maybe if you are just talking about how much nicotine is in one pack of unlit smokes compared to how much nic is in 1ml of 8mg juice...but you'll never for the full amount of nic out of that pack of smokes

True, but you arent getting 100% of the nicotine from vaping either. Our lungs aren't 100% efficient, which is why we can blow huge clouds of vapor, even after inhaling.

Without knowing the absorbsion differences between smoking and vaping, I think it's reasonable to assume they are similar (both being inhaled via a particles suspended in air)

I only smoked 12 or so a day.
I vape 8ml a day of 18mg/ml. juice.
The stats posted above say I am at:
  • 1ml of 18mg juice = 1.5 cigarettes
  • 8x1.5 =12 cigs
  • SO, I am just right on target from other calculations in this post.

  • BUT, the Governments are saying I actually I am now vaping the equivalent of over 8 PACKS A DAY!!!
  • Something is not right with their calculations or IF I went back to smoking I would have to smoke EVEN in my sleep to get 8 packs a day in.:banana::banana::banana::banana:

There are way to many variables to even answer this question.

Apart from how frugal or not your set-up is and wat settings and coils you use etc., vapor also isn't as easily absorbed by our lungs as smoke is.

The particles in smoke are way way smaller then in vapor and go in to your bloodstream much faster, even if you hold the vapor in for a few seconds you will only adsorb a relatively small amount of nicotine compared to smoke.

I also believe it will vary from person to person how much nicotine from vapor is absorbed in a certain amount of time.

So yeah, nice try EU. Now stop screwing us over until you did enough research to get a somewhat reliable baseline please.

I think the only way to answer this question is to have your blood sampled ...

Smoke 1 pack of cigarettes per day, and then have your blood sampled for nicotine at the end of the day.

Then vape a certain amount of nicotine for a day and again, have your blood sampled again for nicotine.

You can then find out how much Nic you need to vape in a day in order to have the same amount of nicotine in your blood by the end of the day.

Make sense ?

Robino1, that post goes much deeper into the issue than I did. When it comes down to knowing how they compare exactly, then it gets very complicated (varies based on the specific cigarette, the efficiency of your equipment, the efficiency of your power settings, the specific juice, the specific way you smoked/vape, the person's biology, etc.)

But I think what most people are looking for is a general ballpark. On average, there is 12mg of nicotine in a cigarette. Thus, if we are only looking at it from a high level, it seems reasonable to infer that a 12mg cig = 1ml of 12mg juice. Both contain the same amount of nicotine before consumption, and to me, that seems like a good benchmark that balances accuracy and simplicity.

Beyond that, good luck to anyone looking for more accuracy lol. You might be able to get a number that works in one very specific scenario, but not anything people could use as a general standard.

I think the main factor most are leaving out of the equation here is, this is for purposes of taxation.
The OP has said they are trying to equate ml/e-liquid to cigarettes and tax the e-liquid accordingly.
So, if 1ml of 8mg of nicotine is equal to a pack of 20 cigarettes, they are going to tax 1ml of 8mg nicotine the same a pack of 20 cigarettes.
They can do the math any way they please.

The Ohio governer tried to do the exact same there here last year, only they went by the the widely stated cig-alike manufacturers/sellers claim that 1 cig-alike, containing 1ml of e-liquid, is equal to 1 pack of 20 cigarettes... so the tax on each ml of eliquid would have been $1.60, which is the current state of Ohio cigarette tax per pack, making the tax on 30/ml eliquid $48.00. No mention was ever made on how much or little actual nicotine was in the e-liquid because that was never stated in the bill, so theoretically they could have taxed 0 nic e-liquid the same amount under that proposal.

Boils down to Control.
Set Max Nicotine level allowed in E-liquids.
Maximum tax for minimum Product transfer.

Black market increase in Value of Nicotine containing E-liquids

Maximum Fines for non-compliance

............and Racehorse wonders why I have 7 liters of Nicotine in the Freezer:rolleyes:

Not to do so would be like going on Vacation, hoping they will have cloths that fit once you arrive. I prepare and Pack ahead:ohmy:

It appears the European Union for reasons of taxation thinks that 1ml of 8mg of nicotine is equal to a pack of 20 cigarettes.

If 1ml of 8mg base was suddenly worth as much as the taxes on 1 pack of cigarettes, considering the amount of 100mg liquid nic I have stored at -10F I'd be a millionaire.

Any opinions of how accurate this is + or -.
The best research I have seen persuades me that the smoke from one cigarette exposes the smoker to about 1 mg of nic. I smoked 25 cigarettes a day so I was exposed to 25mg of nic. Cigarettes here in michigan were costing $6 a pack which is 30 cents per cigarette, 30 cents per mg of nic.

A one liter bottle of 100mg nic concentrate has 100,000 mg of nic, the same amount as the smoke from 5,000 packs of cigarettes. 5,000 packs of Michigan cigarettes cost $30,000. The one liter bottle of nic costs $50 (from myfreedomsmokes.com). In NY City 5,000 packs of cigarettes costs about $60,000.

I vape 7 ml X 10 mg nic = 70 mg of nic per day, about 3 times what I was smoking. I'm sure there is more nic in my system than when I was smoking but it seems to have no negative effect on me.

One more comparison. An ounce of pure gold costs about $1,000. An ounce of nicotine from Michigan cigarette smoke costs 28,000 mg X 30 cents = $8,400. An ounce of liquid nicotine from myfreedomsmokes costs $14.
