yo,

i've got a few of these (PANASONIC 18650 NCR18650A 3100mAh $9.49 Li-ion battery | Made in Japan | Orbtronic USA)
and i really like them, a lot.

i'm trying to figure out the discharge on them, and cannot seem for the life of me to find it at all.

also, since the VTC5 is considered "thee" battery for mechanicals and subohm, i'd like to hear some thoughts on how these might measure up.

has anyone got both? hit me with some comparisons.

The Panasonic ncr18650A doesn't come even remotely close to the Sony in terms of maximum discharge current capability.

The Panasonic has a max discharge of 6.8A.

The Sony is 30A.

The Panasonic is not a high drain battery. The Sony is.

The Panasonic is not suitable for sub ohm use or even particularly well suited for use in a PV due to its chemistry. It is a hybrid that is much closer to a volatile chemistry ICR battery.

There are better batteries out there for use in a mod.

so should I look for the following to pick up for use in a mechanical mod? the panasonics I have seem to work fine all day in my vamo/aerotank at 1.8ohms ~9 watts.

Sony 18650 VTC5
Sony 18650 VTC4
Orbtronic 18650 SX30
The Panasonic's you have will work OK (but still are not the best choice due to their more volatile chemistry).

If you do end up building lower resistance coils and using a mech, the panny you have will not have the current delivery you desire, nor the safer chemistry you need.

Other batteries that are a better choice would be:

20 amp high drain batteries
LG 18650HE2
Samsung INR18650-25 both are 2500 mAh.

24A Aw 18650, 1600 mAh

10A
Panasonic NCR18650PF 2900mAh

All of the above mentioned batteries are better choices than the NCR18650A.

I know the Samsung and LG batteries provide longer runtime than the 18650a in my experience.

anumber1 I was curious to the OP's question when he asked about what is next in line after the Sony 18650 VTC5. Would the Sony 18650 VTC4 come in second on the list you made or no?

The Sony VTC5 is the unquestioned leader for true 30 amp (continuous discharge rating) batteries with 2600 mah. Xtar recently partnered with Sony to rebrand the Sony VTC5 under their own label. Xtar partners with Sony

Next would be the Sony VTC4, still with 30 amps continuous but only with 2100 mah. The purple Efest 2100 mah 30 amp battery uses the same Sony VTC4 cell. The Orbtronic 18650 SX30 2100mAh 30A has the same specs, and since they re-wrap other manufacturer's batteries too, this is likely a Sony VTC4 cell, also.

Don't be fooled by Efest's advertised 35 amps 2500mah battery. It's a re-wrapped LG18650HE2 with only 20 amps continuous discharge rating. Purple Efest Batteries Not As Advertised

And don't be charmed by the Panasonic or Obtronic NCR18650A 3100 mah or NCR8650B 3400 mah batteries. They are not high drain and only have 6.8 amps continuous discharge rating. These batteries are best used only in flashlights.
