So I finally grabbed me some 28gauge kanthal and started making coils yesterday.
First the evod, 4/3 wrap came out at 0.8-0.9 ohm.
Second the Protank 7/6 wrap ohm'd out at 1.2.
The original protank head was being difficult so used a spare evod head,
it was easier to work with. 2mm. coils with 3mm. cotton wicks.

They are both working well but am not 100% on safety so I'm asking any gurus
that may be out there. I am using AW IMR 18490's with a kick at 7 watts.

I know (i think) the batts are good for 10amps but can't find the amp limit
on the kick anywhere.

Questions...

1. Are these set-ups within safe norms. (wanna be 100%)
2. Any helpful hints/tips/advice is more than welcome.

I decided today that the extra charging and fiddling and overall hassle(or risk) isn't worth it to me.
The stock evod heads around 2-2.5ohm work pretty well.
At lower ohms the 1/2 a second shorter pull required to get my vape isn't a big difference.
And man the bases got hot quick.

The 28 gauge I think is better suited for true rebuildables and 30-32 gauge for the evods.YMMV.

Micro coils here I come!:vapor:

I'm rebuilding my ProTank with 6 wraps of 28 gauge Kanthal on 3.5mm wick. It measures at 0.8 ohms. At 2.9v my Provari can't handle it. But, my Lavatube at 3v can. This is working very well. I wish my Lavatube would go down to 2.8v. I get a slight burnt taste when the battery is new. But otherwise this combination is working very well. I'm reading here some comments about safety. Can you comment more? I don't understand the safety concerns.

I just did a rebuild on my Protank head last night since my Kanthal came in yesterday… I wasn’t really happy with the taste / flavor with the stock 2.5ohm coils.

I bought 32ga wire, 28ga wire, and .6mm Kanthal Ribbon which has about the same resistance as 30ga.

I used 3mm silica wick and folded it over so it was twice as thick. IT wicks well, and no need for those silly flavor wicks, no flooding…

The Ribbon Kanthal coil came out the best, measured at 1.2 ohms and vapes great. Problem it I wasn’t expecting the resistance to be so low, and some mods won’t fire the coil… I was hoping to hit a target of 1.5 to 1.8 ohms with the ribbon.

I will probably pick up some .5mm and .4mm Kanthal as well, as the working room in the Protank heads are very tight, and you don’t get much room for wraps when dealing with ribbon as its takes up a lot more surface area.

So you was able to use 28ga? I have some and was going to give it a try while waiting on some 32. So 6 wraps gave 1.2?
