I've been vaping for a week now, and am looking for advice/feedback on my gear/etc, and have a couple of questions.

**Gear
eGo C-Twist (1000 mah I think, took 4.5 hrs to charge from empty on wall charger)

Aspire ET BDC (with 2 spare BDC coils)

Chesapeake Vape Black Honey Tobacco 12mg 60PG/40VG (I think, the bottle is only labeled with maker/flavor/nic mg)**

I've gotten about 48 hrs per battery charge and approx 48 hours (give or take) on the 3ml Aspire ET tank. I feel like that's pretty good based on how often I hit the vape (nearly all the time vs 2-3 analogs an hour)

So far, it's been a pretty good week in that I've cut back on my 1.5 packs a day habit to .5 - .75 pack a day. The "craving" for a analog occurs mostly on waking, after a meal, leaving work, and a few other times throughout the day.

The only purchase I made thus far was the juice, as I got this gear from my Mom who did not like it due to the fact that it hurt the throat/almost made us gag.
A friend gave it to her and the juice was Dekang Turkish Tobacco 18mg.
I went to my local vape shop, and spoke to them about my concerns starting vaping, and after trying a few juices, I picked the Chesapeake Vape Black Honey Tobacco 12mg.

First real question - should I up my nicotine mg to avoid analog cravings? Just worried about it being too harsh and turning me off of vaping.

Second question - I feel like I'm looking to concentrate more on flavor than cloud production, and due to some internet research, have bought one BVC coil to replace the BDC coil that came with it. I read the BVC coil can produce more flavor. I'm also going for a low temperature vapor.
I've never really noticed a "throat hit" when smoking analogs, so not sure that I'm seeking that per se.

Any juice recommendations? So far, just decided to stick with a tobacco flavor to ease the transition, but am open to other ideas.

Also, the first few days I feel like I was "mouth-to-lung" hitting, and in the last 3-4 days I feel like I've been "lung" hitting. I generally hit the fire button, puff once or twice, and then inahle for 3-5 seconds

Portability - really wish I could just put this in pocket like a pack of analogs, but due to the length I've just been carrying in a front shirt pocket when assembled, and disassembled in an old hard-sided eyeglass case in my pant pocket, which makes it not very convenient.

Anyways, looking for advice/information/comments/etc and I'm sure I'll come up with more as I go along. Thanks for any/all responses. I'll also be cross-posting this a few places to ensure the widest audience.

I enjoyed this post - it's curious you never got replies as there are a lot of questions.

It's late here, but I'll make one comment.

3ml in 2 days is epic 'thrift' vaping. Even in the dark days of vaping 18mg or even 24mg using a K-Go (eGo) battery and 2.5ohm Vision clearos did I not manage to vape so little.

If you are struggling in any way, up the Nicotine or the power. You are not vaping much (which could be considered a good thing) but 1.5 packs a day is not insignificant by any means and you may not be matching that with your set-up and liquid consumption.

I can't believe you are vaping constantly... not really. It might feel that way (I guess) but in the general scheme of things, you are using very little juice.

:)

Well, I'm glad to know I'm on the thrifty side of the equation at this point :) The switch was driven by wanting to quit smoking and save $$.

I've upped the volts on my eGo Twist but the vapor is a little too warm for my taste. I'll try upping the nic in a trial 10ml so I won't be out too much if it's too harsh.

I just feel like I would have a 2 or 3 cigarettes in a hour, but always reaching for the vape now. I guess I'm chasing the nicotine fix and/or the other additives in analogs. I've cut back on analogs to around .5 to .75 packs a day so I feel like I'm on the right track.

Thanks for the response, and when/if I upgrade device/tank/etc we'll see where my consumption lands, or if I cut out cigarettes entirely.

Welcome Logg. It's normal to still crave cigarettes the first few weeks or so. It took me a few weeks to stop analogs completely, the hardest to give up was that first cigarette of the day. As long as you keep cutting back, you're on the right track. As far as juice suggestions, Halo Tribeca is a good one, but taste is so varied, most end up with a drawer full of unused juice. If you can try flavors at a vape shop, that's the best way not to overspend on juices. 12 - 18mg is a good starting place for a pack a day smoker. If you're having a lot of problems, there's WTA juices - whole tobacco alkaloid juice which is extracted from tobacco so it has more than just nicotine in it. My friend is having a hard time quitting so I bought her some and she said she's vaping more often using it.

Trying a higher nic juice to see if it helps with the cravings is a good idea. So is buying a small quantity to see if you can tolerate it. Another idea is to run two tanks, 1 with 18mg and another with 24. When the cravings get bad, pop on the high nic tank and vape it.

It has been my experience vertical coils are better for flavor than horizontal ones.

Direct lung hitting is going to be hard to do on that rig. It doesn't really flow well enough as it is intended for mouth-to-lung. It's like trying to breathe through a cocktail straw. They make tanks that flow more freely, but they are pretty much subohm tanks, and will use more power, making a warmer vape, and use a lot more juice. You'll have to make the call on that one. Somebody at your vape shop probably has one they'll let you hit to see what it's like.

