Carto Self Punched Hole Visual Reference

I have been using a DCT with pre-punched cartomizer for the past couple of weeks until I read here that it's better to enlarge the factory drilled hole or add another hole by punching. I added one using a multitool (gotta love them Leathermans) at the bottom on the opposite side of the factory drilled one. I know some do it by drilling using a 1/16 bit but I can't visualize how big 1/16 is nor do I have a drill to use.

So I am hoping if you guys can post a photo of your self punched carto for visual comparison. Here are photos of mine...

What did you use to punch the hole?
I need to do that with my Smoktech cartos.

I don't have a picture at the moment but I just punched my first carto a couple days ago and it looks very similar to yours. I used the big daddy vapor carto punch.

Someone suggested I buy this tool, and I just ordered one.
I saw a video on their website, it's easy to do.

I usually make my holes about this size and use two for more PG based juices 50% and up PG. I will enlarge the holes and make up to 4 depending how much VG is in the juice.


I use a saddle valve to punch my holes. Its a little fiddly but gets the job done great with a little practice. I picked it up at a local hardware store in the plumbing aisle for less than $10.

i'm a jeweler and use a carbide center punch to punch holes in cartos. works perfectly every time. they're only about $1 and who doesn't have a hammer?

I'm very glad to see this thread! I came here with a question about punching cartos... so it is literally punching and not drilling? That doesn't damage the coils? I have pre-punched/drilled but it's only one hole and I don't think it's adequate. It's also a bit high up imho. The prefab hole is 1/3 the way up...isn't that a bit high? I've been keeping the juice in the tank no lower than the level of the hole. Is it OK to let it go lower than the hole?

Got a Grainger near you? go there a get a Supco bpv-31, $4.05 with tax here in NY. makes a very nice hole and will work with flanged cartos. it's a one time use tool but I got 10 cartos punch with it and the point looks brand new, time will tell..
