1) SF CA vaping=smoking indoor ban rescheduled for 3/6.

2) MN vaping=smoking (indoor ban) legislation to be introduced.

3) BAT to launch large UK Vype ad campaign.

4) Consumer Reports "don't try vaping" junk spreads.

Also - Glantz public comment on FDA's "substantial equivalence" standard (not yet applied to e-juice, of course).

Hearing on SF's vaping=smoking ord. rescheduled for 3/6/14.

.ucsf.edu/two-more-news-reports-increased-calls-poison-control-centers-because-ecigs

Glantz picks up the "poison control center calls" meme. Where has he been, cub reporters have been actively covering this non-story for months? For what it may be worth, calls about PVs are vastly outnumbered by calls about NRT.

(Glantz's blog) http://www.tobacco
.ucsf.edu/fda-should-be-careful-about-granting-exemptions-substantial-equivalence-applications

Background: under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (which regulates all products derived from tobacco), a manufacturer need not submit a new A premarket application and a marketing authorization order if there is "substantial equivalence" between a new product and one with an existing marketing authorization order. What Glantz's public comment addresses is how the FDA is currently interpreting the phrase "substantial equivalence." If/when the FDA begins to regulate e-juice, this will obviously become an issue. Bottom line, the ANTZ are setting the stage to make it harderfor e-juice manufacturers to tweak their formulas, without going through a lengthier process for bringing them to market. For more on substantial equivalence, see: Demonstrating the Substantial Equivalence of a New Tobacco Product: Responses to Frequently Asked Questions and for the scope of FDA authority under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, see: Family Smoking Prevention And Tobacco Control Act

Last week's "Experts Predict End of Smoking" AP story reprinted. If you haven't read it yet, the mostly junk-free story cites vaping as one of the reasons why there will be many fewer analog smokers in the future. Also see CASAA call on MA: CASAA: Call to Action! Massachusetts E-Cigarette Usage Ban -- HB 3726 (formerly HB 3639) (UPDATED)

Summary of the junky Consumer Reports article in which C-U's resident ANTZ basically saysif FDA-approved cessation methods don't work for you, just keep on smoking analogs. This is the new hard edge of the ANTZ meme. Also see story out of Modesto CA below. Comments are accepted, this calls for them. IL has a simple minor sales ban in place, if you're aware of any pending legislation, please PM me.

Editorial with some junk supports vaping=smoking legislation but (in a magnanimous gesture) opposes an outright ban. As you may know, the neighboring town of Sleepy Eye passed a vaping=smoking indoor ban last week based on junk testimony from two local ALA rep.s. Manketo, another local town has also passed one. Story also notes that a local St. Sen. plans to introduce a statewide vaping=smoking indoor clean air act bill. MN is also the only US jurisdiction to tax e-juice, at the rate of 95% of the wholesale price.

Junk free article about the growth of the vaping industry, features comments by local vape shop owner. This appears to be written from scratch by one of those rare local reporters who does their homework.

Report on introduction of LA's SB 12, a simple minor sales ban. Contains irrelevant junk about poison control center calls. As far as I know, this is the only La. legislation that's ever been passed, or which is currently pending. Pls. PM me if you know better.

Hit job editorial full of junk. Both a clean air act vaping=smoking extension and a simple minor ban died recently in the st. leg.

Classic ANTZ hit job piece which parallels the Consumer Reports junk that's making the rounds. I believe this is the fifth or sixth clone of this story that I've seen in the last few days. Comments are accepted, this calls for them.
