So I just accidentally let a customer use one of my batteries for 2 hits just to try out her new rig, without even thinking that those batteries were married specifically for my SERIES box mod. One battery is on a 3.9V charge and the other is at a 3.8V. Is this okay to throw in to my box once they are both topped off at 4.2V or should I just buy 2 new married batteries?

It becomes a trust issue. Once one of the batteries strays, the other battery is going to go through several stages. The first will be the crisis stage. Initially, there will be anger, grief, shock and a sense of betrayal.
Seriously, next time just take a couple puffs on a mod with the other battery. What's good for the goose, is good for the gander. This whole "marriage" issue is getting a wee bit overblown.

I think you're fine marrying them back up again.
There just won't be much additional aging of that one battery from so little use.

I agree with @LouisLeBeau, the concept of marrying batteries has just gone way too far. It's just not very critical when recharging externally. That essentially "resets" 'the two batteries in terms of their marriage. And even if the batteries aren't well matched in terms of age and use, the high cutoff voltages our mods have will stop the discharge long before one battery begins to reach empty before the other.

Save that money you were going to use for new batteries towards another atty or mod. :)

I don't take much stock in the whole married battery thing. These are not matched for peak voltage time to discharge or internal resistance so what is the point really? The 2 HE2's in my Sig. 150 had a cople of weeks of useage in different devices. When I put them on my D2 it shows .02v difference. They have been in the Sig. for 3 months with zero problems. when you order batteries or get them at the B&M you don't know a thing about them then either ie how long they've been on the shelf etc. There's way too many variables to worry about.

I can agree to an extent. The reason I asked is just because I want to be as safe as I can and google search didn't really pop up anything. Humorous post though.

I think people should Always be thinking of being Safe when it comes to Batteries.

And if one has a Question, that is what the ECF is for.

I was just having a little fun. ;)
Since you work in a shop, it'll probably happen somewhat frequently. If you randomly grab one of the cells, odds are that each will get used fairly evenly.
I don't bother trying to "switch spots" either. IF it even matters in a serial device, just the randomness of just putting them in ensures a fairly even occurrence that they will be taking turns in both slots.
I label mine A1, A2. B1, B2. C1, C2. etc. I just make sure I grab two of the same letter when one of the dual batt mods needs freshies.

Wish I had done that with my AW IMR's. Not for marriage, just so I knew which ones were the oldest. I guess I need some kind of device to measure their capacity or something, as my oldest are about 3 years old and my newest about 1 year old. However, there doesn't seem to be a noticeable difference in the drain time.

Happens literally all the time. We even accidentally take each other's batteries sometimes lol. Thanks for the replies and the help y'all. Much appreciated. On a different note, Series box mods are awesome.

I've got this sweet little label maker (Brother Ptouch) and I made a whole bunch of labels with my name and phone number. I stick them on ALL of my batteries. Just in case I lose a mod, there's a pretty good chance of it finding its way back home.

Brother P-Touch is a GREAT Label Maker!

Works Fantastic for Glass DIY Bottles also.

Whats funny about this is I ended up getting stuck into working 6 hours overtime yesterday. Didnt really have anything to do, just had to be an on call body incase of SHTF. I found a P-Touch label maker... Everything in the directors office got a label. Everything... Wall, floor, another wall, third wall, more floor, random box #1, pencil, pen, pen pen, monitor... you get the idea. I went through two rolls of label tape in there. He just got in to work about 20 mins ago... You could hear him yelling at me out in the parking lot. Somehow he automatically knew it was me that had done it. Guess my prank last year of hanging everything in his office from the ceiling upside down made some sort of memorable impact. :)
