Minding Your mAhs – Ep020 – How hard can we “pulse” our batteries? Can we know?

I’ll PM you regarding supporting my testing efforts as I don’t want to violate any rules here. Thank you! I probably won’t be doing any charger testing due to the amount of time it takes and the huge number of questions I would get each day on top of all the ones I already receive.

Minding Your mAhs – Ep020 – How hard can we “pulse” our batteries? Can we know?

Many vapers run their batteries at above the continuous discharge rating (CDR). How hard can we run them and still be relatively safe? Are we able to pick a number? Or are we forced to stay below the CDR because we can’t really know. I take a look at some of the issues and science involved with...

Bench Retest Results: Sanyo NCR2070C 20700...fantastic performing 30A battery

These tests below only note the estimated ratings for these batteries at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not a genuine Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic, Sanyo, or Molicel can change at any time! This is one of the hazards of using “rewrapped” batteries or batteries from other...

Tootle Puffers, Part Three! (The Sequel of the Redux)

Posted in the Batteries section here on ECF too. :) When do you buy new batteries?

    Sony VCT5A Batteries

Yes, exactly. I test to below 3.2V too. :) It was just to point out that looking at the 2.5V numbers doesn’t always reflect their performance when we use them (with a much higher cutoff point).

When do you buy new batteries?

Assume perfect physical condition for each and never dropped. What else would make you replace them? - On a set schedule? - When they run for a shorter amount of time or start giving you too many low/weak battery alerts? - When they don’t hit as hard? - When they start running warmer? - Only...

    Sony VCT5A Batteries

Look what happens at a typical vaping cutoff though, around 3.2V (about 3.6V when put on a charger). The results change a bit. :)

    Next Project

Check YouTube. IIRC, there were some Arduino based battery analyzer projects. But your standard Google searches should come up with some stuff too. Capacity is easy to check but internal resistance can be really tough to measure accurately and consistently. Your contacts for the battery will be...

Fake Samsung 30T update, testing is done

Please do not send me photos of your cells for authentication. Check the images in the link below and contact the vendor if you think yours are fake. I tested 30T’s from four vendors and some sent by vapers (Thank You!). There are at least three different cells being used for these fakes, all...

Minding Your mAhs – Ep19 – Is pulse battery testing more “real world”?

It’s as objective as it can be. It’s based on testing and the DC internal resistance numbers.

Minding Your mAhs – Ep19 – Is pulse battery testing more “real world”?

I don’t think we can say that as the aging of different cells occurs at different rates. Their cycle life could be different, negating any IR advantages one or the other might have at the start.

Mooch I'm in need of your expertise

There aren’t any vape approved batteries but you might find some protected batteries at www.rtdvapor.com. Try posting your question to everyone also as users of protected batteries might see it and let you know where they bought theirs.

Minding Your mAhs – Ep19 – Is pulse battery testing more “real world”?

Many vapers feel you need to simulate the way we vape, using discharges of a couple to a few seconds long, in order to accurately predict which batteries will be the better performers for vaping. In this video I review the results of testing four different batteries with pulsed and continuous...

    Molicell P26a 18650’s

You’re saying that different cells placed in Bay 1 are always the one that test out at a lower voltage and/or capacity when recharged? The running myth about series-connected batteries is that the “top” battery, the one “closest” to the atomizer is the one stressed the most. Bay 1 would seem to...

    Molicell P26a 18650’s

I would hope that that everyone would want to learn what is really going on.:) Yes, one cell always drops in voltage before the other but that is because every cell is different. No electrochemical or physical reaction talk to bore you with. Both cells are, by definition, strained the exact...

    Difference in values?

Li-Ion batteries don’t need any burning in but one stored for a very, very long time (years) can build up an internal layer of reaction by-products that can affect performance. Cycling the battery can help get rid of some of that layer. Though that much of a difference in internal resistance...

Battery Basics For Vapers Ep4 – What are “rewrapped” Li-Ion Batteries?

You might have heard of the terms “rewrapped battery” or “rewrap”. What are these Li-Ion batteries and what do we have to look out for when using them?
