Okay, so my first build with the Koh Gen Do wasn't fancy. Simply to compare similar builds with a new wick in the Heron.
My coil is a 28ga 7/8 wrap 2.4mm mini coil. It's hovering between 1.3 and 1.4 ohms. I normally pull one full strand of SnC through the coil to get a full loop to put through the cotton topper and this is my standard setup.
This time, I cut one wick strand (along the long edge of the KGD pad) between 2 and 3mm wide and proceeded to loop and pull as normal.
Verdict? Works great! No break in time needed and wicks faster, with better vape saturation than the SnC, but only by the smallest of margins.
This might be all in my head but I do believe that the KGD produces a bit more vapor than my comparable SnC setup.
So, the results are close but further testing is needed to see how this wick holds up for me. I vape rather clear liquids so I don't gunk up very quickly but we'll see.
I think where the KGD wins is:
1. I don't have to boil it and it remains mighty fluffy through installation and use so far.
2. I designed my coil size around the SnC so I could pull a full strand through to make my single loop. Because the KGD can be cut so easily to size I think it's more flexible for my coil building so that I can pull the full loop (with smaller diameter wick) through a smaller coil and still maintain my wick's shape with loop.
3. I've never been very consistent in wick size when pulling cotton from ball. KGD gives me much more repeatable, consistent results and it's a breeze to size and cut.
I'm liking it initially.we'll see how this wick performs through a few more
tanks...
