Brass and copper smell bad. They pit and they decay. Aluminum is soft and the threads are not solid. Pretty much leaves you with SS if you want something that lasts. Or an alloy. I prefer titanium if I hv a choice.
Come to think of it the reason my RWs might be lasting longer is that I build primarily butterfly coils and the cut ends are lassoed down. The only time I have have degradation of one of these was a straight, short wick that frayed. The 2mm doesn't move as much liquid but is seems to be less...

I have had none of these issues. After about a month of daily dry burnings on both sizes I pulled them out tonight and washed, torched and recoiled. Completely clean and white again. They look and taste like the first day I used them. Seem to be indestructible.
