Ok guys, went shopping instead of going online because we had a snow day. Just a heads up for anyone making a jig involving a fly fishing reel ala Super... do not get the pan fish fly fishing kit from Walmart, it does not have adjustable drag as advertised!
I'll be getting a reel from...
Ok turbo, any chance you could see a zebco 33 reel (spool 90° from rod direction) not working? I planned to mount it at a right angle and use the drag the way Russ does without the rod in a smaller package.
Thoughts?
Robin, yeah I'm ok. They kept me overnight to make sure that it wasn't an ongoing heart attack and only let me out when the lab work confirmed it. I already have a cardiologist from an existing heart condition so they are shipping me off to him for more testing to see what damage there has been...
Ok, so basically, speaking in terms of something stretchy like an elastic band... we are stretching the wire so that as it relaxes back to its natural diameter it pulls itself into the coil... right?
A very gross explanation but am I following correctly?
Tiger-
That was my first thought, when the first build crashed i tightened the screws till they nearly snapped the 22ga. I'm thinking positive insulator since the positive post spun once already.
Thanks for the reply, I'll keep you posted. Hope I can figure it out, the rda almost matches...
Ok build junkies, I've got a problem with an rda that's driving me insane so I'm bringing it here to get some opinions on it.
First the specs:
22ga kanthal a-1
6/7 wrap around 3mm mandrel with tension
Dual coils
Mounted in a Little Boy rda
Now the issue:
I've put 2 builds in this rda and...
And speaking of coil jigs that are small but functional and may have a small implied tension, has anyone seen this?

The coil master jig at Lightning Vapes, it works similar to a pin vise but gives you a bit of a lever to help...
Exactly Mac, thanks for the info Bro.
Too cold for work today so I'm working on my jig and comparing methodologies between constant physical tension and tension applied by hand to a coil with the same specs. I'll keep you all posted with the info as I get them done.
Here goes nothing!
Bill, I know I've seen it before but thanks for the link for the cobra coiler. It saves me from fabricating one from scratch.
I work with larger gauge wire so I went with a more standard reel, the Zebco 303. I'm planning to modify it to remove part of the casing and use it as the tension...
