So I keep reading about the difference in taste using a carto tank. So I am going to give it a try, I have many clearos and like the ease of them but I just don't feel like I am getting the taste I should get.

first can you recommend a good quality tank that won't break the wallet so I can give it a shot to see how I like it.

secondly can you recommend cartons for it and how many holes need to be punched if I use mainly 50/50 juices.

thanks ahead of time

Hey Crocky! What type of batt are you putting the tank on? IBTanked is a good one but I went cheap for my first one & got the poly pro from valley vapes but these may be a little top heavy for an ego batt. They are both really good but it depends on how much you want to spend. Once you get the hang of priming I'm sure you'll fall in love like the rest of us.

Hopefully he will respond soon but check out Baditude's blogs on carto tanks. He's my go to for info & I use the priming method in his blog. His blogs are under the 'most popular' link. Sorry I suck at adding links. Oh & I've been using 2 holes for both my 50/50 & 70/30 juices buy I mostly vape 70/30 using boge cartos.

A smoktech DCT tank only runs around 10 bucks. That was my first carto tank, and I still use them although I now have more expensive models. There is a learning curve with carto tanks. The most important thing is to learn how to properly prime a cartomizer. If you don't prime it good enough, you will be disappointed. But once you get one going good, you'll probably want nothing else.

As mentioned, read Baditude's blog carto tanks. I have been referring to it. It is quite informative. I received my IBTanked tank, today. My cartomizers will arrive tomorrow and I see first hand what others have been raving about.

I hope that your first carto tank experience is a good and productive one . . . Enjoy.

Yep, I use these, and they work just fine. Just be careful when you're sliding the cartos into and out of the tank. Either end-cap could pop off, causing your juice to spill out (bottom o-ring), or flood your carto when you pop it back on (the top o-ring).

Like Baditude and many others, I suggest a tank-refilling tool. It fits into your cartomizer like any drip tip. It makes refilling much easier and protects your o-rings from wear and tear (cartomizers are metal and WILL damage o-rings over time).

If you want cheap to practice, I'd say go for a Smoktech DCT tank. DCT stands for Dual Coil Tank, but you don't have to use dual-coil cartomizers in them. In fact, I suggest single-coil cartomizers, but that's my personal taste.

Here is a link to what I use:

Tanks:
6 mL: VC-DC 'Colors' Tank w/ DC LR XL Cartomizer & Drip Tip (510, 6ml) - VaporCast
3 mL: 3ml VCDC Tank - VaporCast

Replacement Cartomizers (flanged, factory-punched with 2 holes):
2.0 ohm Dual Coil VC-DC Tank Replacement Cartomizer Double Hole (510/DC/LR/XL) - VaporCast

To answer your question, yes, these two holes should work fine with your 50/50 juice. Remember, if you use a carto punch tool to make a new hole or an existing hole bigger, you could very well deform the cartomizer and make it almost impossible to remove and/or push back into the tank... Be very careful and practice with dead cartomizers if you eventually want to go that route.

EDIT: Priming a carto can take up to forty drops, going N E S W into the polyfill, while rotating the carto, avoiding the center hole. Anything less I found can cause instant carto death and that nasty burning electronic taste.

I chose the pro DCT's as my first carto-tanks. The tank material won't melt or crack with the harsh juices like polycarbonate tanks, they are relatively cheap, and I like the frosted look. The cartos I got with them are single coil 2 ohm with one hole. I'm using ego batteries so that's why went with a lower ohm rating. With a variable voltage devise you could go with a higher ohm rating and get more life out your batteries. I'm vaping 50/50 juice from Mt Baker Vapor. They have worked very well, but it seems to me that one hole is just barely enough, it works, but I dry pull while blocking the air flow every once in awhile when it's feeling a bit dry. I'm not getting burnt taste just a little thinner vape. Once I dry pull and get a bubbles coming up inside the tank from the hole in the carto a few times I know the juice is getting into the carto again and the vape is great.

I have an order coming with some two hole cartos and curious to try those out with my 50/50 juice. I'm hoping it won't flood, but keep the cartos a little wetter more easily than having to dry pull. We'll see how that goes.

Read Baditudes blog, it's a great source of info. One thing I've been doing when priming my cartos is a combo of some things in Baditudes blog. I use the toothpick in the center hole of the carto, but I stretch a carto condom over the flanged end. This helps with no mess if any juice does run out the end, but it also makes an air bulb that you can slowly squeeze and release that will suck the juice down into the filler. I fill until a little juice runs out the carto hole and then put it in the tank. Works well so far.

Good luck, I hardly even look at my clearos anymore. I love these little tanks.

Here are the tanks I'm using. Pro DCTank Tube

I also got a little filling tool/funnel thing from them and it's worked nicely for me. Smoktech DCT Refill Funnel

I got two of those, and while they work just fine, they didn't (and still don't) snap into my cartos as well as the Slap Yo Mama. They do work, you just need to be a little careful popping them on. Maybe I got some funky ones. But they do work!

Not a genuine Slap Yo Mama, but honestly, you don't need the genuine Slap Yo Mama. This works just like a Slap Yo Mama.

Mine fits the cartos really well. The only thing I have to watch out for is not trying to fill too fast because if both holes in the bottom get covered with juice it can't let the air out and the juice in. It's a cheap little thing.

That Slap yo momma tool looks great and I'm sure works great, but it's more than a whole tank setup for the one tool. At least where I saw it. Guess I'm cheap. I use a drip tip that's the same size as the carto to put a carto into the tank. I had that already so I couldn't justify the cost. Maybe that will change, I'm still pretty new to this, and trying to stay on a self-imposed budget.

Very true. I find that when this happens, I have to tilt it a little, and if I didn't judge correctly how much juice I squeezed, it over-filled it. Still, these are neat little tools. Wish I had known about them before I ordered 12 blunt needle drip caps. Those things suck with higher VG liquids (once even popping off and wasting a half bottle of juice! I was so angry!)

One last thing I forgot to add about the Slap Yo Mama and the DCT Tank Refilling Tool... the DCT Tank Refilling tool will push down and the top of the funnel will keep it in place against the o-ring. With the Slap Yo Mama or it's generic versions (which work perfectly fine), you'll have to judge when to stop pushing your carto down. I usually push the mama clone until the little ball is right above the top o-ring. Go slow refilling it. Squeeze too fast and you'll wind up with juice all over your hands. Happened to me the first time I tried to use one and I got nauseous a few minutes later. Nausea passed, but I was ticked about losing juice.

Off the cuff: how much juice have we lost learning these things? I could fill a 30 mL bottle, I bet...

My first tank was a cartomator from vaperfexion. I have had for over 4 months and I haven't had a single problem with it. I liked it so much I got a second one. I think they were like 20 bucks a piece. For an extra couple of bucks you can add a "fill port." It's a little hole they drill in the side that a screw fits into to close it, you can use needles or need capped juice bottles to fill them, its actually really easy that way but the screw is a little weird.
I always punch two holes in mine, a little closer to the bottom so no matter what level the juice is it still sucks it up.
There are a lot of tanks out there and there are a lot that I want, but I'm content with the ones I have now. I always avoid pyrex because I drop my provari at least once a day (still holding up fine by the way).
