After I started to get my sense of smell back I went through my office and literally washed it. Washed the walls. Steam cleaned the carpet....like 9 times. Washed down the desk and ceiling fan (woah....it's supposed to be white). Washed...down...everything. And the rags I was using...I don't even want to describe it but for any of you who have kids....ya. My son is still in pull-ups. About that bad. But the best thing after I started to get my sense of smell back...smelling "outside". Was just getting out of my friend/coworkers brand new Honda Ridgeline with leather interior after lunch...man that thing smells great...and the first breath I took is when it hit me. "OUTSIDE"...I thought it was just another childhood memory. No. It was real. It was awesome!

My sense of smell has gone crazy since I quit. I knew I had no sense of smell while smoking but it is ridiculous. lol you think your dog stinks? Try changing a poopie diaper with this new sense of smell.

I too can't stand the smell of car exhaust. It is almost gagging for me at this point. I'm sure I'll get used to it but it is intense.

My mom is still smoking (I've tried to convince her about ecigs but she is just old fashioned... Anyway she came over to my house today and she reeked! I had to burn one of those scented candles when she left. I'm not going to be one of those people that gets all haughty about smoking. It's just embarrassing that I used to smell like that all the time!

I picked up my daughter's friend to take them skating the other night and her friend got in the truck and I was immediately taken by how much she smelled like smoke. I later asked my daughter, who is only 12, if her friends are smoking because, hey, I'm a concerned mom. She said "no, Nicole's mom and dad smoke but they smoke outside." What? They smoke OUTSIDE and I can smell it on their kid. Wow, now I feel ashamed of how my kids have smelled all these years, I thought smoking outside was good enough but it's not, the smell still gets everywhere, and on everyone! My twins are in kindergarten and a couple weeks ago was "Say no to drugs" week so they were learning about drugs, including cigs, and all the kids in the class started saying whether or not their parents smoke and one of my twins jumped up and yelled "My mommy used to smoke but now she vapes!" LOL I wonder what the teacher thought of that!?!

I was thankful that the only foul odor in my house that has come around since my smell started to return is that my son's room STINKS. I've always been .... retentive about the dogs, so no smells from them, but holy cow do teenagers stink. 2 of my cars are only about a year old and the other only has about 10k miles(but it's 6 years old) and I never smoke in them so they don't smell much different except the leather in one of them smells funny to me, although now it's starting to smell like cinnamon lol.

I have noticed walking through work that some people are in dire need of some proper hygiene. People that I never noticed smelling that horrible before and it has been cold lately so it's not the weather. I want to start leaving febreze and bars of soap in their cubes to give a hint lol.

yup " teenage boy sweat " is beyond disgusting & paint ball hits make it 10x's worse ... I have changed most of our soap products, from shower stuff to laundry soap, everything was/is just yucky . Some of the cleaning stuff I was using smells like "perm solution" to me now, weird huh ?

And just plain ole' oklahoma red dirt is really buggin me too. And everything seems to be covered in it  a lot of these buggy smells seem to get "stuck" in my throat & nose now ...& gack!!! room fresheners are the worst.... cleaning seems to be the only way to get rid of them, that and saline nose spray !!

I have discovered that if you vape really heavy vanilla/caramel type juice & stay fairly saturated in it, life is a little less smelly

Ok y'all have been talking about the downsides of recovered smell, but what about...

Taste - Discovering holy heck McDonalds way over-salts their fries
Taste - reducing your salt intake and not caring
Smell - The smell of perfume, shampoos, and for that matter freshly bathed puppies
Smell - Flowers and not with your nose touching the flower
Smell - Pine, Autumn and the great outdoors
Smell - Your favorite food

and probably the best....

Smell - Being able to smell tobacco smoke like any other non smoker out there

I will absolutely take the bad (I haven't cleaned my bathroom so much as in the last month) with the good any day!

It was like take the Mute off my smell - Thanks to the ECF for helping that happen!!

You have no idea what you're in for...LOL!
Are you people aware that it takes over a year for your sense of smell to completely come back when you quit smoking?
Twenty years ago I quit smoking for 3 years and I couldn't believe what it was like after the first year. Trust me, you'll stand next to a smoker and you'll think you are in a burnt-out building--it smells that bad. You'll say to yourself, "Oh my god, is THAT how I used to smell?!!!"
And don't be surprised in the summer when you have to take three showers a day because you can't stand your own body odor.

I am not aware how long it takes for one's sense of smell to return, but I did notice that after three days the nasty smoke residue stopped coming out of my nose (when I blew my nose) and my sense of smell became sharper.

One thing surprised me -- when I person who smokes walks by me now, a person who is not smoking at the moment, I can smell the cigarette smoke smell from their clothes as they pass!

My son smells! He takes a shower every morning, but that 16-year-old smell fills the car when I pick him up from drivers ed. He tells me he doesn't, but WOW, yes he does.

The worst thing is my husband's morning cigarette. I've actually had to reschedule my entire morning routine so that I am in the shower with the exhaust fan on while he's enjoying his smoke in the same bathroom (yuck) so when I get out of the shower the smell has dissipated somewhat.
