Well now that I gotten through this thread it sounds like things are going well so I'll not offer any more advice but I will add a different perspective.

My mother smoked all through her pregnancy with me (it was 1962 after all) and I was born large and healthy. BUT I swear to you I was born addicted to nicotine. I can actually remember a time when I was four years old that I demanded to smoke. After a time my parents gave in and you can imagine what happened. It was awful. But the urge never went away until I could sneak my first smoke at age 13. It was like I had come home again and I've not been able to give it up since. I've been vap'ng since June and the plan is to get down to 0 nic and then give it up entirely.

I'm not blaming anyone - it was always my choice but something to keep in mind.

Congratulations on your pending miracle. :)

Not condoning vaping of any kind during pregnancy, but just a heads up. On most e-cig suppliers websites there is a disclaimer stating that even 0mg juices can contain trace amounts of nicotine. Being a DIYer myself this makes no sense to me. 0mg should be nothing more than PG, VG, and flavoring. I would suggest that if she must do it, spend a bit of money on supplies and mix your own. It's cheaper in the long run anyhow.

I'm sure some of you will bash her right off the bat for having a smoke or two while pregnant, and that's fine, I can accept that and am not proud of her for doing it although I can relate to her addiction. But if you were pregnant, or your wife was, and you had to choose between smoking an analog here or there, or having a cart of 0mg VG-based juice, which option would you take and for what reasoning?

I appreciate and value everyone's comments here, such a great wealth of information and great people!!

Anyone who bashes your wife is possibly a hypocrite since I would guess that many of them smoked while pregnant. My daughter is 20, and my son is 16. Although things have dramatically changed, I believe most of the hype about smoking and pregancy is exaggerated beyond belief. When I was pregnant with both of mine, my doctor said not to go over 8 cigs a day since that seemed to be what he called the "magic number" at which it was more likely that bad things would happen. I smoked four cigs a day. I have also heard many say that their doctors told them that stopping completely could actually cause more problems than smoking. I can see many reasons for that. If it were me, I would stick with the cigs but cut back dramatically to no more than four or five. Even though we know that vaping is tons better than smoking, I would not test that on an unborn baby. I did not have premature babies. I did not have low birth weight babies, and my kids are healthier than anyone else I know. Add to that the fact that I was 38 and 43 when my kids were born. Despite the hype about older moms having babies, I had one of the easiest pregnancies of anyone I know. Stressing over it is not a good idea.

I just recently has a baby (#3) and my doc told me that the stress of quitting (i had a really hard time) was also bad for the baby. She said I could use nic gum. I also was concerned about chemicals I use at work(foundry). My doc sent me to a geneticist, who could better investigate the chemicals I used and their effect on the fetus. Maybe your wife could talk to one about the stuff in your particular e juice? Hope that helps and congrats!
