SS doesn't change its resistance too much with increasing temps (low TCR), just enough to be noticed on a mech tho.
Recently I've been tempted to try SS430 which sports an higher TCR, thus the effect should be amplified, but A) there's too much nickel in there for me, and B) I'm too lazy for trying yet another wire, I'm satisfied with 316L.
Glad you're liking it Pete

Man I'm concerned about inhaling micro fibers of that stuff and I've never even tried it

there was a lot of "research" (google, MSDS) and talk about it when we were first trying this stuff. This guy, curt1972, started experimenting with the stuff, and then I got on board for a while. Anyway, one thing is that the fiber/particle size is too large to be of concern in the lungs (according to the lit.). The other is that it doesn't tend to break down really. That↑ was a bit of an extreme build that really quirked it more than one normally would.

I used to love the stuff when my vape required more "wicking" than "holding".

see pg 2

I'll add this: back when we were trying this stuff it was Genesis, crappy tanks, clearos . . . SS mesh or silica (or fish tank sticks). Anymore, there are very few scenarios where this stuff brings anything to the table that isn't done better or differently. Once I tried cotton in a REO (first the REO, later the cotton), I didn't turn back. I'm no scientist, and no expert on health and safe stuff to inhale. I really don't see the need to use it anymore, and I don't.

You even get sort of an auto boost feature with it on a mech, for its resistance grows (moderately) with temperature. So you get a quick ramp up, followed by a mellower vape.

↑this sounds better than ↓this.

I'm stickin' w/ "earlier you". :pervy:

To me, it seems to kick a lot faster. I mean to say, the combination of thin wire gauge and "fat wire resistance" may be doing most of it; but it still kicks darn quick for a sub-.2Ω build on a single battery. And then, maybe it's mostly that I have a lot less hot wire mass in my atty; but it seems to keep a much more moderate temp zone than the "equivalent" in resistance wire.

I remember on the Reo forum where pdib did a bunch of modding. The circuit board door, modding the reo for better voltage drop which i believe brought the subohm kit. The Afc ring for reomizer

Also i mildly remember pdib and quite a few other people having a taste for monkey poo

I just mean that there are other members of the SS family which should push that effect further, like in fact SS430 (compared to 304 or 316)
How much so, I don't know in practice - but it should be much more

Have a look into the wire wizard of steamengine.org, they even plot nice graphs showing how much the resistance raises with temp for each wire type know to mankind :D

Note: there are crazies around playing this game with titanium wire.. on mechs.. no no..

PS: are you burning the midnight oil over there? It should be 3+ AM on your side of the pond..

Gorgeous, Tim!

Some day I'm going to build a reg'd squonker. Some day. It won't be as pretty as these bee shells, but some day I'll have one.

Doffy!!!!!!!!!...You're the man buddy!..and it was well worth the wait..it's stunning!..and the color combination is fabulous! and thank you thank you thank you for posting the vid!!..You know how much I wanted to see it in action:w00t:

I was a bit concerned in the beginning of the vid because I thought your fingers were too big for such a small hole..but apparently there is a certain angle for proper insertion...or possibly the small size of the hole is an optical illusion of some sort that Pete did on the mod.

I'm a crazy person as I love going to the dentist and floss and brush more than anyone would ever think of doing. This came about because a filling I got in 1987 failed and my dentist was worried that it might have decay hidden (it did) and was such a large filling the tooth might be cracked (it wasn't) but because it was such a large area to fix it would expose my root to sensitivity which it did. It's not bad though, I got the good tooth gene from my folks somehow. By the time my mom was 40 she already had six root canals. This was my first and only have four other fillings so far. Not bad for 46 years old...

I just hate dentists..I believe you have to be a heartless psychopath to earn your living this way...umm..any dentists in the room?