I DIY my juice-- partly because of the expense, I like a free breathing tank and those drink juice-- so I don't really have any recommendations for you juice-wise. FWIW, I got off tobacco flavors very quickly and found they worked better for me. I prefer fruits and spices. YMMV.

Portability is an issue. The problem with those eGo batteries is they are long. It is possible to get a shorter but wider style. The iStick 30, for example is not a lot bigger than a Bic lighter, and no longer. Of course, it does have a tank sticking out up top. I won't get into squonk mods right now for you, but the smallest rig I own is a Reo Grand, which easily fits in a shirt pocket, see attached photos. Other options would be something like a Kanger Nebox or a Vapor Flask or an Innokin VTR, all of which are back pocketable and won't break if you do.

Sounds like you're on the right path. I go through 5 to 8ml a day. I'm not too familiar with your device. I used a similar device when I started out. I use the Evic VTC Mini now. If my memory serves me correctly, it took me 3 weeks to completely cut analogs. I was using 18mg nic and going through about 6ml a day of liquid. Before I purchase a new device, I come here and ask for advice. This site is loaded with experienced peeps. Good luck!

Thanks for all of the good information, Supr - I can see you are in the deep deep end :)
I'll work on dialing in my juice, then explore equipment upgrades. I had a friend recommend the iStick 60, and my B&M recommended a Nautilus tank. If I do get another tank for carrying an alternate nic level/flavor, I just want it to be something I can transfer over if I do get an upgraded battery. Doing my best to control costs.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the encouragement, Hemi - I've heard good things about the Evic VTC Mini for when/if I upgrade my device. It's a little daunting that I could end up using that much juice, as I'm switching mostly to try to quit smoking, but also to try to save $$ as well. I will definitely be asking a lot of questions and weighing options before spending big bucks haha

Thanks again!

An iStick 30 and a Nautilus is my go-to recommendation for people trying to quit. It's cheap, reliable and it works. The VTR is old tech, and limited to 20 watts, but I still like and use mine because the tank loop keeps you from breaking the tank off the mod if you sit on it. I use it on fishing trips or cutting the grass and the like so I can just slip in the back pocket of my jeans. It's now running in the $60 range-- not a lot more than you'd pay for an iStick/Nauti-- for a starter kit including a tank, and it works fine for high ohm, low watt, cool vaping. I thought of it because of your desire for pocket carry. The Vapor Flask and the Nebox will be a bit higher dollar. The beauty part of the Nebox is it doesn't have a tank, per se, or rather, an internal one, so there's no way to break it off.

Ach! I forgot. Dialing in your juice is job 1, without doubt. Vaping isn't going to work for you if you can't find juice you like and that satisfies the cravings. But bear in mind changing equipment may well mean you'll want something different in the way of juice when you do.

No problem!
I did spend a lot more than I really wanted to at the beginning. When you find the right juice and device, it gets cheaper in the long run. Pretty much everything they said above...Just have to find the right juice and device. After that, it's all good.

When I started I vaped at may be 10 to 15 watts and just a few ml's a day because that's all I could handle. May be get some 18mg nic in a flavor you already like and try that. If it's too strong you can always mix it with lower mg nic in the same flavor later. I think a beginner should be using 12-18 mg nic.

I started my brother on an iStick 20 and a nautilus mini and 14 months later he doesn't want to change a thing. Another choice that appears to be working well is the eLeaf Basic kit. It uses a proven tank, the battery should get you through the day without recharging and the setup is very small.

Just keep vaping and adjusting things and you'll make progress. There are things you need to figure out nobody can tell you. Patience helps.

Used the BDC coil that came with it for 9 days and have just installed the BVC replacement coil I bought. The BDC's came with the hand me down equipment.

I'm soaking the used BDC overnight in rubbing alcohol and will see if it can be cleaned.
For $2 each, and if the BVC lasts over a week as well, I can't see trying to clean it, and will just replace with new.

I'll try to report back later tonight or tomorrow on the BVC experience, as well as possibly attempting to clean the used BDC.

Really appreciate all the feedback and advice. Have a good night everybody!

Decided to not bother trying to clean the used BDC coil

So far, the BVC coil is working out great. Not noticing alot more flavor, but better draw & cool vapor. I "feel" like I'm getting the nicotine I need a little better as well, but I'll know better after a couple days I figure. Had to bump up my voltage from 3.3v to 4.3v but enjoying it thus far.
Just wanted to report in - I'll keep you in the loop as I move forward in this process.

Just wanted to say welcome and congrats on moving towards becoming analog free! It's definitely a trial and error process in the beginning to find what you like and what works for you, but so worth it in the end. I am about 8 months analog free and I am officially to a point where analogs hold no appeal to me whatsoever.

I am new to this forum and not an expert by any means, but my advice would be not to give up when you run into setbacks. You will find what works for you and then its smooth sailing! I've been vaping about 2 years off and on, it wasn't until I invested in a better setup that didn't frustrate me that I was able to totally quit analogs and really enjoy vaping :)
