_and_Spice. I was going to have to ask how to mix it when it arrived - I appreciate the advance tip.

@Sugar_and_Spice - could I ask how you mix & vape OSDIY Blue Raspberry Slush? My first taste at 10% BRS, 40/60 (VG/PG), 6mg nic, in a single coil tank at 16W was more bitter than tasty.

I've banked it down a bit with Capella's Vanilla Custard and a dab of FW Cotton Candy and that mix is delicious, but I've heard so many raves about BRS that I think I must be doing something wrong with it

You are not doing anything wrong. Everyones taste is different. Next time you mix start @5%.
I personally just vape it straight @10-12%.

What I do, is mix a small bottle, usually 10-15ml. I have gotten to where I can taste a drop on my finger and pretty much tell if it is what I want. But it does depend on the flavoring itself.
Since I don't drip, I will fill a tank and take a few hits. Then if i need to add more, I just pour the tank back into the bottle to add another half % or full %. If you end up with it too strong then basically start over and put already mix liquid in a larger bottle. But this is just me. I have been at this for a while and pretty much know my favs.
On a recipe that has multiple flavors, I recommend Bill 100 drop test.

Thanks for that, Sugar_and_Spice. I know flavor is subjective and just wanted to check my work. I've read dannyv45's blog and will definitely check out Bill's Magic Vapor. Lots of good info to take in and process, but you and other ECF members have been extraordinarily helpful in getting me a running start. Great group of people here.

Thanks again!

It sounds like the BRS mix as it comes is not sweet enough for your taste preferences . By you adding a little Vanilla Custard and Cotton Candy you added the missing sweetness you found lacking in the standard mix alone.

I don't think you have to go down to to 5%, i think you now know to add a little sweetener thats all . Cotton Candy flavor is essentially just the sweetener Ethyl Maltol or you can go with the popular sweetener Suraclose.

Vanilla Custard works as you found out as well.
