Yeah I actually has the pico recommended as a cheap starter kit on this forum - I was looking for mod tank batteries and charger all for < 100AUD and I'm pretty happy with what I got.

I do sometimes now realise that this kit will not be my last. Eg the melo 3 was simply not flavourful, although did provide a decent tank for 12USD, but was leak free and suited both DTL and MTL. And got me off the death sticks of course.

Now upgrading the tank I'm looking at other mods.

Any recommendations for a 2 or 3 batt 18650 mod? My mates loving his new Wismec Reuleaux DNA200 at the moment, having upgraded from a single batt sigelei 75w.

Maybe I'll head over to the mod forum and check some vape porn this eve.

A few things. First, the Pico Mega takes either an 18650 or a 26650 battery. A 20A 26650 will last you a long time over an 18650. You might not be able to run the mod above 60W (20A is about the best you can do on a 26650 although the iJoy 26650 will be good for 30A according to Mooch) but it will last a very long time (~4,000 mAh).

If you want a nice small 2 battery mod take a look at the Smok Alien. I have one and am very happy with it, and it's pretty popular around here as well. That does take 2 18650s, so you're back to sourcing those out as well.

To help out on battery selection, here is a recommended chart along with their tested performance.

Given that I can get 2 26650 in serial in the mega... I reckon getting a couple batteries will be cheaper than upgrading the mod.

Am I right to think that the current draw will be shared across the batteries as the voltage will be essentially doubled with 2 in serial?

Thanks for the chart, I'll definitely be referring to that!

Edit- that smok is pretty sexy. Did you get it in the kit with the TFV8? Looking for feedback on that tank in particular.

The Pico Mega takes with 1 18650 or 1 26650. It does not to my knowledge take 2 26650s. The only mod I know of that holds 2 26650s is the Lux.

Your conclusion about 2 batteries in series is correct. It doubles the voltage. And I like that chart because it's easy to figure out what to get if selections are limited, and the rated CDRs are for real, not the inflated manufacturer's claims.

Now I am feeling dumb - but learning what I am talking about.

Indeed you are correct, and I had an image of a 26650 in mind which was certainly not correct.

Having googled the naming conventions of batteries I'm never going to be as confused again.

You're so polite for not calling me a dummy :) "uhh if it can't fit 2 18650 how the hell is it gonna fit 2 26650..."

Oh, I can do rude too if it would make you more comfortable.

Just realize if you go with a 2 battery mod, just because it says it will do 220W like the Alien, don't assume they're telling the truth. Watts law still applies, just with batteries is series. I use a simple rule, each 20A battery is good for 60W to 3.2V. 2 20A batteries 120W (maybe a tiny bit lower as the cutoff on the alien is supposedly ~2.9V). If you want higher, use the chart above to see which ones really are 25 or 30A.

Couple more things. Do yourself a favor and get a 4 bay charger. you might think a 2 battery will be fine, but believe me, you'll end up needing it down the road. Spend the extra few dollars now than kick yourself later.

I also saw in an earlier post you were thinking the DNA 200 from Wismec. The DNA 200, now 250 board is terrific for temp control. The software for it is excellent, but Win only, no OSX, so it's Bootcamp or a VM if you are a Mac user. It lets you customize just about everything.

Having said all that, the Reuleaux is a lousy choice. It's essentially the same as the RX200, and for the money you're spending you should get something built better. The RX uses thin wiring and a crappy 510, and you can get a DNA mod for the same price which is far better manufactured and supported. You can also go with a 2 battery DNA 250, but will be capped at 166W. Still, IMO, more than enough, and with the advantage of a smaller form factor.

I don't know your budget or prices in Australia. I think the Alien is an excellent mod for the price point, but it doesn't compete with any of my DNA mods. I do like it for size and toss in my pocket without much worry. Not a beater mod but not a higher end lets be gentle with it. If your budget does allow it, you should be a very happy camper. One last point. A DNA board (or in fairness a high end YiHi as well) is terrific at SS TC. The advantage to SS is it's easy to build with should you get into building your own coils, and unlike Ni or Ti can be safely used in either wattage or TC mode.

Yep for a xtar vc4 on strong advice along the same lines on this very forum.

Alien is an excellent mod for the price point

Will strongly consider it. 50usd from fasttech or 62 with the TFV8 Baby tank... Well within budget.

safely used in either wattage or TC mode

I'm loving the new crown tank, with the ss coils. Truth be told TC mode on the pico seems sketchy but this may be due to the legs of the coils being not ss - so I hear anyway.

Also purchased the crown RDA so yep, fun and frustrating times ahead.

Any experience with the tfv8?

Nope, never used the tfv8. Just about the only things I use are RTAs. I avoid factory coil stuff, at first out of fear for regulations in the US making them difficult to obtain, and then just because I can build a better performing coil for pennies compared to factory stuff. However, I do use factory coil tanks for things like traveling as they are simply easier to work with, and I'd rather pop something out of a blister pack than rewick a coil in a hotel room.

The Smok tanks are on a great roll between the Baby Beast, Big Baby, and now the tfv12 coming out. I've read good stuff on the tfv8 as well. Coils tend to be expensive, and generally require more power than say a Crown. If you do decide to get into building, I'd strongly encourage you to go with a dedicated RTA rather than an RBA head for a tank. The decks are bigger and easier to build on, and most RBAs are simply compromises built to fit regular tanks (as with anything, not all).

If you want to get into SS TC, I'd suggest a higher end mod like a DNA is the way to go. I do get reasonable SS performance out of my Alien, but it's not the same. I also only use my Pico in wattage mode. Some folks do use and like TC on it, but I'm not a fan. Adding in any issues specific to the coil you're using just makes it that much harder to sort out. The good news is if you use SS, you can go with wattage mode on mods that are not terrific at TC, and TC on those that are. It's just way more versatile than say Ni. It's also way easier to build your own coils with, so I view it as a win/win for wire selection.

And good call on the charger. I use a Nitecore, but have read a ton of good stuff about the Xtar here as well.

Oh, wait, we're doing mod and charger recommendations now?

Vaporesso Tarot Pro or Cartel Revenant. Both have the Omni Board, and that is an awesome board... on par with anything from Evolv or Yihi IMO... and lots less $ than either.

Chargers: the Enova Gyrfalcon All-44 is a champ... I have the All-88 and the All-44 at home, an Efest Luc S2 in the shop, and an Efest Luc V4 and Nitecore Intellicharger I4 at work... the All-44 beats 'em all.

A word about software... Mac or Windows aside... the new Arctic Fox FOSS suite for Wismec/Joyetech/iStick is on par or better than Escribe. Kanger also has an Escribe wannabe, and there's the (pretty awful) SXIQ for Yihi.
