So my bf and I are 100% without a doubt newbs to the vaping world. We went to the store to get a pack of smokes and as we were there my bf started looking at the e-cigs. We decided to give it a try and got 2 eGo T sets. As we left we laughed about how we went for smokes, left with e-cigs and no smokes for when the craving kicks in. Almost a full day went by before we both realized, hey, this is actually working so far! We went to our local head shop to look and the "fancy" vapes and ended up leaving with 2 Arctic tanks, an IPV D2 for my bf and an eVic VTC Mini for me.

As we left I felt as though we got sold, especially once I got home and Googled what we just bought and saw the prices online vs. what we just paid. Hell, what did we even buy? Why didn't he tell me I can't use the TC setting with the coils it came with? Why did he look at us crazy when we asked if that flavor came in 24mg nic? Why the hell can't I get to the damn menu screen? Watts, sub ohm, volts, amps? Ok bf, explain this one more time...

In these past few days there have been quite a few WTF moments, sore throats and lungs, hacking and coughing and TONS of reading. Reading, reading, reading and no cigarettes! My new dilemma is finding a juice that I like that doesn't gunk my coils. Damn you tasty delicious D'Oh Nuts! We're definitely not pros building our own coils but considering what we've learned so far, the fact we don't stink like ashtrays, we are starting to have a better sense of taste/smell already AND we haven't blown our asses off, yea, vaping is staying in our life!

*EDIT* 5 days and counting

howdy - and welcome! you are in the right place :)

feel free to ask any questions, odds are good someone here has had a similar experience and/ or can point you in the right direction (there really are no dumb questions when it comes to vaping - we all had to learn this stuff somewhere)

and most of all, congrats for putting down the stinksticks!

Watts, sub ohm, volts, amps?

Welcome!

Lets look at the basics of each one.

(w) Watts: the SI unit of power, equivalent to one joule per second, corresponding to the power in an electric circuit in which the potential difference is one volt and the current one ampere.

(Generally in vaping wattage is a measure of "power" the higher the number of watts the more power you are pumping through a coil)

Sub-ohm: Anything that is below the resistance of 1.0 ohm (0.9 ohm and below = sub-ohm)

(v) Volts: the SI unit of electromotive force, the difference of potential that would drive one ampere of current against one ohm resistance.

(A good example is any power source has a base "voltage" your typical 18650 battery cell has a max voltage of 4.2v. Another example is a Double-A battery they have a voltage of 1.5v fresh out of a pack)

Amps: a unit of electric current equal to a flow of one coulomb per second.
(Usually refers to the drain on a battery source)

To give you a basic use of of the above my unregulated box at a max voltage of 4.2 running a 0.4 ohm coil will fire at 44.1w and cause a drain of 10.5 amps on my batteries. (ohms law)

So glad to hear it.
As for juices that do not gunk up your coils.... Clearer juices are the ones that are less likely to gunk them up. The darker the juice, the more change of a gunked up coil. Also Thickness, higher VGcontent. As for all the other stuff, TC, and stuff like that. Play around with the Watts for a while... get in to that. You can grow in to the TC.

Now now, When you become a regular vaper you will notice that you had not been cheated. Because even with huge amount you paid it will be cheaper and healthier in a short time.

In the beginning you cough this is your lungs clean themselves (Remember when you are awake in the morning, you had coughed too? Because your lungs had tried to clean themselves now that no tarr is coming during your sleep.
However the throat sore may be because of your PG allergy keep using higher VG liquids.
Dont panic with new devices if you still keep ego t use them while you are learning about vaping.
Watch as much as videos about the devices you have learn how to's of cleaning, changing coils preparing new ones.
And have spare of everything.
No one can offer liquids because pleasure is personal. You like a liquid which I had hated and vice versa. Just try new ones :)

Welcome to the world of non smokers enjoy the health and we are here waiting your questions 7/24
Good luck and happy vapings

Welcome to the site.

You didn't get "sold" too bad. Every local shop I've been to charges 50-200% more than Internet prices. Too many people dipping their fingers into the profits. My favorite local vape shop has showed me their vendors price list, they pay more than Internet prices... It's pathetic in this area, one supplier that wants to make bank, so the shops have to charge a fortune to pay the bills.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the tips everyone! I have read a lot of these already, but I still love reading them because you can never learn too much.

As far a being sold, honestly I'm glad it worked out that way. It forced us to research and learn. Had we stuck with the ease of the eGo T it wouldn't have been nearly as fun and it probably wouldnt have lasted much past that first day.

the arctic is a great choice. it should have come with 2 coils. both of mine came with one nickel(temp control) and one kenthol (not temp control)
don't feel too bad about over paying, we've all done it. I don't mind paying a little extra to support my local shop but some things are crazy expensive. the arctic is 40 bucks at the shop and 20 online.
